Der Fußschalter wird in der Regel unterhalb der Liegefläche in der Nähe der Liegeflächenkante abgestellt, so dass er keine Stolperfalle darstellt. Er ist lediglich über ein freies, ungeführtes Kabel mit dem oder den Antriebsmotoren für die Hubmechanik verbunden. Bei der Betätigung des Schalters tritt der Bedienende mit dem Fuß unter die Liegefläche auf den Schalter. Wird dabei die Liegefläche zu weit heruntergefahren, kann es zum Einklemmen des Fußes kommen, so dass der Schalter nicht mehr entlastet und damit die Absenkbewegung des Hubbettes oder der Behandlungsliege nicht mehr zum stehen gebracht werden kann. Fig.1 zeigt beispielhaft ein Hubbett 1, dessen Bettpfosten als Teleskop-Hubsäulen 2, die jeweils Drehspindeln aufweisen, ausgebildet sind. Der Antrieb wird durch die Elektromotoren 3 bewirkt, deren Antriebsachse in die Brücke 4, auf der je zwei Hubsäulen angeordnet sind, hineinragt und von dort mittels Zahnriemen nach beiden Seiten auf die Spindeln wirkt. Das Fußbetätigungsteil 5 weist zwei Pedale 5.1 und 5.2 in Form federbelasteter Wippen auf, von denen eines bei Belastung die Aufwärtsbewegung des Bettes auslöst und das andere die Absenkbewegung. Das Betätigungsteil ist frei stehend unter den Bett aufgestellt und über Leitungen 6 mit den Motoren 3 verbunden.
