Abstract

An electric cleaner constructed from a communication tube (1) where an airflow path communicating with a suction opening (4) for sucking dust is formed and from a cleaner body (3) having a communication tube installation section (2) to which the communication tube is attached, wherein a strain gage (22) is applied to the floor surface side of the communication tube installation section (2). The strain gage is connected to one side of a resistance bridge circuit (34). Operation of the communication tube (1) in cleaning applies tensile force to the strain gage (22) to produce an output in the resistance bridge circuit. After the output is amplified, the result is differentiated by a capacitor (37), and the differentiated voltage signal is compared with a threshold voltage by a comparator (39). A traveling motor (15) is driven only in a period in which the voltage signal exceeds the threshold voltage.
