Um das Abstapeln bzw. Vereinzeln einzelner Deckel sicherzustellen, ist es bekannt, eine Oberflächen-Prägung auf bzw. in das Deckelmaterial aufzubringen. Diese Prägung wirkt sich ungünstig auf die Bedruckung aus, da diese dadurch die Brillanz verliert und andererseits werden kleingedruckte Aufdrucke, z.B. das Verfalldatum, Strichcode oder Inhaltsangaben, schwer lesbar.
Es sind deshalb schon Verfahren bekannt, bei denen mindestens derjenige Bereich des Deckels nach dem Aufbringen einer das Abstapeln begünstigenden Prägung im Schriftbereich wieder plattgedrückt wird. Allerdings ist eine vollständige Rückführung der Prägungen in eine glatte Oberfläche nicht möglich.

Mit einem Exzenterantrieb, welcher die Prägeplatten bezüglich des Folienbandes von Takt zu Takt verschiebt, können auf einfache Weise die notwendigen Deckungsungleichheiten sicher erlangt werden. Die Anordnung des Prägewerkzeugs unmittelbar vor dem Stanzwerkzeug ermöglicht es, beide Werkzeuge so aufeinander abzustimmen, dass keine oder kaum Korrekturen infolge Verstreckung des Folienbandes vor dem Prägen und/oder Stanzen notwendig sind. Während des Stopps des Vorschubs des Folienbandes 3 wird einerseits durch das Prägewerkzeug 23 die Prägung 39 durchgeführt und gleichzeitig in Transportrichtung T weiter unten das Ausstanzen der Deckel 55 aus dem Band 3 vorgenommen. Für den Abgleich des Prägewerkzeugs 23 auf die Bedruckung kann letzteres in Richtung des Pfeils X auf der Basisplatte 29 justiert werden.
