Abstract
Verfahren zur Emulsionspolymerisation von einem oder mehreren Olefinen durch die Umsetzung einer chinoiden Verbindung mit einer Metallverbindung und einer Phosphinverbindung, welche mit wenigstens einem polaren Rest substituiert ist und nachfolgendem Einsatz des Umsetzungsproduktes zur Polymerisation oder Copolymerisation von Olefinen in Wasser oder in einem Lösemittelgemisch, das wenigstens 50 Gew.-% Wasser und wenigstens einen Emulgator enthält.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Emulsionspolymerisation von einem oder mehreren Olefinen durch die Umsetzung einer chinoiden Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel la oder Ib oder eines Gemisches von mindestens zwei der Verbindungen la oder Ib
la Ib wobei R jeweils einen oder mehrere der nachstehenden Reste bedeuten:

C6-C14- Arylgruppen, unsubstituiert oder substituiert durch: Cϊ-Cir-Alkylgruppen, Halogene, Cι-C 2-Alkoxygruppen, C3-C12-Cycloalkylgruppen, Cι-C12-Thioethergruppen, gegebenenfalls auch in Form ihrer Salze vorliegende Carboxygruppen oder Sulfogruppen, sowie Aminogruppen mit Wasserstoff und/oder C1-C12-Alkylresten,

Auf eine Isolierung und Reinigung des in situ gebildeten Komplexes (Umsetzungsprodukt aus Metallverbindung, Phosphinverbindung und chinoider Verbindung) wird ver- ziehtet.
Für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren wird optional ein Aktivator eingesetzt. Weiterhin betrifft diese Erfindung Dispersionen von Polyolefinen wie beispielsweise Polyethylen und Ethylencopolymerisaten in Wasser und die Verwendung der erfindungsgemäßen wässrigen Dispersionen in Papieranwendungen, Textil- und Lederapplikationen, zur Herstellung von Formschäumen, Teppichbodenbeschichtungen und pharmazeutischen Zubereitungen sowie als Komponente in Klebstoffen, Dichtmassen, Kunststoff putzen, Beschichtungs- und Anstrichmitteln.
Wässrige Dispersionen von Polymerisaten werden in zahlreichen sehr unterschiedlichen Anwendungen kommerziell verwertet. Zu nennen sind beispielsweise Papieranwendungen (Streicherei und Oberflächenleimung), Rohstoffe für Anstrich und Lacke, Klebrohstoffe (u.a. Haftklebstoffe), Textil- und Lederapplikationen, in der Bauchemie, Formschäume (Matratzen, Teppichrückenbeschichtungen) sowie für medizinische und pharmazeutische Produkte, beispielsweise als Bindemittel für Präparate. Eine Zusammenfassung findet sich in D. Distler (Herausgeber) "Wäßrige Polymerdispersionen", Wiley-VCH Verlag, 1. Auflage, 1999.
Bisher war es schwierig, wässrige Dispersionen von Polyolefinen herzustellen. Es wäre aber wünschenswert, derartige wässrige Dispersionen von Polyolefinen bereitstellen zu können, weil die Monomere wie Ethylen oder Propylen unter wirtschaftlichen Aspekten sehr vorteilhaft sind.
Die gängigen Verfahren zur Herstellung derartiger wässriger Dispersionen aus den entsprechenden Olefinen bedienen sich entweder der radikalischen Hochdruckpolymerisation oder aber der Herstellung von Sekundärdispersionen.
Diese Verfahren sind mit Nachteilen behaftet. Die radikalischen Polymerisationsverfahren erfordern extrem hohe Drücke, sie sind in technischem Maßstab auf Ethylen und Ethyiencopolymerisate beschränkt, und die erforderlichen Apparaturen sind sehr teuer in Anschaffung und Wartung. Eine andere Möglichkeit besteht darin, zunächst Ethylen in einem beliebigen Verfahren zu polymerisieren und anschließend eine Sekundärdis-
persion herzustellen, wie in US-A 5,574,091 beschrieben. Diese Methode ist ein Mehrstufenverfahren und somit sehr aufwendig.
Es ist deshalb wünschenswert, Olefine wie beispielsweise Ethylen oder Propylen unter den Bedingungen der Emulsionspolymerisation zu polymerisieren und die geforderte Dispersion in einem Schritt aus dem entsprechenden Olefin herzustellen. Außerdem haben Emulsionspolymerisationsverfahren ganz allgemein den Vorteil, dass sie Polymerisate mit hohen Molmassen liefern, wobei die Wärmeabfuhr verfahrensbedingt gut im Griff ist. Schließlich sind Reaktionen in wässrigen Systemen ganz allgemein des- halb interessant, weil Wasser ein billiges und umweltfreundliches Reaktionsmedium ist.
Bisher vorgestellte Verfahren für die Emulsionspolymerisation von Olefinen wie Ethylen oder Propylen sind noch zu verbessern. Das Problem liegt im Allgemeinen im für die Polymerisation dieser Olefine erforderlichen Katalysator.
