Abstract

The inventive mechanism comprises a series of toothed wheels meshing each with other or by groups and driven by a mobile which is connected to a basic timepiece movement by means of a mobile, wherein each toothed wheel is superimposed by a disc carrying pictures, figures or signs and rotating in a corresponding bore of the timepiece dial.

Description

The invention relates to a mechanism for displaying drawings, figures or animated signs on a timepiece dial.

In recent years, there exist on the watch market models called fantaisies (of a "fun" or psychedelic character), as for ex. some Swatch or Silberstein watches or Harry Winston's Opus III.

All these pieces have the distinction of being original and stick to the spirit of fashion, but in general their major flaw is a poor reading of the hour.

The document JP 7,244,173 describes a mechanism for displaying animated signs on a timepiece dial comprising a first and a second series of gears driven in rotation by a ring gear itself driven by the base movement of the timepiece.

The display mechanism according to the invention can equip a basic movement with manual winding, automatic, quartz or autoquartz and the particularity of animating the watch face by reconstituting a given pattern for a chosen period (1 minute at 24h).

The additional mechanism for displaying animated drawings, figures or signs on a dial of a timepiece comprising a basic movement is characterized in that it comprises at least a first series of gears each toothed wheel of said at least one first series of gears being placed under an opening of a dial of a timepiece, and meshing with two toothed wheels of said at least one series of adjacent gears to form a first closed continuous gear train ; in that each toothed wheel of said at least one first set of gears is surmounted by a wafer located in the corresponding opening of the dial and bearing a drawing, a figure or a sign, at least one of the wafers being intended to be animated relatively to the dial; and in that one of the toothed wheels of the at least one first series of toothed wheels is driven via a first mobile, itself in connection with the basic movement of the timepiece.

According to one embodiment, the mechanism comprises a plurality of toothed wheels connected to each other or controlled separately or in groups.

The mechanism may comprise a first series of 12 gears placed at the periphery of the mechanism and a second series of 6 gears placed between the center of the dial and the first series of 12 gears.

In a preferred embodiment, the plates surmounting the gears are discs intended to rotate in a corresponding opening of the dial. The discs can be positioned at the same level as the dial or arranged to stand out from the level of the dial or inlaid under the dial.

The mechanism may be arranged to animate at least one or more groups of disks. Discs are usually used to animate a design or image. They can alternatively animate the hour, the minute, the month, the days of the week, the seasons, the equinoxes, the solstices, the day and the night, etc.

The drawing represents, as an example, an embodiment of a mechanism for displaying drawings, figures or animated signs on a timepiece dial object of the invention.

The mechanism shown in the drawing is in the form of an additional module that can equip parts including a basic movement with manual winding, an automatic movement or a quartz movement or autoquartz. It has the particularity of animating the dial of the timepiece by reconstituting a given pattern or design during a period previously chosen, for example 1 minute, one hour or 12 or 24 hours.

The Fig. 1 explains the implantation of the moving parts of the dial. This implementation is not exhaustive and can be modified at will, but the figure represents an example of a drawing, made according to the amount of possible dial designs.

The mechanism 1 consists of twelve disks 2 uniformly distributed over the railway of the minutes of a dial 3 and are placed halfway to the location of the hour markers. Alternatively, the location of the disks 2. could coincide with the place where the indexes indicating the hours are usually located.
An additional series of six disks 4 of the same diameter as the disks 2 are distributed concentrically around the dial 3 and arranged at a value of ½ angular step with respect to the series of the first twelve disks 2. The set of disks 2 and 4 will be driven by the mechanism as described below and discs 2 and 4 will be placed in corresponding cutouts of dial 3, so as to be in the same plane as the dial 3.
When the mechanism 1 drives the discs 2 and 4 the uncut part of the dial 3 keeps the decoration in a fixed manner; as for the 18 disks, they can be animated in rotation at a speed chosen between less than a minute and more than one day ( Fig.2 and 3 ). The image represented in the figure 2 is thus decomposed and its reconstruction is carried out after a certain period of time to return to the drawing of the Fig.2 .

In the case cited above the disks 2 and 4 are trailing that is to say that they evolve in a linear way bringing the drawing of the dial in a progressive way, without ever really stopping on the image . The mechanism 1 may however be arranged to perform a downtime on the reconstituted image. On the other hand, one or a series of disks 2 and 4 can be driven independently of the others, so as to obtain special visual effects during the partial or complete reconstruction of the image.

The mechanism carrying the discs 2 and 4 is represented in the Fig.4 is working as follows:
The wheel or mobile 10 is secured to a mobile belonging to the base movement of the timepiece that receives the additional mechanism 1, such as the hour wheel of a basic caliber or timer, or any other mobile.

The mobile 10 rotates clockwise, it meshes directly with a mobile 11 which turns in the counterclockwise direction. This drives a wheel 12 clockwise. The wheel 12 is identical to the other 17 wheels 12 and 13 making up the mobile (18 with it). These 18 wheels successively represent the 6 inner wheels 12 and 12 outer wheels 13. Each of these wheels carries a disc 2, 4. These discs are visible on the dial side and give by their movement, the desired animation side dial. In our case, it is an insert that makes disc effect and which is fixed integrally to these wheels 12, 13. As can be seen in the drawing, these wheels 12, 13 have an identical diameter. The wheel 12 rotating in the clockwise direction is positioned at the same height level as the other 5 wheels 12 in its group, alternately rotating the wheels clockwise and counter-clockwise. The number of wheels of the group being even that allows the last wheel to mesh with the first without blocking it since it turns in the opposite direction. The drive of these 6 wheels can be realized from any of these 6 wheels. In other words, pinion 11 can be located angularly all around the mobile 10 so as to mesh with one of the 6 wheels 12.

