Definitions
- the present invention relates to a set comprising templates used for the manufacture of tenons and mortises in dovetails, intended for the assembly of pieces of wooden beams.
- the assemblies commonly used consist of straight tenons and mortises. Achieving a right post is problematic in that it is necessary to use either a high cost stationary frame tenoner, or a portable circular saw requiring several manual operations and whose final result lacks precision.
- a straight tenon and mortise executed on structural members are recessed into one another in the same plane with the end of the structural part provided with the right post against the face of the other part provided with the mortise. This embedding requires the spacing of the two pieces of framework, at least the value of the length of the right post, so that it can slip into the mortise.
- a right tenon can come out of the mortise as the assembly is not pegged or maintained by another technical means.
- a straight tenon and mortise joint is by definition not self-tightening.
- the document DE 198 13 098 describes a method of making a tenon and a mortise by two templates, each having a cutout for obtaining a tenon, respectively mortise rights.
- the tilting depth of the post and the mortise is obtained by a dovetail-shaped cutter.
- Such a set of tenon and mortise requires an assembly by force of the tenon in the mortise and very high precision of machining on the width of these two elements, a tenon too large relative to the mortise preventing the assembly of these elements and the contrary, a tenon too narrow relative to the mortise making the assembly unstable or even unreliable.
- the cutting tool preparing such assembly is controlled by computer to ensure the necessary machining accuracy.
- Another assembly technique used in the field of the framework consists of a tenon and mortise dovetail-shaped, fitting into each other self-tightening and whose achievement to date is exclusively possible by a numerically controlled machine for the size of the frame and whose cost is extremely high.
- Such a machine is intended to produce assemblies of prefabricated beams in the factory; given its size, it is not intended to work on a construction site.
- the document DE 297 01 492 describes a mechanically made dovetail assembly. Although this document describes the advantages of a dovetail assembly with sloping flanks, it does not describe the means for making a tenon and a mortise for such an assembly. No indication is provided on the type of template to be used for this purpose.
- An object of the invention is therefore to provide a device for making assemblies of structural parts that do not meet the disadvantages of known devices.
- the device must be portable, making it possible to make joints by mortise and tenon dovetail easy to achieve, both on a building site than workshop, which can be made in a repetitive manner, the necessary equipment being little expensive.
- a device for making tenons and a female template for making mortises, as described in claim 1.
- a device for making tenons and a female template for making mortises, as described in claim 1.
- Specific embodiments and variants are described in the dependent claims.
- the male template 1 shown in figures 1 and 2 is intended to allow the manufacture of a dovetail-shaped tenon on an end face of a wooden beam 2, visible here behind the template.
- the jig 1 consists essentially of a rigid plate 10, preferably metal or hard synthetic material.
- the plate 10 comprises a cutout 11 of which a central portion 110 has a dovetail shape.
- the cutout 11 also comprises a notch 12, outside the portion 110 in the form of a dovetail, intended to position a router at the beginning of milling the tenon.
- the jig 1 also comprises an adjustable abutment 14, disposed behind the plate 10 and comprising a bearing portion 140 intended to rest on the upper field of the beam 2.
- the position of the stop 14, respectively of the bearing portion 140 on the template 1 is adjustable on along marker means, for example the pins 141 signaling different heights of beam or tenons, the abutment 14 being then fixed according to the height chosen by fixing means, for example one or more screws 142.
- the template also comprises an abutment clamping device 15, also arranged behind the plate 10, and comprising a clamping portion 150 intended to come into clamping support on the face of the beam 2 opposite to that on which the support 140 is disposed.
- Fastening means 151 make it possible to fix the clamping abutment 15, so that the beam 2 is pinched between the bearing portions 140 and 150.
- the bearing portions 140 and 150 may comprise teeth or claws, not shown in the figures, intended to be plugged into the beam, or any other anti-slip surface means, helping to hold the jig 1 even more firmly on the end of the beam 2.
- the jig 1 may further comprise centering means, for example a mark 13 provided here on a central portion of the blank, or any other means of reference, for example a cut-out on stairs, arranged on the adjustable stop 14 and / or on the stop clamping device 15 for positioning the template 1 on the beam 2 so that the post is cut in the center of the end face of the beam 2.
- the tightening of the bearing portions 140 and 150 can be further improved by arranging one or two clamps on these support portions 140 and 150.
- the support portions 140 and 150 each comprise a notch near the central portion of the cutout 11 in the shape of a dovetail.
- Holes 16, arranged on the central portion of the jig 1, can be used to screw the jig 1 on the end of the beam 2, in the case where, depending on the configuration or the shape of the beam 2, it is not necessary to possible to fix the template by the means described above.
- the female jig 3 shown in figures 3 and 4 , is intended to allow the manufacture of a dovetail-shaped mortise on a face of a wooden beam 4.
- the jig 3 consists essentially of a rigid plate 30, preferably metal or hard synthetic material and preferably of thickness slightly less than that of the plate 10 of the template 1 for a reason which will be explained below.
- the plate 30 comprises a cutout 31, a central portion 310 of which has a dovetail shape, similar to the shape of the rounded tail of the cutout 110 of the template 1.
- An indentation 32 is provided on the cutout 31, outside the dovetail-shaped area, allowing the positioning of a router at the beginning of milling of the mortise.
- the jig 3 also comprises an adjustable abutment 34 disposed behind the plate 30 and comprising a bearing portion 340 intended to bear on the upper field of the beam 4.
- the position of the abutment 34, respectively of the support portion 340 is adjustable along marking means, for example marks 341 signaling different heights of beam or tenons, the stop 34 being then fixed according to the height chosen by fixing means, for example one or more screws 342.