Aufgrund der großen kommerziellen Bedeutung von Polyolefinen ist die Suche nach verbesserten Verfahren zur Polymerisation auch weiterhin von großer Bedeutung.
Einen guten Überblick über den Stand der Technik zur Polymerisation von Olefinen in wässrigem Medium, insbesondere unter Verwendung in situ-hergestellter Polymerisationskatalysatoren, gibt die von der Anmelderin beim Deutschen Patent- und Markenamt eingereichte, nicht vorveröffentlichte Patentanmeldung mit der Anmeldenummer 10234005.6. Gegenstand dieser Anmeldung, auf weiche hiermit ausdrücklich Bezug genommen wird, ist die breite Verwendung von speziellen chinoiden Verbindungen, üblichen Phosphin- oder Diphosphinverbindungen und speziellen Übergangsmetallverbindungen zur in situ-Herstellung von Polymerisationskatalysatoren und deren Verwendung bei der Polymerisation von Olefinen in wässrigem Medium. Die in der Beschreibung als bevorzugt genannten und in den Beispielen verwendeten in situ- Katalysatoren wurden unter Verwendung von 2,3,5,6-Tetrachloro-para-benzochinon oder 2,3,5,6-Tetrabromo-para-benzochinon sowie Triphenylphosphin als Ligandenver- bindung hergestellt. Allerdings vermag die Verwendung von sehr schlecht wasserlöslichen organischen Lösungsmitteln, wie beispielsweise Hexadecan, bei der Herstellung der in situ-Katalysatoren nicht voll zu befriedigen. Ebenfalls nicht zu befriedigen vermag, dass die als organische Lösungen vorliegenden in situ-Katalysatoren vor dem Inkontaktbringen mit dem Olefin einer Behandlung unterzogen werden, welche diese organischen Katalysatorenlösungen in sogenannte Öl in Wasser-Miniemulsionen überführt.
Es bestand deshalb die Aufgabe, ein verbessertes Verfahren bereitzustellen, welches auch ohne die schlecht wasserlöslichen organischen Lösungsmittel und ohne die Bereitstellung von Öl in Wasser-Katalysatorminiemulsionen wässrige Polymerisatdispersionen mit guten Polymerisatfeststoffgehalten liefert.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass diese Aufgabe durch das eingangs definierte Verfahren gelöst wird.
Als geeignete Olefine zur Polymerisation seien genannt: Ethylen, Propylen, 1 -Buten, 1- Penten, 1-Hexen, 1-Hepten, 1-Octen, 1-Decen und 1-Eicosen, aber auch verzweigte Olefine wie 4-Methyl-1-Penten, Vinylcyclohexen und Vinylcyclohexan sowie Styrol, para-Methylstyrol und para-Vinylpyridin, wobei Ethylen und Propylen bevorzugt sind. Besonders bevorzugt ist Ethylen.
Neben einem der vorgenannten Hauptolefine kann im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren noch wenigstens ein weiteres Olefin als Coolefin zur Polymerisation eingesetzt werden, wobei das wenigstens eine Coolefin aus folgenden Gruppen gewählt werden kann:
- Ethylen sowie 1-Olefine wie Propylen, 1-Buten, 1-Penten, 1-Hexen, 1-Hepten, 1- Octen, 1-Decen und 1-Eicosen, aber auch verzweigte Olefine wie 4-Methyl-1- penten, Vinylcyclohexen und Vinylcyclohexan sowie Styrol, para-Methylstyrol und para-Vinylpyridin, wobei Propylen, 1 -Buten, 1-Penten, 1 -Hexen, 1-Hepten, 1- Octen, 1-Decen bevorzugt sind; - interne Olefine wie Norbomen, Norbornadien oder eis- oder trans-2-Buten, Cyc- lopenten; polare Olefine wie Acrylsäure, Acrylsäure-Ci-Cβ-alkylester, 2- Hydroxyethylacrylat, 3-Hydroxypropylacrylat, 4-Hydroxybutylacrylat, Methacryl- säure, Methacrylsäure-Cι-C8-aIkylester, d-Cβ-Alkyl-Vinylether und Vinylacetat sowie Siloxyverbindungen wie [3-(Trimethoxysilyl)butyl]methacrylat, [3- (Triphenoxysilyl)butyl]methacrylat, Vinyltrimethoxysilan, Vinyltriethoxysilan oder Vinyltriphenoxysilan; bevorzugt sind Acrylsäure, Acrylsäuremethylester, Acryl- säureethylester, Acrylsäure-n-butylester, 2-Ethylhexylacrylat, 2- Hydroxyethylacrylat, Methylmethacrylat, Ethylmethacrylat, n-Butylmethacrylat, Ethylvinylether und Vinylacetat.
