In operation, the material stresses are regularly higher, especially when the first and second sections have very different temperatures, and especially when this temperature difference extends over a very small area. In the event that the first portion is warmer than the second portion, the first material is conveniently selected to have a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the second material.
- the fluid is a particular recirculated exhaust gas or exhaust gas-air mixture of the internal combustion engine, wherein the fluid temperature in the first section in conventional operation is more than 300 ° C, in particular more than 500 ° C.

- the head portion 5a In the cavity 13 is flowing coolant, so that the head portion 5a is considerably cooler despite the exhaust gas impinging on him. In the region of the head element 5a, this can result in a considerable mechanical stress due to a very high temperature gradient in the smallest space. In particular, due to the thermally induced expansion of the connection region 1 and its wall 3, the head element 5a is stretched so that the exchanger tubes 10 experience a bending in their end-side connection region, which is also evident from FIG.

- the head element 5a and the exchanger tubes 10 are made of austenitic steel 1.4404. This steel has a higher resistance to corrosion than the ferritic steel of the connection area 1. Since due to the overall high temperature of the connection area 1 condensation of strongly acidic and oxidizing liquid phases from the exhaust gas flow does not occur or only for a short time under unfavorable operating conditions, the corrosion of the Connection area 1 by the exhaust gas flow is not a significant problem.
- the housing portions 5, 6 are also made of austenitic steel 1.4404.
- the outer wall 7 of the heat exchanger which at no point comes into contact with the exhaust gas, consists of the austenitic steel 1.4301.
- the outlet area 8 with its flange 9 is expediently also made of a particularly corrosion-resistant austenitic steel, for. Eg 1.4404.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a heat exchanger for an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of
In general, occur in such and other heat exchangers, between the inlet and outlet of the fluid to be cooled significant temperature differences have high material loads due to thermally induced mechanical stresses.
It is the object of the invention to provide a heat exchanger for an internal combustion engine, in which a thermally induced material load is reduced.
This object is achieved according to the invention for a heat exchanger mentioned above with the characterizing features of
Due to the fact that the heat exchanger has a first section of a first material and a second section of a second, different material directly connected to the first section, at least partial compensation of temperature-induced mechanical stresses between the first and second sections is made possible. Different types of material regularly have different coefficients of thermal expansion, so that with a suitable choice of material pairing depending on the particular structure of the heat exchanger, a reduction of the mechanical stresses is possible. This is especially true for two metals with significantly different thermal expansion coefficients. In this case, the heat exchanger in non-operation, in which it is homogeneous to ambient temperature, regularly no or very little material stresses.
In a preferred embodiment, the fluid is a particular recirculated exhaust gas or exhaust gas-air mixture of the internal combustion engine, wherein the fluid temperature in the first section in conventional operation is more than 300 ° C, in particular more than 500 ° C. Such high fluid temperatures regularly lead to particularly high material tension, so that a heat exchanger according to the invention brings here particularly great advantages.
Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the first section substantially corresponds to the first connection region and is connected to the exchanger region in a materially bonded manner, in particular welded, soldered, adhesively bonded, etc. As a result, a particularly temperature-resistant and high-strength connection of Artschlussbereich and exchange area is guaranteed.
Furthermore, it can preferably be provided that the first connection region has a widening of a passage cross-section in the direction of the exchanger region, whereby a distribution of the fluid to a larger exchanger surface is favored. At the same time, there is also a large absolute material expansion and thus material distortion of the terminal region, so that the material selection according to the invention is particularly favorable.
In an advantageous embodiment, an adjustable flap can be arranged in the connection area. As a result, for example, the distribution of the fluid flow to the exchanger area and / or a bypass line or a further exchanger area is made possible.
In a preferred embodiment, the exchanger region has a plurality of exchanger tubes, whereby the heat-transmitting surface and thus the heat exchanger performance is increased for a given space. In this case, the exchanger tubes are particularly preferably connected to a head element. To Obtaining a permanent and high temperature resistant connection are the exchanger tubes with the head element in particular materially connected by welding, soldering, gluing, etc. Another cohesive connection, such as by brazing, but also possible.
