Description

Description A COOKING APPLIANCE
[001] This invention relates to a cooking appliance wherein an effective air circulation is provided for cooling the door.
[002] When cooking appliances, for example ovens, are operating, the temperature of the cooking chamber is substantially higher than the ambient temperature of the medium where the cooking appliance stands. All the walls of the cooking appliance as well as the door get hot due to the temperature of the cooking chamber. This temperature is quite high especially in "pyrolytic" type cooking appliances. Contacting any part of the door will result in a user injury. The external surface of the cooking appliance door should be below a certain temperature which is specified in the international standards in order to avoid this type of mishaps. Various designs have been developed to reduce the thermal loss and to keep the temperature of the cooking appliance door below a certain value. The door comprises one or more intermediate panels interposed between the outer panel and the inner panel which is adjacent with the cooking chamber, in order to lower the temperature of the outer panel which is adjacent with the immediate vicinity. The ambient air drawn from the outer medium is circulated within the inner, outer and intermediate panels and returned back to the outside environment and thus cooling of the cooking appliance door is achieved.
[003] In the state of the art European Patent Applications no.s EP330727 and EP549933, the employment of an embodiment for cooling the door is explained. In this embodiment, the air that is drawn from the environment into the interspace of the inner and outer panels of the door through a port formed on the door, is sucked in by means of a fan located in a duct comprised of two sections separated into a suction duct and an exhaustion duct at the upper part of the body, flows into the suction duct and the air sucked in by the fan is transferred to the exhaust duct and expelled to the outside environment through the outlet of the exhaust duct.
[004] In the state of the art European Patent Application no. EP1022517, the air between the outer and inner panels of the door is drawn into the intake duct via an opening on the door and a sealing element placed at the intake duct air inlet. In this manner the air drawn into the intake duct and the air exhausted from the exhaust duct do not mix.
[005] In the state of the art German Patent Application no. DE 10047016, an embodiment designed for cooling the door and the door handle is described. In this embodiment the door handle is assembled on the door so that it does not block the circulation of air between the inner and outer panels of the door and the air between the panels is led into the suction duct through a hole on the door handle and expelled to the outside environment from the exhaust duct via the upper surface of the door handle. [006] The object of the present invention is to design a cooking appliance in which the air flowing through the door of the cooking appliance is circulated through the door and the suction duct, and through the exhaust duct and the suction duct without leakage, resulting in an improved air circulation and an enhanced esthetic appearance.
[007] The cooking appliance designed to fulfill the object of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:

[015] The cooking appliance (1) of the present invention comprises a body (3), a panel (20) preferably fixed on the body (3) where the control units for controlling are situated, a cooking chamber (2) inside which items to be cooked are placed, a door (4) separating the outside environment from the cooking chamber (2) and allowing access to the cooking chamber (2) by the user, one or more hinges which provide the assembly of the door (4) on the cooking appliance (1) and allow for its movement, an insulation cavity (21) situated between the body (3) and the cooking chamber (2), increasing thermal insulation from the outside environment, a fan (8) situated in the insulation cavity (21) especially between the body (3) and the top wall of the cooking chamber (2) for circulating the air around the cooking chamber (2), a suction duct (9) having an inlet (11) for intaking the air sucked from the door (4) or the outside environment, where the sucked air flows, an exhaust duct (10) having an outlet (12) through which the air flowing through the suction duct (9) outflows to the outside environment, a separator (13) which separates the insulation cavity (21) into two as suction duct (9) and exhaust duct (10), and an intermediate component (14) positioned between the panel (20) and the cooking chamber (2), coinciding to the inlet (11) of the suction duct (9) and the outlet (12) of the exhaust duct (10), fixed on the separator (13) facilitating the attachment of the separator (13) structurally more rigid, keeping the distance fixed between the inlet (11) and the outlet (12) and thus the distance between the suction duct (9) and the exhaust duct (10) and preventing the mixing of the air entering the suction duct (9) from the air outflowing through the exhaust duct (10), yielding an effective air circulation preferably without using any sealing elements. (Figure 1)