Dabei lässt sich das Verhältnis des Hauptolefins zu dem wenigstens einen Coolefin frei wählen, wobei das Hauptolefin im zu polymerisierenden Gemisch zu > 50 mol-% eingesetzt wird und die Gesamtmenge des wenigstens einen Coolefins < 50 mol-% be- trägt. Häufig wird jedoch lediglich ein Hauptolefin zur Polymerisation eingesetzt. Bei Verwendung von wenigstens einem Coolefin beträgt die Coolefingesamtmenge oft < 40 mol.-%, < 30 mol.-%, < 20 mol.-% oder < 10 mol.-% sowie > 0,1 mol-%, > 0,5 mol- %, > 1 mol-%, > 5 mol-% oder > 10 mol-% und alle Werte dazwischen.
Von Bedeutung ist, dass zur erfindungsgemäßen Polymerisation häufig Olefingemi- sche eingesetzt werden, wobei wenigstens eines der eingesetzten Olefine Ethylen ist.
Oft ist Ethylen das Hauptolefin und das Coolefin ist ausgewählt aus der Gruppe umfassend Propylen, 1-Buten, 1-Hexen oder Styrol.
Es ist aber auch möglich, zur Polymerisation lediglich ein Olefin einzusetzen. Hierzu werden insbesondere Ethylen, Propylen, 1 -Buten, 1-Penten, 1 -Hexen, 1-Hepten, 1- Octen, 1-Decen oder 1-Eicosen eingesetzt, aber auch verzweigte Olefine wie 4-Methyl- 1-Penten, Vinylcyclohexen und Vinylcyclohexan sowie Styrol, para-Methylstyrol und para-Vinylpyridin, wobei jedoch Ethylen und Propylen bevorzugt sind. Besonders bevorzugt ist Ethylen.
In den chinoiden Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel la und Ib sind die Reste wie folgt definiert:

Aminogruppen NR1R2, wobei R1 und R2 gemeinsam oder getrennt stehen für Wasserstoff, Cι-C 2-Alkylgruppen, C^C^-Aralkylreste und C6-C14-Arylgruppen (jeweils wie obenstehend definiert) und zusätzlich auch einen gesättigten oder ungesättigten 5- bis 10-gliedrigen Ring bilden können, bevorzugt sind dabei die Dimethylamino-, die Diethylamino-, die Diisopropylamino- und die Methylpheny- laminogruppe. Beispiele für Aminogruppen mit gesättigten Ringen sind die N- Piperidylgruppe und die N-Pyrrolidinylgruppe; Beispiele für Aminogruppen mit ungesättigten Ringen sind N-Pyrrylgruppe, die N-Indolylgruppe und die N- Carbazolylgruppe.
Die vorstehend genannten d-C^-Alkylgruppen, C-ι-C12-Alkoxygruppen, Cτ-C15- Aralkylgruppen, C6-C1 -Arylgruppen und Aminogruppen NR1R2 können am chinoiden Grundgerüst der Formeln la und Ib jeweils unsubstituiert vorliegen. Sie können auch selbst zusätzlich noch einen oder auch mehrere der nachfolgenden Substituenten am eigenen Molekulargerüst aufweisen:

Die Synthese der chinoiden Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formeln la und Ib ist an sich bekannt. Synthesevorschriften für solche Verbindungen finden sich u.a. in der DE- A 2923206, der EP-A 046331 , der EP-A 046328 oder der EP-A 052929.
Die Verbindungen la und Ib können in Gemischen in Verhältnissen von 0 : 100 bis 100 : 0 moI-% eingesetzt werden. Bevorzugte Ausführungsformen sind 0 : 100 mol-%, 10 : 90 mol-%, 50 : 50 mol-%, 90 : 10 mol-% und 100 : 0 mol-% und alle Werte dazwischen.
Die chinoiden Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel la und Ib sowie die Metallverbindung der allgemeinen Formel M(L2)2, M(L2)2(L1)21 oder M(L1)z2 werden mit einer Phosphinverbindung III der allgemeinen Formel (R')aPH3-a vereinigt, wobei R' für eine Cι-Cι2-Alkylgruppe, C3-C 2-Cycloalkylgruppe, Cτ-C15-Aralkylgruppe oder C6-C1 - Arylgruppe steht, welche mit wenigstens einem polaren Rest P substituiert ist, wobei der polare Rest P ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe umfassend

Die chinoiden Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel la und Ib sowie die Metallverbindung der allgemeinen Formel M(L2)2, M(L2)2(L1)z1 oder M(L1)z2 können auch mit einer Diphosphinverbindung VIII der allgemeinen Formel (R')bPH2-b-G-PR2" vereinigt werden, wobei R" für Wasserstoff steht oder die gleiche Bedeutung hat wie R', G für eine Cι-C12-Alkylengruppe, C3-C12-Cycloalkylengruppen, Cτ-Ci5-Aralkylengruppen oder C6-C1 -Arylengruppen, und b für 1 oder 2 steht. Bei den Alkylen-, Cycloalkylen-, Aral- kylen- oder Arylengruppen handelt es sich um zweibindige funktioneile Gruppen, welche sich von den entsprechenden vorgenannten Alkyl-, Cycloalkyl-, Aralkyl- oder A- rylgruppen ableiten.