- the jig 3 may further comprise a clamping abutment (not shown in the figure), comprising a clamping portion and fixing means and functioning as the corresponding clamping abutment described for the male jig.
- the beam 4 in which one or more mortises are to be made is arranged at the top of a wall, its lower face which should be tightened by the clamping abutment is not accessible.
- Other fastening means must therefore also be provided, such as for example ear-shaped portions 36 of the sheet metal plate, intended to receive clamps or holes 37 for screwing the template 3 on the beam 4 to fix it.
- the choice of the appropriate fastening means depends on the configuration and shape of the beam 4 or the characteristics of a workshop or site work.
- the bearing portion 340 and the possible bearing portion of the clamping means each comprise a notch near the central portion of the slot. cutting 31 shaped dovetail.
- a reference means 33 for example a notch on a central portion of the cutout 31, or another reference means on the adjustable stop 34, makes it possible to position the jig 3 precisely on the beam 4.
- a male jig 1 is taken and the position adjustment of the adjustable abutment 14 is determined first, according to the dimensions of the carrying beam, and then this stop in position on the template by the fastening means 142. Then the template 1 is placed on the end face of the beam 2, the support portion 140 being placed on the upper field of the beam, the template is centered on by the appropriate centering means and the jig 1 is fixed on the end of the beam by one or other of the attachment means described.
- a conventional manual router is then prepared by equipping it with a copying ring and a dovetail cutter.
- the support table incorporated in the router are not sufficient to provide a suitable support of the latter on the surface of the template, an extension of this support table can be provided.
- the milling height is adjusted by a dipstick or any other measuring means so as to correspond to the depth of the tenon or the mortise.
- the router is then introduced into the notch 12, supported on the one hand by its support table on the surface of the template and on the other hand by its copying ring against the cutting portion 110 in the shape of a tail. dove.
- the router is started and the milling is carried out following the cutout 110, then possibly by milling the balance of the beam out of the action field of the cutter when the copying ring remains in contact with the cutout 110.
- having removed the ripper and the jig from the end of the beam it has a beam 2 provided with a pin of a determined depth and perfectly formed at its end.
- a female template 3 is taken and the position of the adjustable stop 34 is adjusted to the same value as the adjustment value used on the template 1, then the template 3 is positioned and fixed on the beam 4 to the where the mortise is to realize. Without changing the depth setting of the cutter on the ripper, the mortise is milled in a manner similar to that described above. After removal of the router and the template, there is a beam 4 provided with a mortise of a determined depth and perfectly formed.
- the thickness of the plate 30 forming the female jig 3 is slightly less than that of the plate 10 forming the male jig 1.
- the tenons and mortises are always dimensioned so as to present the optimum load capacity according to the dimensions of the beams to be assembled.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a set comprising templates used for the manufacture of tenons and mortises in dovetails, intended for the assembly of pieces of wooden beams.
In the field of the framework, the assemblies commonly used consist of straight tenons and mortises. Achieving a right post is problematic in that it is necessary to use either a high cost stationary frame tenoner, or a portable circular saw requiring several manual operations and whose final result lacks precision. A straight tenon and mortise executed on structural members are recessed into one another in the same plane with the end of the structural part provided with the right post against the face of the other part provided with the mortise. This embedding requires the spacing of the two pieces of framework, at least the value of the length of the right post, so that it can slip into the mortise. In addition, a right tenon can come out of the mortise as the assembly is not pegged or maintained by another technical means. A straight tenon and mortise joint is by definition not self-tightening.

Another assembly technique used in the field of the framework consists of a tenon and mortise dovetail-shaped, fitting into each other self-tightening and whose achievement to date is exclusively possible by a numerically controlled machine for the size of the frame and whose cost is extremely high. Such a machine is intended to produce assemblies of prefabricated beams in the factory; given its size, it is not intended to work on a construction site.
Another common way of making structural assemblies is through the use of metal connectors attached and fixed to the structural members. The majority of the metal connectors comprise a male part and a female part which are intended to fit one into the other. These connectors are positioned and fixed on the structural members by means of screws or anchoring nails with or without prior milling of a housing. The connectors and the fasteners necessary for their attachment represent expensive equipment whose acquisition is repeated as many times as it is necessary to make an assembly. The realization of such assemblies requires many operations and is therefore relatively long.
As for the existing portable templates in the field of the frame, they are intended for many applications as the milling for the housing of the fittings, the positioning of fittings or as a drilling guide. Existing templates do not allow for portable milling of dovetailed tenons and mortises for the framing.
An object of the invention is therefore to provide a device for making assemblies of structural parts that do not meet the disadvantages of known devices. In particular, the device must be portable, making it possible to make joints by mortise and tenon dovetail easy to achieve, both on a building site than workshop, which can be made in a repetitive manner, the necessary equipment being little expensive.
For this, there is provided a device, a set or a set including a male template for making tenons and a female template for making mortises, as described in

After having placed, positioned and fixed the
For making a tenon on the end of a beam, a
The making of a mortise in a
It has been said previously that the thickness of the
It will preferably have several sets, sets or sets of male and female templates, these different games, sets or sets each corresponding to beams of a certain range of dimensions. Thus, for example, there will be a set of jigs, male and female, for small beams, for the manufacture of narrow dykes, another set for medium-sized beams for the manufacture of dovetails of dimensions. medium and one last set for large beams, for the construction of large dykes. Thus the tenons and mortises are always dimensioned so as to present the optimum load capacity according to the dimensions of the beams to be assembled.
Thus, using the device described, comprising the sets of templates described, it is now possible to make tenons and mortises dovetails on beams, which are self-tightening, this in the workshop or directly on site, in a simple, inexpensive and repetitive way.