The 12 outer wheels 13 of the same diameter as the previous 6 wheels are arranged at a different height, so that the teeth of these wheels do not touch the inner wheels 12. The pinion 14 acting on 2 different heights receives its speed. rotation of the group of 6 wheels and redistributes it to the group of 12 wheels. This pinion 14 can be placed at any place as long as its pitch diameter is tangential to a wheel of the inner group and tangent to a wheel of the outer group. The number of wheels of the group of 12 being even, the direction of rotation of the mobile is alternately hourly and anti-clock can therefore describe a loop without stopping the mobile.
The figure 5 shows the two gear levels of the group of 6 wheels and the group of 12 wheels. It represents a section between an inner wheel 12 and an adjacent outer wheel 13. It can be seen in the section of the Fig. 5 the two level heights between the inner wheels 12 and the outer wheels 13. On these wheels 12 and 13 are placed unrepresented pellets representing the disks of the Fig. 1 to 3 .
The mechanism shown in the drawing may comprise an unrepresented pulse member arranged to move the discs 2 and / or 4 by jerks of for example 30 ° at each jump. It would thus be possible to indicate the time with the aid of the 12 disks 13 The design or image affixed to the disks 13 would then be the succession of digits representing the twelve hours and the image would thus be decomposed except for a single disc indicating the time. The displacement (successive recomposition of the numbers) is punctuated by the pulses received by the center mobile of our module when it is assembled on a movement or a jumping hour module. The jumping hour movement or module inevitably contains a jumping hour wheel, as its name indicates, hour by hour, making leaps of 30 °.

The advantage of this arrangement is to be able to indicate the hour without hour hand if desired, the hour digit that it is recomposed at once and remaining displayed for a full hour.

  • Assurer une lecture standard et facile de l'heure ;
Reading the time becomes easier than in the case of a trailing mechanism like the previous one, but another advantage is to be able to use the hour hand of the basic mechanism, this in two perspectives:
  • Ensure a standard and easy reading of the time;
  • Use this hour hand or the number (depending on the choice or taste of the final wearer) as 2nd time zone.

The hour hand may be replaced by a transparent disk (sapphire disk) having a translucent area of different color so as to indicate the place where the recomposed digit is to be read, thereby facilitating the speed of reading the time. .

The mechanism just described in the Figures 1 to 5 Drawing offers the following possibilities:
  • The disks 2 and 4 may or may not appear on the dial, that is to say that one can move only one or a desired number between 1 and 18 or more groups of disks.
  • The discs 2 and 4 are or are not positioned at the same level as the level 0 of the dial (they can stand out or be inlaid).
  • The design or decorations of these dials may or may not represent a coherent design.
  • The disks 2 and 4 can be treated galvanically or by any means known today in the decoration of the dials, that is to say set - stonecut - guilloche - decalc - engraved - cut - etc.
  • The discs 2 and 4 may all be identical or different decals, grouped by genre or not.

The mechanism is arranged to perform the action of disassembling and reconstructing a single design, signs or logo or several designs signs and logos on the same dial.

The mechanism can control the 12 outer disks 2 in one of the ways mentioned above, but rotate the 6 inner disks 4 (or only one of these disks) at a speed different from the 12 outer disks 2, so as to indicate for example the AM / PM using colored discs alternating between day and night.

The mechanism has the possibility of being added to a cage-whirl mechanism or any other mechanism involving not using one or more disks. For example, 8 discs can be removed to allow the Tourbillon cage to pass.

Regarding the materials used: Depending on the range and quantity of parts manufactured, the components forming the mechanism (dials, disk 2 and 4, wheels 12, 13, etc. may be machined or injected plastics, or machined or injected metal.

Le cadran a une épaisseur de 0,4 mm.According to a preferred embodiment, the example mechanism has an outer diameter of 30 mm and contains dial-side visible discs of 5.7 mm diameter. The dial has a thickness of 0.4 mm.

It goes without saying that for the same principle used in a smaller size watch, for example a lady's watch or of intermediate size, the dimensions of the dial and the discs will be different. Finally the number of these discs can vary between 1 and 50.

The mechanism can also be used for larger hourly devices (from the clock to the flower clock of a square in a big city).

The series of 6 inner disks 4 can be replaced by 7 disks which indicate the day of the week (Monday to Sunday) and the series of 12 outer disks 2 would indicate the months and the decal or design of the dial which could include the four seasons , equinoxes and solstices, etc.

According to a variant of the mechanism, it is possible to cover with a plate the gears of the 18 mobiles 12, 13 of the module of the Fig.4 . This plate then has 18 holes of small diameters positioned on the axes of rotation of the 18 wheels allowing axes to exit through the holes in order to move objects fixed at their ends. These objects can be in the form of platelets of different shapes (all possible geometric shapes) for the purpose of either animate parts in three dimensions, or to use them as "caches" of the lower plate.
These shapes can give the impression of being operated by each other. For example, with half-circles sometimes showing "hearts", sometimes "spades", the whole dial can be decorated sometimes with "hearts" sometimes "spades".
These pieces attached to the ends of the axes can be forms capable of passing from one room to another a gem set in a cylindrical cap so that the stone indicates the minute. If 12 disks complete 1 turn in 10 minutes, or ½ turn in 5 minutes, they drag the stone from one module to another following a milled gallery in the base dial in 12 x 5 minutes = 60 minutes.

Finally, the discs that we want to rotate may not be located in the same plane parallel to that of the indication hours and minutes. For example, one can imagine the conical bezel with disks arranged circularly in the plane of the cone and, in order to operate the small disks in another plane, they are connected with a carbon fiber cable or equivalent.