Selbstverständlich können auch Gemische der Phosphinverbindungen III und VIII mit den Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel la und Ib sowie die Metallverbindung der allgemeinen Formel M(L2)2, M(L2)2(L )z1 oder M(L1)z2 vereinigt werden.

Das molare Verhältnis zwischen Verbindung la und Ib einerseits und Phosphinverbindung IM bzw. VIII andererseits beträgt 1 : 1000 bis 1000 : 1, häufig 1 : 10 bis 10 : 1, oft 1 : 2 bis 2 : 1.
Phosphinverbindungen III bzw. VIII können nach üblichen Synthesen der organischen Chemie hergestellt werden [ siehe hierzu beispielsweise Aqueous-Phase Organometal- lic Chemistry, B. Cornils, W.A. Die chinoiden Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel la oder Ib werden neben einer der Phosphinverbindungen III oder VIII auch mit einer oder mehreren Metallverbindungen der Formel M(L2)2, M(L2)2(L1)z1 oder M(L1)z2 vereinigt. Dabei sind die Variablen wie folgt definiert:
L1 wird gewählt aus Phosphanen der Formel (R5)XPH3-X oder Aminen der Formel (R5)χNH3-x, wobei x eine ganze Zahl zwischen 0 und 3 bedeutet. Aber auch Ether (R5)2O wie Diethylether oder Tetrahydrofuran, Wasser, Alkohole (R5)OH wie Methanol oder Ethanol, Pyridin, Pyridinderivate der Formel C5H5-X(R5)XN, wie beispielsweise 2-Picolin, 3-Picolin, 4-Picolin, 2,3-Lutidin, 2,4-Lutidin, 2,5-Lutidin, 2,6-Lutidin oder 3,5-Lutidin, Kohlenmonoxid, Cι-Cι2-Alkylnitrile oder C6-C14- Arylnitrile sind geeignet, wie Acetonitril, Propionitril, Butyronitril oder Benzonitril. Weiterhin können einfach oder mehrfach ethylenisch ungesättigte Doppelbindungssysteme als Ligand dienen, wie Ethen, Propen, cis-2-Buten, trans-2-Buten, Cyclohexen , Norbornen aber auch deren entsprechende Reste. Häufig werden 1,5-Cyclooctadien ("COD"), 1 ,6-Cyclodecadien oder 1 ,5,9-all-trans- Cyclododecatrien eingesetzt.
R5 wird ausgewählt aus Wasserstoff, C1-C12-Alkylgruppen, die ihrerseits mit O(d- Ce-Alkyl) oder N(C1-C6-Alkyl)2-Gruppen substituiert sein können, C3-C12- Cycloalkylgruppen, d-Cis-Aralkylresten und C6-C1 -Arylgruppen, wobei spe- zielle Beispiele dieser Gruppen bei der Definition des Restes R zu finden sind.
L2 wird ausgewählt aus Halogenidionen wie Fluorid, Chlorid, Bromid, oder lodid, bevorzugt sind Chlorid und Bromid, - Amidanionen (R6)yNHΘ 2_y, wobei y eine ganze Zahl von 0, 1 oder 2 bedeutet und R6 für d-C12-Alkyl steht, CrC6-Alkylanionen wie Methyl-, Ethyl-, n-Propyl-, iso-Propyl- n-Butyl-, tert.- Butyl- oder n-Hexylanionen Allylanionen oder Methallylanionen, - Benzyl anionen oder Arylanϊonen wie Phenylanion.
M ein Übergangsmetall der Gruppen 7 bis 10 des Periodensystems der Elemente; bevorzugt sind Mangan, Eisen, Kobalt, Nickel oder Palladium und besonders be- vorzugt Nickel.
z1 ist eine ganze Zahl 1 , 2, 3 oder 4.
z2 ist eine ganze Zahl 1 , 2, 3, 4, 5 oder 6, oft 4 oder 6.
In einer besonderen Ausführungsform sind L1 und L2 miteinander durch eine oder meh- rere kovalente Bindungen verknüpft.
Als Metallverbindungen werden oft Olef inkomplexe des Nickels eingesetzt. Eine bevorzugte Metallverbindung ist Ni(COD)2.
Die Bedingungen zur Umsetzung der Verbindungen der Formel la und Ib mit der Metallverbindung und wenigstens einer der Phosphinverbindungen III oder VIII sind an sich unkritisch. Gewöhnlich werden sie bei einer Temperatur von 0 bis 100 °C in einem Lösemittel umgesetzt, das aus aliphatischen oder aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen wie beispielsweise n-Heptan, Toluol, Ethylbenzol, o/fΛo-Xylol, mefa-Xylol oder para- Xylol ausgewählt werden kann. Auch Chlorbenzol ist als Lösemittel geeignet, weiterhin Ketone wie beispielsweise Aceton, nichtcyclische oder cyclische Ether wie beispielsweise Diethylether, Diisopropylether, 1,4-Dioxan oderTetrahydrofuran. Aber auch Wasser oder wasserlösliche Alkohole wie beispielsweise Methanol, Ethanol, n- Propanol, iso-Propanol oder n-Butanol können als Lösemittel bei der in situ- Katalysatorherstellung verwendet werden. Bevorzugt werden Wasser, wasserlösliche Alkohole oder Ketone, beispielsweise iso-Propanol oder Aceton verwendet.
