Über eine Transportstrecke mit Weichen werden die Sendungen entsprechend den Zieladressen auf die zugeordneten Stapelfächer verteilt. Um einen hohen Durchsatz der Sendungssortieranlagen zu erreichen, werden die Abstände zwischen den Sendungen (Sendungslü- cken) möglichst klein gewählt. Sollen unterschiedliche Sendungsarten (z.B. dünne instabile hohe Sendungen, offene Zeitschriften) eingestapelt werden, so sind sie in einen solchen Zustand zu versetzen, dass sie den weitgehend stützfreien Weg zwischen der letzten Klemmstelle der Transportstrecke und der Stapelrolle passieren, ohne dass dabei die offenen Sendungen durch den Fahrtwind aufgeblättert werden und dadurch beim Einstapeln gefaltet oder beschädigt werden.
