Description

DOMAINE TECHNIQUETECHNICAL AREA

The present invention relates generally to a resonator mounted in a housing, and more particularly to the incorporation into this housing of additional electronic components. Such resonators are used in many fields and more particularly in the fields of watchmaking and telephony.

ARRIERE-PLAN TECHNOLOGIQUEBACKGROUND

It is known in the prior art to use a tuning fork crystal resonator associated with an oscillator to form a time base. In order to always reduce the space occupied by such a time base with a view, for example, of its integration into a portable electronic device, it is known to mount said diaphragm quartz resonator and the integrated circuit comprising the oscillator in the same case.

Although these prior solutions make it possible to reduce the volume occupied by the time base, it has been shown more particularly in the field of watchmaking that the available space remained insufficient to produce a small timepiece. Indeed, the electronic watches comprise a number of additional electronic elements requiring a second integrated circuit external to that of the oscillator incorporated in the housing of the piezoelectric resonator. The need to have two integrated circuits and therefore two substrates or equivalent to support these integrated circuits results in a significant occupation of the space available in the watch, which requires the volume of the latter to be excessive and therefore undesirable for reasons obvious aesthetics.

In particular the document FR2176946 (also corresponding to US 3,969,640 ) describes a package for microresonator. It also contains a microcircuit placed under the microresonator. Conductors for receiving an external signal are placed on an outer surface in contact with the package.

RESUME DE L'INVENTIONSUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

One of the main aims of the present invention is to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks. For this purpose, the present invention relates to an electronic watch according to claim 1. Indeed, an electronic watch with display analog includes a motor for driving the analog display, for example hands, so as to display a time information provided by the time base and transmitted to the motor by means of control of the latter. Therefore, these control means of the electric motor of the watch are in the context of the present invention advantageously integrated on the same circuit as the oscillator in the housing of the resonator. Such a solution also has the advantage of reducing the length of the connections between the electronic elements of the watch and thus reduces the sensitivity of the oscillator to the external disturbances. This reduction of disturbances thus makes it possible to work at high impedance, more sensitive to these disturbances, and thus to reduce the general consumption of the electronic circuits of the watch while preserving an immunity to acceptable disturbances. Advantageous embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims.

DESCRIPTION DETAILLEE DE L'INVENTIONDETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

According to a first embodiment of the invention shown schematically on the figure 1 the invention relates to an electronic watch comprising a time base formed by a resonator, for example a piezoelectric resonator, such as a quartz resonator 1, or a silicon resonator of the MEMS type connected to the terminals of an oscillator 2 whose output is connected to a frequency divider circuit 3 to obtain the desired operating frequency for the watch so as to indicate the exact time. The output of the frequency divider circuit 3 is connected to a control circuit 4 of an electric motor 5 for driving the wheels, not shown here, rotating the analog display means, such as needles 6 for providing the indication of the time, ie hours, minutes and possibly seconds. For example, it is possible to use, for example, a stepping motor, also called bipolar, formed of a magnetized rotor, a stator with high magnetic permeability for looping the magnetic circuit and at least one coil having the function, when it is energized, to create a magnetic field in the stator which is thus transformed into a magnet whose polarity depends on the direction of the current in the coil. Thus the control circuit 4 of the motor provides a current flowing in the coil. The motor is controlled by a succession of positive and negative pulses spaced from power failure. However, we can of course use other types of motor, such as a two-phase stepper motor to obtain a bidirectional motor for setting the time of the clock in the forward and reverse directions.

Advantageously, as shown on the figure 1 , the oscillator 2, the frequency divider circuit 3 and the control circuit 4 of the electric motor are all integrated on a single integrated circuit 7 in order to save the space occupied by the electronic elements of the watch as well as to reduce the electromagnetic disturbances on these electronic elements due in large part to the length of the wired connections between elements. Note that this reduces the number of external connections to four only instead of eight in normal times. Indeed, it is normally provided two connection terminals for the excitation of the resonator, two others for the connection with the integrated circuit, two others for the power supply of the integrated circuit and finally two for the control of the motor. Here only four terminals are needed externally on the housing, the two power terminals of the integrated circuit and the two connection terminals of the integrated circuit which also serve as control terminals of the motor. The two excitation terminals between the resonator and the integrated circuit are arranged only internally of the housing. Nevertheless, it will be possible to use several integrated circuits arranged next to each other without however fully benefiting from the aforementioned advantages. The integrated circuit 7 is powered by a power source 8 of the watch.

The main idea here is to further reduce the space occupied by the electronic elements of the watch. For this, the integrated circuit 7, possibly the integrated circuits, is cleverly arranged in the same housing 9 already used for fitting the piezoelectric resonator 1 inside the watch case. The arrangement of the integrated circuit 7 in the housing 9 of the resonator allows no only to optimize the space occupied by all these elements inside the watch case, but also increases the protection of the integrated circuits vis-à-vis external disturbances possible through the very short connection paths between the various elements inside the housing 9 of the resonator. An example of arrangement of these elements inside the housing 9 of the resonator is given in connection with the Figures 2 and 3 .