Bevorzugt wird jedoch zuerst die chinoide Verbindung la oder Ib mit der Phosphinverbindung III oder VIII gemischt und anschließend mit der Metallverbindung zum in situ- Katalysator umgesetzt.
Als Molverhältnis von Metallverbindung zur Phosphinverbindung III haben sich Verhältnisse von 1 : 1000 bis 1000 : 1 bewährt, bevorzugt sind 1 : 10 bis 10 : 1 und besonders bevorzugt 1 : 2 bis 2 : 1. Wird eine Phosphinverbindung VIII eingesetzt, so beträgt das entsprechende Molverhältnis 1 : 500 bis 500 : 1 , bevorzugt sind 1 : 5 bis 5 : 1 und besonders bevorzugt 1 : 1.
Das Molverhältnis von Metallverbindung zur Verbindung la oder Ib beträgt ebenfalls 1 : 1000 bis 1000 : 1 , bevorzugt 1 : 10 bis 10 : 1, insbesondere 1 : 2 bis 2 : 1.
Dabei ist es möglich, die Metallverbindung mit den gewählten organischen chinoiden Verbindungen und der Phosphinverbindung außerhalb des Polymerisationsreaktors zur Reaktion zu bringen und die Reaktionslösung dann in den Polymerisationsreaktor zu geben.
Die Umsetzung von Metallverbindung, Phosphinverbindung und chinoider Verbindung kann auch innerhalb des Polymerisationsreaktors erfolgen, wobei es von Vorteil sein
kann, auch bereits andere Stoffe wie beispielsweise Emulgatoren oder weitere Lösungsmittel, zu polymerisierende Monomere sowie andere Hilfsstoffe wie beispielsweise Aktivatoren zuzusetzen.
Die Wahl der Reaktionsbedingungen hängt dabei jeweils von den eingesetzten Stoffen ab. Besonders bei wasserempfindlichen Vorstufen hat es sich als vorteilhaft erwiesen, die Vorstufen erst außerhalb des Polymerisationsreaktors zur Reaktion zu bringen und dann das Reaktionsprodukt in den Polymerisationsreaktor zu dosieren.
Dieses Vorgehen ist ebenfalls dann vorteilhaft, wenn sich die Vorstufen nicht vollständig im verwendeten Lösungsmittel lösen, wohl aber das Reaktionsprodukt.
Auf eine Isolierung und Reinigung der in situ gebildeten Komplexe (Umsetzungsprodukte aus Metallverbindung, Phosphinverbindung und chinoider Verbindung) wird ver- ziehtet.
Die in situ erzeugten Komplexe eignen sich vorzüglich zum Einsatz bei der Polymerisation oder Copolymerisation von Olefinen in Wasser oder in einem Lösemittelgemisch, das wenigstens 50 Gew.-% Wasser enthält. Die Polymerisation wird in Gegenwart ei- nes Emulgators und optional in Gegenwart eines Aktivators durchgeführt.
Häufig empfiehlt es sich, einen Aktivator zu verwenden, um die Aktivität des in situ- Komplexes zu erhöhen. Unter einem Aktivator werden im Rahmen dieser Schrift alle diejenigen Verbindungen verstanden, welche in der Lage sind, die Aktivität des in situ- Komplexes zu erhöhen.
Die Polymerisation der 1 -Olefine nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren kann in an sich bekannterWeise durchgeführt werden.
Dabei ist die Reihenfolge der Zugabe der Reagenzien bei der Polymerisation unkritisch. So kann zunächst gasförmiges Monomer auf das Lösemittel aufgepresst bzw. flüssiges Monomer zudosiert werden, und anschließend wird das Gemisch aus chinoider Verbindung, Phosphinverbindung und Metallverbindung zugegeben. Man kann aber auch das Gemisch aus chinoider Verbindung, Phosphinverbindung und Metall- Verbindung zunächst mit weiterem Lösemittel verdünnen und anschließend Monomer zugeben.
Gleichzeitig wird der Aktivator, sofern er notwendig ist, entweder direkt oder in einer zweiten Portion desselben Lösemittels oder aber in Aceton gelöst zugegeben.
Die eigentliche Polymerisation läuft üblicherweise bei einem Mindestdruck von 1 bar, unterhalb dieses Druckes ist die Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit zu gering. Bevorzugt
sind 2 bar und besonders bevorzugt ist ein Mindestdruck von 10 bar (jeweils Überdruck).
Als maximaler Druck sind 4000 bar zu nennen; bei höheren Drücken sind die Anforde- rungen an das Material des Polymerisationsreaktors sehr hoch, und der Prozess wird unwirtschaftlich. Bevorzugt sind < 100 bar und besonders bevorzugt sind < 50 bar.
