Avec le développement grandissant des plates-formes véhicule, il est devenu indispensable de pouvoir adapter de manière simple et efficace une même référence de support de poignée à des panneaux d'épaisseurs différentes. Jusqu'à présent le moyen le plus satisfaisant consistait à réaliser, sur les panneaux d'épaisseur non adaptée au support de poignée, des emboutis pour compenser le jeu au niveau des moyens d'accrochage.