The numerical references of the elements common to Figures 1, 2 and 3 are the same. The figure 2 is a top view of the housing 9 containing the piezoelectric resonator 1 and an integrated circuit 7 comprising the electronic elements of the watch. It will be noted that on this figure 2 , the housing is generally parallelepiped-shaped ceramic comprising a main part with a bottom and sides and a lid, not shown, providing a hermetic closure of the housing 9 for example by vacuum welding or any other suitable means to obtain a hermetic assembly . It should be noted that advantageously the cover is provided in glass so as to make it possible to carry out once the housing hermetically closed precise laser adjustment of the frequency of the resonator, which has the advantage of avoiding the difficult functions to implement inhibiting or terminating the oscillator conventionally provided before the closure of the housing to adjust the frequency of the resonator.

As we can see on this figure 2 , the piezoelectric resonator 1 and the integrated circuit 7 are mounted in the main part of the housing. The resonator is preferably a tuning-fork quartz resonator whose base 11 and vibrating arms comprise metallizations which form two groups of electrodes 12 and 13 which make it possible to subject them to electric fields in order to make them vibrate. The connections between the resonator 1 and the integrated circuit 7, are preferably made by means of holes 22 formed in the rungs 17 and filled with a conductive adhesive, or any other suitable conductive material, providing the connection with conductive tracks.

Considering again the figure 2 Under the housing 9 there are four connection terminals 14 and 15 connected on the one hand with the outside of the housing and on the other with the inside of the housing. Inside the housing these four connection terminals are connected to the integrated circuit 7. Outside the housing, the two connection terminals 14 are connected to the power source, shown in FIG. figure 1 , to allow power to the integrated circuit 7, and the other two connection terminals 15 are connected to the terminals of the coil of the electric motor to provide positive and negative electrical pulses. Note that the proposed connections are only as a non-limitative example, and that of the same as an alternative, it suffices that two terminals among the four terminals 14 and 15 are connected to the power source on the one hand, and that the other two remaining terminals are connected to the motor coil of other go. The use of these four connection terminals 14 and 15 to perform on the one hand the power supply of the integrated circuit, and on the other hand, the control of the motor through the motor control circuit integrated in the integrated circuit 7 provides a simple and small solution through the use of a single housing 9 including the time base and the motor control circuit, and effective as robust to the various electromagnetic disturbances.

The figure 3 is a view in median and longitudinal section according to the AA section of the figure 2 . As is visible on this figure 3 , the assembly of the resonator 1 is carried out by welding or gluing with a conductive adhesive the connection pads of the two groups of electrodes 12 and 13 located on the base of the resonator with corresponding conductive pads 16 provided on rungs 17 of the bottom of the housing 9 allowing the positioning of the resonator 1 above the integrated circuit 7 arranged in turn in the bottom of the housing 9. The connection between the connection pads located on the base of the resonator 1 and the integrated circuit 7 to perform the excitation electrodes and ensure the vibration of the resonator can be done as already mentioned in relation to the figure 2 through the conductive pads 16 connected to holes 22 formed in the rungs 17 and filled with a suitable conductive material, connected to the conductive tracks 23 (see FIG. figure 2 ) These connection means (16, 22, 23) have the advantage of being on the one hand very short and on the other hand reaching the bottom surface of the integrated circuit 7 , which is the one that receives all the connections. It should be noted, however, that other suitable solutions may be envisaged by those skilled in the art.

The connection between the integrated circuit and the outside of the housing can be performed as shown on the Figures 2 and 3 . Indeed, in this example, there are provided connection pads 18 advantageously located under the integrated circuit 7 connected to the connection terminals 14 and 15 via tracks or conductive pads 19 (see figure 2 ) and holes 20 passing through the bottom of the housing 9 and filled with a conductive adhesive 21 or other suitable conductive material. These holes being located opposite the connection terminals 14 and 15, the conductive adhesive provides the electrical connection with the inside of the housing.

The figure 4 represents a particularly advantageous embodiment according to the present invention. As in the previous embodiment, the connection between the connection terminals MOT1 and MOT2 of the housing 9 is provided, corresponding to the output terminals of the motor control circuit, and the motor coil to allow the transmission of positive and negative electrical pulses via either one of the connection terminals, which ensures the proper the hands and therefore the time indication for the watch. Moreover, in this advantageous mode, it is furthermore possible to connect one of the connection terminals, for example MOT1 enabling the positive pulse transmission, to a switch actuated by an external control member of the watch. Actuation of this switch blocks motor control and thus interrupts the time indication. This interruption is necessary to allow the delivery on time of the watch. Preferably, the external control member used is the crown rod. Thus, as for a mechanical watch, the user has only to pull the crown rod from the depressed position 1 to the pulled position 2 to interrupt the time indicating mechanism, the switch passing from its position open (position 1) to its closed position (position 2). One of the advantages is that when the crown is pulled out, the switch is then conductive and the motor pitches are stopped which makes it possible to share the connection terminal MOT1 without difficulty and to further reduce the connections. Insofar as the two functions, motor control on the one hand, and engine stop on the other hand, exclude time. For this purpose, it is possible to provide a resistance on the terminal side of the switch connected to a reference potential in order to avoid the collision between the two functions or to manage the collisions in the integrated circuit, which avoids the use of the aforementioned resistance. Alternatively, the control member may be a push button or other two-position mechanism easily actuated by the user of the watch.