Die Polymerisationstemperatur lässt sich in einem weiten Bereich variieren. Als Min- destternperatur sind > 10 °C zu nennen, da bei tiefen Temperaturen die Polymerisati- onsgeschwindigkeit zurückgeht. Bevorzugt ist eine Mindesttemperatur von > 40 °C oder > 65 °C. Als maximale sinnvolle Temperatur sind 350 °C zu nennen; bevorzugt sind < 150 °C oder < 100 °C.
Als organische Lösemittel im wässrigen Polymerisationsmedium eignen sich aromati- sehe Lösemittel wie Benzol, Toluol, Ethylbenzol, o/tr/o-Xylol, mefa-Xylol und para-Xylol sowie Mischungen derselben. Des weiteren eignen sich cyclische Ether wie Tetra- hydrofuran und Dioxan oder aeyclische Ether wie Diethylether, Di-n-butylether, Di- isopropylether oder 1 ,2-Dimethoxyethan. Auch Ketone wie Aceton, Methylethylketon oder Diisobutylketon sind geeignet, desgleichen Amide wie Dimethylformamid oder Dimethylacetamid, wasserlösliche Alkohole wie beispielsweise Methanol, Ethanol, n- Propanol, iso-Propanol oder n-Butanol sowie Gemische dieser Lösemittel.
Bevorzugt werden Aceton oder die wasserlöslichen Alkohole Methanol, Ethanol, n- Propanol, iso-Propanol oder n-Butanol als organische Lösemittel im wässrigen Polyme- risationsmedium eingesetzt, wobei das Mischungsverhältnis der organischen Lösemittel beliebig ist.
Die Menge des wässrigen Polymerisationsmediums ist ebenfalls unkritisch, es muss jedoch gewährleistet sein, dass sich der in situ gebildete Komplex und der Aktivator vollständig lösen können, andernfalls ist mit Aktivitätseinbußen zu rechnen. Der Lösungsvorgang kann gegebenenfalls durch Ultraschallbehandlung beschleunigt werden.
Der ebenfalls zuzugebende Emulgator kann entweder direkt oder auch zusammen mit der Lösung des in situ gebildeten Katalysatorkomplexes in das wässrige Polymerisati- onsmedium zugegeben werden.
Dabei wird die Menge des Emulgators so gewählt, dass das Massenverhältnis zwischen Monomer und Emulgator größer als 1 ist, bevorzugt größer als 10 und besonders bevorzugt größer als 20. Dabei ist es umso günstiger, je weniger Emulgator ver- wendet werden muss.
Durch die Zugabe des Emulgators wird sowohl die Polymerisationsgeschwindigkeit als auch die Stabilität der gebildeten wässrigen Polymerisatdispersionen erhöht. Der zugesetzte Emulgator kann nichtionischer oder ionischer Natur sein.
Gebräuchliche nichtionische Emulgatoren sind z.B. ethoxylierte Mono-, Di- und Tri- Alkylphenole (EO-Grad: 3 bis 50, Alkylrest: C4-C12) sowie ethoxylierte Fettalkohole (EO-Grad: 3 bis 80; Alkylrest: C8-C36). Beispiele hierfür sind die Lutensol®-Marken der BASF AG oder die Triton®-Marken der Union Carbide.
Übliche anionische Emulgatoren sind z.B. Alkalimetall- und Ammoniumsalze von Alkyl- sulfaten (Alkylrest: C8 bis C12), von Schwefelsäurehalbestern ethoxylierter Alkanole (EO-Grad: 4 bis 30, Alkylrest: C12-C18) und ethoxylierter Alkylphenole (EO-Grad: 3 bis 50, Alkylrest: C4-C12), von Alkylsulfonsäuren (Alkylrest: C12-C18) und von Alkylarylsul- fonsäuren (Alkylrest: C9-C18). Selbstverständlich können auch sulfonierte Alkyldiphenyl- ether, wie beispielsweise Dowfax® 2A1 (Marke der Dow Chemical Company) verwendet werden.
Geeignete kationische Emulgatoren sind in der Regel einen C6-C18-Alkyl-, -Aralkyl- oder heterocyclischen Rest aufweisende primäre, sekundäre, tertiäre oder quartäre Ammoniumsalze, Alkanolammoniumsalze, Pyridiniumsalze, Imidazoliniumsalze, Oxa- zoliniumsaize, Morpholiniumsalze, Thiazoliniumsalze sowie Salze von Aminoxiden, Chinoliniumsalze, Isochinoliniumsalze, Tropyliumsalze, Sulfoniumsalze und Phospho- niumsalze. Beispielhaft genannt seien Dodecylammoniumacetat oder das entsprechende Hydrochlorid, die Chloride oder Acetate der verschiedenen 2-(N,N,N- Trimethylammonium)ethylparaffinsäureester, N-Cetylpyridiniumchlorid, N-
Lauryipyridiniumsulfat sowie N-Cetyl-N,N,N-trimethylammoniumbromid, N-Dodecyl- N,N,N-trimethylammoniumbromid, N,N-Distearyl-N,N-dimethylammoniumchlorid sowie das Gemini-Tensid N,N'-(LauryldimethyI)ethylendiamindibromid. Zahlreiche weitere Beispiele finden sich in H. Stäche, Tensid-Taschenbuch, Carl-Hanser-Verlag, Mün- chen, Wien, 1981 und in McCutcheon's, Emulsifiers & Detergents, MC Publishing Company, Glen Rock, 1989.
