Description

The present invention relates to a protective housing for an internal combustion engine injection system for motor vehicles.

Injection systems of motor vehicles are generally mounted in the upper part of the engine, which comprises cylinders closed by a cylinder head. Each cylinder comprises a piston whose upper surface forms with the cylinder head a combustion chamber. The fuel is injected into the combustion chamber by means of injectors. The injection systems comprise an injection rail mounted on the engine cylinder head and located between an injection pump and the injectors. The injection rail is fed under high fuel pressure by the pump and is connected to the injectors by pipes. It thus constitutes a reserve of fuel under pressure and the injectors, at a frequency determined according to the speed of rotation of the engine, inject the fuel into the combustion chambers.

A disadvantage of these power systems resides in particular in the nature of the pipe connections, both on the injection rail and on the injectors. These connections are generally screwable and they present risks of leaks. Fuel from these leaks, whether liquid or vaporized, is likely to spill into the engine environment.

To prevent the projection of fuel due to leaks, it has been imagined, for example in the document EP 1 172 551 or the document EP 0 612 921 completely cover the injection system with a housing including the injectors, lines and the injection rail.

However, such a housing is very bulky and it is not suitable for engines where the injection is performed on the front for which the available space is reduced.

A problem that arises and that aims to solve the present invention, is then to provide a housing that avoids spraying fuel in the engine environment and is not too bulky.

For this purpose, the present invention proposes a protective case for an injection system of an internal combustion engine, said injection system comprising an injection ramp which is fed by a pump and which is connected by pipes. injectors mounted in a cylinder head of said engine, said housing / having a wall whose lower free edges are intended to seal said cylinder head, the case comprising a lower part adapted to form a recuperator and an upper part forming a lid and said wall extending between said injection rail and said cylinder head covering said pipes and said injectors.

Thus, a feature of the invention lies in the shape of the housing which no longer encompasses the injection rail as encompassed by the devices of the prior art, but whose wall extends between the injection rail and the breech. In this way, the injection ramp which, adjacent to the cylinder head occupies a smaller space since it is no longer covered, and the housing simply covers the pipes and injectors. Thanks to this more compact assembly, any leaks on the injection systems on the front of the engines are likely to be confined, which avoids the dispersion of fuel in the engine compartment.

In addition, it is easier to install on the engine; first install the lower part and the injection rail and then cover the recuperator with the lid.

Particularly advantageously, said recuperator is mounted floating bearing on said injection rail, so that it does not print any constraint to the injection system and the injection rail allows to maintain it relative to the cylinder head.

According to a particular characteristic of the invention, said lower part defines a first wall portion of said wall of said housing and has said lower free edges, and it extends between said injection rail and said cylinder head. Thus, during assembly, said lower part and said injection rail are adapted to be adjusted together before being mounted on the cylinder head, which makes assembly easier. Then the cover is him, adjusted without contact with the injection rail, directly by joining the cover and the cylinder head.

According to a preferred embodiment, said lower portion has through holes of said conduits and the edge of said through holes and said ramp are sealingly joined by a ramp joint. In this way, no fuel flow is possible between the lower part and the injection manifold from which the pipes open.

In addition, and particularly advantageously, said cover is removably mounted on said cylinder head and joins said recuperator tightly. Thus, the recuperator by sealingly sealing the periphery of the pipes on the injection rail, and the cover joining the cylinder head, the recuperator and the cover being hermetically connected together, the fuel from any leaks in the pipes is likely to be recovered.

According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, said cover and said recuperator are adapted to be connected together by snap-fastening, which makes it possible to prevent them from dissociating under the effect of vibrations or shocks and this , by means of a simple and reversible connection.

According to yet another embodiment of the invention said free bottom edges are equipped with a lip seal, which allows the recuperator to be driven in limited movement relative to the cylinder head on which it applies with said lip seal, without causing it to lose contact and therefore to maintain all the sealing of the recuperator on the cylinder head.

Furthermore, according to yet another particular embodiment, the housing comprises an evacuation pipette opening into a lower part. In this way, by means of a recovery duct connected to said discharge pipette, it is possible to channel and recover the leakage products to move them away from the engine.

  • la Figure 1 est une vue schématique de face d'un moteur à combustion interne en face avant et présentant un boîtier conforme à l'invention;
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the following description of a particular embodiment of the invention, given by way of indication but not limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • the Figure 1 is a schematic front view of an internal combustion engine on the front and having a housing according to the invention;
  • the Figure 2 is a schematic view in substantially vertical and longitudinal section of the engine illustrated on the Figure 1 ; and,
  • the Figure 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view according to section III-III illustrated on the Figure 2 .

The Figure 1 shows in front view the upper part of an internal combustion engine 10. This engine comprises an injection rail 12 which is mounted on a cylinder head 14 by two attachment points 16, 18. In addition, it comprises a housing 20 consists of two parts, a lower portion 22, forming a recuperator and an upper portion 24 forming a lid.

The lower portion 22 has a wall portion extending between the yoke 14 and the injection rail 12 and is covered by the cover 24.

