Definitions

  • the invention relates to an arrangement for the maintenance of a cartridge for an inkjet printer, in particular for filling or cleaning of such a cartridge.
  • An object of the invention is to provide an alternative arrangement for maintaining a cartridge for an ink jet printer, in particular for filling or cleaning such a cartridge, which allows a simple and clean maintenance operation.
  • a sealing element abuts against the nozzle plate and includes all nozzle rows.
  • An arrangement for maintaining a cartridge for an ink jet printer, in particular for filling or cleaning such a cartridge, the cartridge having a printhead with a nozzle plate on which a plurality of at least two rows of nozzles are arranged comprises a holder for holding the cartridge in a fixing position , and a seal element fixed or fixable on the holder, which has at least one passage for a liquid or gaseous fluid, wherein the sealing element in the fixing position is applied to the nozzle plate such that a fluid flow generated in the passage flows through only a part of the nozzle rows.
  • the inventive arrangement creates a possibility, in particular the filling of a cartridge with ink directly and in a selective manner via the nozzles of the nozzle plate and thus make without bringing a hole in the ink reservoir tank.
  • the filling of other storage tanks and thus undesired mixing of ink can be avoided as a result of the selective access to one or more individual rows of nozzles made possible by the sealing element according to the invention.
  • the invention relates to a method for filling a cartridge for an inkjet printer according to the features of independent claim 10.
  • a method for filling a cartridge for an inkjet printer according to the features of independent claim 10.
  • an inventive arrangement 1 comprises a holder 18 having a bottom portion 19 and a rear wall 20 which are interconnected by lateral cheeks 21 and 22.
  • a holder 18 In the holder 18 is an in Fig. 1
  • sealing element 45 In the disassembled state shown sealing element 45 in a designated for this purpose on the holder 18 receptacle 23 can be fixed.
  • the holder 18 is used according to Fig. 2 for receiving a cartridge 60 in a fixing position.
  • the sealing element 45 is, as explained in more detail below, in the fixing position on the nozzle plate of the cartridge 60 at.
  • the bottom part 19 on the outside (ie on the surface facing away from the receptacle 23) on an applicator 50 which according to the embodiment is integral with the bottom part 19 and the holder 18 (eg as an injection molded part), has a substantially cylindrical geometry and a passage 50A running in the longitudinal direction of the applicator, which extends through the bottom part 19 and merges into a nozzle-shaped extension 51.
  • the applicator 50 is used to attach a syringe (not shown) and has - preferably for releasable connection with the same - as in Fig. 2 indicated end one or more collar-like circumferential Sections on which the applicator 50 with the syringe releasably (eg, bayonet-like) can be connected.
  • the sealing element 45 has a substantially cuboid base body made of a rubber-elastic material, according to FIG Fig. 1 in the embodiment, three transverse to the position of the rear wall arranged sealing lips 46 are formed protruding.
  • the position and extent of these sealing lips 46 is adapted to the position of the rows of nozzles of the male cartridge 60 such that a respective sealing lip 46 is assigned to a part of the nozzle rows of the cartridge 60, wherein the respective sealing lip 46 with inserted and locked cartridge, the entire (n) surrounds associated nozzle row (s) apron-like.
  • the sealing element 45 may be formed differently and fitting.
  • the cartridge 60 is a color cartridge having a plurality of storage tanks for the respective colors
  • the parts of the rows of nozzles which are circumscribed by different sealing lips 46 are preferably respectively assigned to different storage tanks.
  • the same type of holder can be adapted by using differently designed sealing elements 45.
  • the block-shaped main body has a passage 47 for each area enclosed by a sealing lip 46, wherein one of these passages 47 extends to the passage of the applicator 50 or continues in it, so that the area enclosed by this sealing lip 46 and thus the Nozzles of the associated nozzle row can be acted upon with fluid (eg ink) via an injection device attached to the applicator 50, or fluid (ink, cleaning fluid or air) can be sucked out.