Bevorzugt werden nichtionische und anionische Emulgatoren und insbesondere anionische Emulgatoren für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren eingesetzt
Als Polymerisationsreaktor haben sich gerührte Kessel und Autoklaven sowie Rohrreaktoren als brauchbar erwiesen, wobei die Rohrreaktoren als Schlaufenreaktor ausgeführt werden können.
Das oder die zu polymerisierenden Olefine werden in dem wässrigen Polymerisationsmedium gemischt. Dabei können als Polymerisationsmedium Wasser oder Gemische von Wasser mit den oben aufgeführten Lösemitteln verwendet werden.
Es ist jedoch zu beachten, dass der Anteil an Wasser wenigstens 50 Gew.-%, bevorzugt wenigstens 90 Gew.-% und besonders bevorzugt wenigstens 95 Gew.-%, jeweils bezogen auf das Gesamtpolymerisationsmedium, gebildet aus organischem Lösemit- tel, entionisiertem Wasser, chinoiden Verbindungen, Phosphin- und Metallverbindungen, Emulgatoren sowie ggf. weiteren Hilfsstoffen, beträgt.
Die Lösungen des in situ erzeugten Komplexes, des Emulgators sowie gegebenenfalls des Aktivators werden mit dem Gemisch aus Monomer und wässrigem Polymerisati- onsmedium vereinigt. Die Reihenfolge der Zugabe der verschiedenen Komponenten ist an sich unkritisch. Es ist jedoch erforderlich, dass die Vereinigung der Komponenten so schnell erfolgt, dass keine Kristallisation von intermediär eventuell auftretenden schwer löslichen Komplexverbindungen erfolgt.
Das Molverhältnis der Metallverbindung der Formel M(L2)2, M(L2)2(L1)z1 oder M(L1)z2 zum eingesetzten Olefin beträgt 1 : > 100, 1 : > 1000, 1 : > 10000 oder 1 : > 100000 und alle Werte dazwischen. Abhängig von der Reaktivität des in situ gebildeten Komplexes kann das Verhältnis Olefin/Metallverbindung auch noch höhere Werte aufweisen.
Als Polymerisationsverfahren sind grundsätzlich kontinuierliche und diskontinuierliche Verfahren geeignet. Bevorzugt sind halbkontinuierliche Verfahren (Semi-batch- Verfahren), in denen nach Vermischen aller Komponenten Olefin oder Olefingemische im Verlauf der Polymerisation nachdosiert werden.
Nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren werden zunächst wässrige Polymerisatdispersionen erhalten. Oft weisen diese wässrigen Polymerisatdispersionen Feststoffgehalte > 10 Gew.-%, > 20 Gew.-% oder sogar > 30 Gew.-% auf.
Die mittleren Teilchendurchmesser der Polymerisatpartikel in den erfindungsgemäßen Dispersionen betragen zwischen 1 und 1000 nm, bevorzugt zwischen 10 und 500 nm und besonders bevorzugt zwischen 10 und 200 nm. Die Verteilung der Teilchendurchmesser kann, rnuss aber nicht sehr einheitlich sein. Für manche Anwendungen, insbesondere für solche mit hohen Feststoffanteilen (> 55 Gew.-%), sind breite oder bimoda- le Verteilungen sogar bevorzugt. Die Teilchendurchmesser lassen sich beispielsweise nach Lichtstreumethoden bestimmen. Einen Überblick findet man in D. Distler (Herausgeber) "Wässrige Polymerdispersionen", Wiley-VCH Verlag, 1. Auflage, 1999, Kapitel 4.
Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren erhaltenen Polymerisate weisen technisch interessante Eigenschaften auf. Im Falle von Polyethylen können sie einen hohen Grad der Kristallinität aufweisen, was beispielsweise durch die Anzahl der Ver-
gungen, bevorzugt weniger als 20 Verzweigungen pro 1000 C-Atomen des Polymerisats und besonders bevorzugt weniger als 10 Verzweigungen, bestimmt durch 1H- NMR und 13C-NMR-Spektroskopie.
Die Molekulargewichtsverteilungen der nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren erhältlichen Polyolefine, d.h. die Q-Werte (Mw/Mn) liegen zwischen 1,0 und 50 und bevorzugt zwischen 1 ,5 und 10. Die Molmassen der erhaltenen Polyolefine liegen im Bereich von 500 bis 1000000, oft im Bereich von 1000 bis 50000 oder im Bereich von 1000 bis 10000 (Zahlensmittel).