A heat exchanger provided with exchanger tubes preferably has an exchanger housing through which the coolant can flow. As a result, the use of a liquid coolant is possible, which may be connected in particular to a main cooling circuit of the internal combustion engine. However, the liquid coolant can also form a separate cooling circuit, in which in particular a lower coolant temperature than in the case of the main engine coolant can be achieved. Especially when using liquid coolant, high temperature differences occur over a particularly small spatial area, since the liquid coolant allows a considerably greater power density than a gaseous coolant. In this case, the exchanger housing particularly preferably consists of the second material. Alternatively or additionally, the head element may particularly preferably consist of the second material. As an alternative or in addition, the exchanger tubes may consist of the second material. Both the exchanger housing, the head element and the exchanger tubes are parts that can undergo a very high local temperature change with respect to adjacent parts. It may in particular also be provided that one of the group exchanger housing, head element and exchanger tubes made of the second material and another from this group of a further, third material. Both the second and the third material can be suitably adapted to the first material in terms of their thermal expansion coefficient.
In a preferred embodiment, the first connection region consists of the first material. The first connection area is regular, due to the entry of the fluid to be cooled, with the highest temperature of the heat exchanger acted upon, so that a transition from the first material to the second material is meaningful after the connection area takes place. Against this background, it is useful for the first material to have a smaller coefficient of thermal expansion than the second material, so that the high operating temperature range expands with a lower thermal expansion coefficient than the lower operating temperature range.
Generally, the first material is a ferritic steel. Ferritic steels are steels which, upon solidification, acquire a ferritic structure which can not be influenced by a heat treatment. These properties are based on ferrite formers. These steels are heat-resistant, have special magnetic properties, are not quench-hardened, and are prone to coarse grain formation. Ferritic steels are suitable for cold forming if their C content is <0.1%.
Particularly preferred is the first material is a steel from the group 1.4509 and 1.4512, designations according to DIN EN 100 88-2. Further preferably, the second material is an austenitic steel.
Austenitic steels are in particular manganese or nickel-alloyed steels. Mn and Ni expand the range of austenite. The automotive lattice is retained even after quenching at room temperature. Quenching does not make the austenites harder but softer. They achieve such high elongation values and are easy to form. Austenitic steels are not magnetizable. These include stainless chromium-nickel steels, Mn-alloyed wear-resistant and non-magnetic steels. The steels are standardized in DIN EN 10088.
Particularly preferably, the second material is a steel from the group 1.4301 and 1.4404, designations according to DIN EN 100 88-2. Ferritic and austenitic steels regularly have significantly different thermal expansion coefficients, which is advantageous in the context of the invention.
Nevertheless, they are usually directly cohesively connectable without major problems, in particular weldable, solderable, bondable, etc. In the most preferred case of the liquid-cooled exhaust gas heat exchanger, in which a first connection area of ferritic steel and the subsequent heat exchanger area is austenitic steel has shown to be advantageous that the use of the ferritic steel brings no disadvantages. So far, the use of ferritic steels has basically been dispensed with in the construction of such heat exchangers, since a higher susceptibility to corrosion was feared. insofar as according to the invention only that region which is exposed to particularly high temperatures consists of a ferritic steel, no harmful corrosion of the ferritic material is to be feared due to the lack of condensation of the exhaust gas. Rather, the material stresses are reduced by the inventive arrangement of the different materials on the heat exchanger, so that the risk of cracks and breakthroughs is reduced. The risk of cracks and breaks in the exchanger area must be minimized in the case of liquid-cooled exhaust gas heat exchangers, since the entry of cooling liquid into the recirculated exhaust gas flow can lead to almost instantaneous and considerable engine damage due to water hammer.
Further advantages and features of the heat exchanger according to the invention will become apparent from the following described embodiment and from the dependent claims.

The heat exchanger according to FIG. 1 is a liquid-cooled heat exchanger for the cooling of recirculated exhaust gas of a diesel engine, in this case in the embodiment for a commercial vehicle. It comprises a first, formed as an
The
The exchanger region 4 comprises a first, inlet-side housing section 5 and a second, outlet-
In the flow direction outlet side of the
Each of the
The illustration from FIG. 4 shows a detailed view of a section through the heat exchanger. In particular, it is shown how the
In order to keep this material load in the region of the
B. 1.4404.The