  • fluid eg ink
  • fluid e.g ink
  • fluid e.g., cyan, yellow, and magenta
  • a conventional syringe can be used as injection device.
  • the injector or the suction device for preventing an excessive inflow rate of the ink and the protection of the nozzle has means to prevent an excessive increase in the flow rate of the fluid in the passage 47 and to inject the fluid with increased precision ,
  • the injection device having a syringe with a piston movably guided in a housing and an actuating device for the piston, by means of which a defined fluid flow in the passage is adjustable.
  • a syringe via a threaded spindle or movement screw can be carried out, wherein the guided on the thread of the threaded spindle nut is connected as a driver with the movable piston of the syringe, so that the actuation of the syringe required translational or linear movement of the piston resulting from a rotational movement and therefore can be operated with a specified by the thread, increased accuracy.
  • the actuator can act on multiple syringes simultaneously, so that multiple chambers can be filled simultaneously with different inks.
  • a filling or cleaning using a syringe with 1 ml capacity can still be done manually without actuator.
  • the pressure applied to the nozzles (which multiplies according to the ratio between the syringe plunger area and the nozzle area) is quickly so high when handled manually that destruction of the nozzle structures occurs.
  • Non-destructive refilling with a 10 ml syringe typically takes several minutes (eg 6 minutes). Such a slow piston actuation is difficult to carry out manually, so that in this case an actuator should be taken to the rescue.
  • nozzle-shaped extensions 52, 53 are also shown.
  • these nozzle-shaped extensions 52, 53 can be assigned corresponding applicators 50 on the outside, so that one of the two of the remaining ones is connected via the nozzle-shaped projections 52, 53 Sealing lips 46 of the seal 45 enclosed areas - and thus the nozzles of the associated nozzle row or the associated color tank - can be acted upon with ink.
  • one and the same holder 18 can be used to refill all three color tanks of a color cartridge.
  • the applicator is then arranged at a different staggered position (ie assigned to a respective other extension 51, 52 or 53), wherein preferably each of these holders is characterized by a corresponding color tank which can be filled with it for convenient handling Color mark is provided. Accordingly, in the in Fig. 3 shown holder 18 'of the applicator 50' associated with the middle extension 52, etc.
  • the receptacle 23 for the sealing member 45 may be undercut dovetail to fix the rubber-elastic, deformable sealing element 45 by snapping and with the aid of ribs 25 immovable.
  • the ribs 26 and 27 also prevent outward movement of the inserted cartridge.
  • the attachment of the cartridge is carried out essentially by a locking device in the manner of a pawl 30, which is arranged on the upper part 31 of the rear wall 20.
  • the upper part 31 is arched approximately in a quarter circle inwards in order to at least partially overlap the inserted cartridge.
  • the part 31 terminates in a handle 32, which makes it possible to elastically deform the part 31 in the direction of the rear wall 20 and thus facilitate the release of the pawl 30.
  • the elastic deformation is assisted in particular by two slots 33 and 34 which separate the part 31 from the cheeks 21 and 22.
  • U-shaped apertures 35 and 36 are arranged, the legs 37 and 38 and 39 and 40 of the rear wall 20 and are arranged parallel to the bottom part 19.
  • the area lying between the legs 37 and 38 or 39 and 40 is obliquely deformed inwards and thus forms leaf springs 41 and 42.
  • Spacer ribs 43 on the rear wall 20 are used to create the cartridge.
  • Recesses 44 on the spacer ribs 43 correspond to the pivoting radius of the print head or the cartridge containing the printhead, which eventually contacts the leaf springs 41 and 42 when swung in, with their inwardly directed bevel serving as an insertion bevel. With increasing pivot angle, the leaf springs 41 and 42 are then increasingly deformed until the cartridge finally engages. The cartridge is then centered on the one hand by the detent and the ribs 26 and 27 and positively set and secured in the transverse direction by the tension of the leaf springs 41 and 42 frictionally against displacement by shock or vibration, so that a reliable sealing of the sealing lips against the rows of nozzles and an exact centering of the rows of nozzles is ensured.