We will refer to the Figure 3 to describe in more detail the housing 20 that is found consisting of its lower portion 22 and the lid 24. Also found on this Figure 3 the yoke 14 in which extends an injector 26, and the injection rail 12 which is mounted on the yoke 14 through the attachment point 16 which appears here.

En outre, la culasse 14 est recouverte d'un couvercle de culasse 28 qui s'étend vers l'arrière du moteur 10.In addition, the yoke 14 is covered with a cylinder head cover 28 which extends towards the rear of the engine 10.

The lower portion 22 has a free lower edge 30 which extends at a distance from a lower portion 31 of said yoke 14. A lip seal 32 is mounted on said bottom edge 30 and sealingly engages the yoke 14. lip of the lip seal 32 being elastically deformable, the seal is retained even when the recuperator 22 is driven in displacement, essentially between a close position and a position away from the cylinder head, obviously within certain limits.

Le bord de cet évidement 36 est muni d'un joint de récupérateur 38 qui s'applique de façon étanche autour du bossage 34,Furthermore, the yoke 14 has at least one boss 34 adapted to form the attachment point 16 and which passes through a recess 36 of the recuperator 22. The edge of this recess 36 is provided with a recuperator seal 38 which is applied from sealed way around the boss 34,

From the boss 34 the recuperator 22 has a portion 40 which extends substantially vertically behind the injection manifold 12, between it and the yoke 14 and which continues with a bearing portion 42, substantially perpendicular to said portion 40 The bearing portion 42 is applied to the injection rail 12 and is secured to it by unrepresented fastening clips.

In addition, the bearing portion 42 has a flange 44 adapted to cooperate with the cover 24 as will be described below.

La Figure 2 correspondant à la coupe selon le plan II-II illustré sur la Figure 3 et réciproquement, la Figure 3 correspondant à la coupe selon le plan III-III illustré sur la Figure 2.The cooperation of the support part 42 with the injection ramp 12 on which it is based will be described in advance, with reference to the Figure 3 and at the Figure 2 . The Figure 2 corresponding to the cut according to plan II-II illustrated on the Figure 3 and conversely, the Figure 3 corresponding to the section according to the plan III-III illustrated on the Figure 2 .

L'extrémité des conduites 46 est munie d'un épaulement contre lequel ladite bague 52 est adaptée à prendre appui pour maintenir à force ladite extrémité dans l'embout 50 de la rampe d'injection 12.Indeed, first conduits 46 for connecting the injectors 26 to the injection manifold 12 are connected to the latter by means of connectors 48, four in number on the Figure 2 . The connections are made by means of a tip 50 projecting vertically above the injection rail, which end has a peripheral thread on which a ring 52 is adapted to be screwed. The end of the pipes 46 is provided with a shoulder against which said ring 52 is adapted to bear in order to maintain by force said end in the end piece 50 of the injection rail 12.

The bearing portion 42 has passage holes of the pipes 46 whose edges 54 are adapted to be applied in the periphery of the end pieces 50 against the injection ramp 12 and sealingly through a ramp joint 56 Advantageously, the ramp seal is made in one piece and it extends over the entire length of the support portion 42 which it follows along the recuperator 22 and holes are provided for each endpiece 50.

A central feed nozzle 57, appearing on the Figure 2 , is provided projecting from the injection manifold 12 and is intended to receive a feed conduit from an injection pump not shown, and external to the housing 20. To do this, the cover 24 presented a portion recessed not shown and pierced, whose edge is sealingly applied around the central nozzle 57. The central nozzle 57 is thus connected to the supply line outside said housing 20 with means similar to those of other conduits.

Furthermore, the cover 24 has a second free edge 58 which is applied on the side of the front face, longitudinally against the flange 44 in a sealed manner with a first cover gasket 60 and the side of the rear face against the head cover 28, sealingly with a second cover seal 62. Conveniently, said second free edge is provided with a single continuous cover seal, which is wedged between the cover 24 and the recuperator 22 substantially for half , including two portions of unrepresented side edges where the rim 44 and the yoke meet, and between the cover 24 and the bolt cover 28 for the other half including the other two side edge portions.

In this way, on the one hand, the recuperator 22 completely and sealingly isolates the injection ramp 12 from the cylinder head 14 and, on the other hand, the lid 24 completely and also tightly covers the pipes 46 between the rim. 44 and the bolt cover 28. Thus, any fuel leakage at the lines 46 and particularly at the connectors 48 is circumscribed within the housing.

In addition, the cover 24 is mounted in a fixed position on the bolt cover 28 by screws not shown while the second free edge 58 is provided with lugs 64 also appearing on the Figure 1 , adapted to be engaged in the slots 66 of resilient tabs 68. Thus, the cover 24 and the recuperator 22 are integral with each other and they are adapted to be easily connected to one another.

Moreover, on this Figure 1 , there is shown a discharge pipette 70 in a lower side of the recuperator 22 and which opens inside the housing 20 more precisely between the wall of the collector 22 and the cylinder head wall. With this discharge pipette 70, the fuel that escapes from the pipes in liquid form or is vaporized, is likely to be recovered. Given the watertightness that remains between the housing 20 as a whole and the cylinder head 14 any fuel projection due to leaks is on the one hand contained inside the housing 20 and on the other hand likely to be channeled and away from the hot parts of the engine.