[016] The intermediate component (14) comprises one or more suction openings (15) which by coinciding the inlet (11) lets the air flow into the suction duct (9), one or more exhaust openings (16) which by coinciding the outlet (12) help the air flowing through the suction duct (9) passing through the exhaust duct (10) to be expelled to the outside environment, a recess (17) situated between the suction opening (15) and the exhaust opening (16) where the tip of the separator (13) is inserted to be fixed, and an extension (22) situated between the suction opening (15) and the exhaust opening (16) preferably being a continuation of the recess (17) extending to the outside environment, preventing the air entering into the suction duct (9) to be mixed with the air expelled from the exhaust duct (10) (Figure 2 and 3)
[017] The length of the extension (22) is long enough to prevent the air entering into the suction duct (9) mixing with the air expelled from the exhaust duct (10) and is dimensioned to cover partially or entirely the door (4) preferably when the door (4) is closed. Consequently when the door (4) is closed, the air entering through the suction opening (15), preferably situated under the recess (17), into the suction duct (9) is prevented to be mixed with the air which is expelled from the exhaust opening (16). [018] In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the separator (13) comprises a barrier (23) at its tip to be inserted into the recess (17) shaped in such a way that it does not prevent the flow of air in the suction and exhaust ducts (9 and 10). The recess (17) and the barrier (23) supporting with one another, enable the fixing of the separator (13) to the intermediate component (14) in a leak-proof manner by contacting in more than one point. The separator (13) is fixed on the intermediate component (14) by snap- fitting method to increase leak-proofing.
[019] The door (4) comprises an outer panel (5) forming the surface in contact with the outside environment, made of one or more transparent materials preferably glass, allowing the user to view the interior of the cooking chamber (2) even when it is closed, an inner panel (6) positioned facing the outer panel (5), forming the surface in contact with the cooking chamber (2), one or more intermediate panels (7) preferably interposed between the inner panel (6) and the outer panel (5) and one or more door inlet openings (18) for the entrance of ambient air into the door (4), one or more door outlet openings (19) which allow to expel the air after being circulated through the outer, intermediate and inner panels (5, 6 and 7).
[020] In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the air that will be taken into the door (4) from the outside environment which is comparably cooler than the cooking chamber (2) flows in through the door inlet opening (18) into the inner space of the outer, intermediate, inner panels (5, 6 and 7), the cooler air is heated by the heat transfer effected with especially the outer panel (5) while circulating within these panels (5, 6 and 7), thus cooling the outer panel (5). The air circulating between the panels (5, 6 and 7) passes through the door outlet opening (19) which coincides with the suction opening (15) covering the inlet (11) of the suction duct (9) situated on the intermediate component (14) into the suction duct (9), the air sucked in by the fan (8) flows into the exhaust duct (10) and expelled to the outside environment by means of the fan (8) through the exhaust opening (16) which coincides with the outlet (12). In this embodiment, when the door (4) is closed, the door outlet opening (19) which is preferably situated on the surface of the door (4) facing the cooking chamber (2) completely couples with the exhaust opening (15) on the intermediate component (14) covering the inlet (11) and since the extension (22) is dimensioned to partially or completely cover the door (4) when it is closed, the mixing of the air inflowing into the suction duct (9) with the air outflowing from the exhaust duct (10) is prevented without the need for any sealing elements (Figure 4, Figure 5 and Figure 6).
[021] The intermediate component (14) can be a component independent from the cooking appliance (1) or can be built in one piece with the panel (20) or the body (3) as well. The intermediate component (14) is preferably produced of metal but can be made of plastic as well. With the present invention, it is possible to prevent the mixing of the air inflowing into the suction duct (9) with the air outflowing from the exhaust duct (10) without the need for any sealing elements like gasket etc., to keep the distance between the inlet (11) and the outlet (12) fixed, thus the distance between the suction duct (9) and the exhaust duct (10), by fixing the separator (13) separating the suction and exhaust ducts (9 and 10) and to reduce the distance between the inlet (11) and the outlet (12) to the minimum possible value and to have an effective air circulation. The present invention presents a cost advantage and ease of assembly since no additional sealing element is utilized.
