- this type of program is usually obtained through a single-delivery washing pump and a flow distribution valve controlled by the control unit of the machine to direct the water flow to the upper or lower sprinkler.
- this conventional arrangement has various drawbacks both in manufacturing and using the machine.
- valve requires a "closed loop” control in that it is necessary to know the position of the flow distributor for a correct operation of the machine. Therefore this implies a greater complexity of the electronic control unit with respect to the management of the usual devices contained in a dishwasher (electrovalves, heating resistance, etc.) that are controlled in an "open loop” manner, with a consequent increase in the cost and complexity of the electronic unit.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a dishwasher which overcomes the above-mentioned drawbacks. This object is achieved by means of a dishwasher provided with an integrated device suitable to automatically alternate the supply to the two upper and lower sprinklers.
- the main advantage of the dishwasher according to the present invention is exactly that of allowing to dispense with the valve to alternate the supply to the two sprinklers.
- a dishwasher includes a collecting sump 1, located at the bottom of the tank, comprising a distribution chamber 2 in which a vertical pivot 3 rotatably supports a vertical toothed gear 4 that is integral with a semicircular horizontal shutter 5.
- the distribution chamber 2 is closed at the top by a lid 6 secured through a plurality of screws 7 that engage corresponding columns 7' by passing through suitable holes 7" formed in said lid 6.
- the above-mentioned vertical toothed gear 4 projects from chamber 2 through a central opening 8 formed in lid 6, and engages a horizontal worm 9 that is integral with a horizontal toothed gear 10 coaxial therewith.
- Said worm 9 and the toothed gear 10 are rotatably supported by a horizontal shaft 11, mounted on supports 12 formed on lid 6.
- the horizontal toothed gear 10 engages in turn a vertical worm 13 that is rotatably supported by a vertical shaft 14 received into a suitable seat 15 formed on lid 6, and it is integral with a rotor 16 coaxial therewith.
- Said rotor 16 is rotated by a water jet coming from a column 17, adjacent thereto, which is provided with a top vertical nozzle 17' and is integral with lid 6 and therefore in communication with chamber 2.
- Water is supplied to chamber 2 through an inlet 18, that together with an outlet 19 provides the circulation of water between sump 1 and a washing pump 20 along a suction duct 21 and a delivery duct 22.
- shutter 5 is arranged in the distribution chamber 2 under lid 6 and rotates therein thanks to the push of water on rotor 16.
- shutter 5 is integral with the vertical toothed gear 4 that through the above-mentioned engagements of members 9, 10 and 13 receives the rotatory motion from rotor 16.
- shutter 5 In its rotational path under lid 6, shutter 5 uncovers a first passage 23 that provides access to a first outlet 24 that through a pipe 25 supplies water to the upper sprinkler 26. Moving on along said path, shutter 5 covers the first passage 23 and uncovers a second passage 27 that provides access to a second outlet 28 that through a pipe 29 supplies water to the lower sprinkler 30.
- the continuous rotation of shutter 5 automatically produces the alternate supply of water to the upper and lower sprinkler.
- the device can be designed so that the second passage 27 is uncovered prior to, concurrently with or after the covering of the first passage 23, according to the extension of shutter 5 and/or to the position and size of passages 23, 27 formed in lid 6.
- the rotational speed of shutter 5 depends on the overall drive ratio of the kinematic chain connecting it to rotor 16, as well as on the characteristics of nozzle 17' and rotor 16.
- the kinematic chain that transmits the rotatory motion of rotor 16 to shutter 5 may include different members yet mechanically equivalent to the toothed gears and worms illustrated above.
- the exact shape, size and arrangement of the device members can be somewhat changed as long as the function of automatic alternate supply to the two sprinklers is retained.
- the distribution chamber 2 could be made as a separate member rather than being integrated in sump 1, or shutter 5 could rotate over lid 6 that in such an instance would be modified to allow the passage of shutter 5 under or internally to the other members formed on the top of lid 6.