Von Bedeutung ist auch, dass die erhaltenen Polymerisatteilchen unterschiedliche Teilchenmorphologien aufweisen können. So sind insbesondere beispielsweise kugelförmige (x-Achse = y-Achse = z-Achse), linsenförmige (y-Achse < x-Achse und z- Achse; x-Achse ~ z-Achse), stäbchenförmige (y-Achse und z-Achse < x-Achse; y- Achse ~ z-Achse) und im Falle von Polyethylen auch plättchenförmige Polymerisatteilchen zugänglich.
Vorteilhaft an den erfindungsgemäßen Dispersionen ist neben dem günstigen Preis aufgrund der billigen olefinischen Ausgangsprodukte sowie des einfachen Verfahrens, dass sie witterungsstabiler als Dispersionen von Polybutadien oder Butadiencopoiyme- risaten sind. Gegenüber Dispersionen von Polymerisaten mit Acrylaten oder Methacry- laten als Hauptmonomer ist die geringere Neigung zum Verseifen als vorteilhaft zu nennen. Weiterhin ist von Vorteil, dass die meisten Olefine leichtflüchtig sind und sich nicht polymerisierte Restolefinmengen leicht entfernen lassen. Schließlich ist von Vor- teil, dass während der Polymerisation keine Molmassenregler wie beispielsweise tert- Dodecylmercaptan zugegeben werden müssen, die einerseits schlecht abgetrennt werden können und andererseits unangenehm riechen. Weiterhin ist es günstig, dass die aus dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren erhaltenen wässrigen Dispersionen relativ hohe Feststoffgehalte aufweisen.
Von Bedeutung ist ferner, dass sich das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren im Gegensatz zu allen bekannten Emulsionspolymerisationsverfahren insbesondere zur Herstellung von wässrigen Polymerisatdispersionen sehr kleiner Polyethylenteilchen eignet. Die geringen Teilchengrößen bewirken eine vollständige oder annähernd vollständige Transparenz der wässrigen Polymerisatdispersionen.
Aus den zunächst erhaltenen wässrigen Dispersionen lassen sich durch Entfernen des Wassers und gegebenenfalls des oder der organischen Lösemittel die Polymerisatpartikel erhalten. Zur Entfernung des Wassers und gegebenenfalls des oder der organi- sehen Lösemittel sind zahlreiche gängigen Verfahren geeignet, beispielsweise Gefriertrocknen, Sprühtrocknen oder Verdampfen. Die so erhaltenen Polymerisatpartikel haben eine gute Morphologie und eine hohe Schüttdichte.
Die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen lassen sich in zahlreichen Anwendungen vorteilhaft verwenden, wie beispielsweise Papieranwendungen wie Papier- streicherei oder Oberflächenleimung, weiterhin Anstrichen und Lacken, Bauchemika- lien, Klebrohstoffe, Formschäume, Textil- und Lederapplikationen, Teppichrückenbe- schichtungen, Matratzen oder pharmazeutischen Anwendungen.
Unter Papierstreicherei versteht man das Beschichten der Papieroberfläche mit wässrigen pigmentierten Dispersionen. Dabei sind die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dis- persionen aufgrund ihres günstigen Preises vorteilhaft. Unter Oberflächenleimung versteht man das pigmentfreie Auftragen von hydrophobierenden Substanzen. Dabei sind gerade die bisher unter wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen nur schwer zugänglichen Polyo- lefindispersionen als besonders hydrophobe Substanz von Vorteil. Weiterhin ist von Vorteil, dass während der erfindungsgemäßen Herstellung der Dispersionen für Pa- pierstreicherei oder Oberflächenleimung keine Molmassenregler wie beispielsweise tert-Dodecylmercaptan zugegeben werde müssen, die einerseits schlecht abgetrennt werden können und andererseits unangenehm riechen.
In Anstrichen und Lacken sind die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen be- sonders geeignet, weil sie preislich sehr günstig sind. Besonders vorteilhaft sind wässrige Polyethylendispersionen, weil sie weiterhin auch eine besondere UV-Stabilität aufweisen. Weiterhin sind wässrige Polyethylendispersionen besonders geeignet, weil sie gegenüber basischen Chemikalien, die in der Bauchemie üblich sind, beständig sind.
In Klebstoffen, insbesondere in Klebstoffen für selbstklebende Etiketten oder Folien sowie Pflastern, aber auch in Bauklebstoffen oder Industrieklebstoffen, haben die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen wirtschaftliche Vorteile. Insbesondere in Bauklebstoffen sind sie besonders günstig, weil sie gegenüber basischen Chemikalien, die in der Bauchemie üblich sind, beständig sind.
In Formschäumen, die sich aus den erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen durch an sich bekannte Verfahren wie das Dunlop-Verfahren oder das Talalay- Verfahren herstellen lassen, ist wiederum der günstige Preis der erfindungsgemäßen Dispersionen vorteilhaft. Als weitere Komponenten dienen Geliermittel, Seifen, Verdicker und Vulkanisationspasten. Formschäume werden beispielsweise zu Matratzen verarbeitet.
Textil- und Lederapplikationen dienen zur Haltbarmachung und Veredlung von Textil oder Leder. Unter den Effekten sind die Imprägnierung sowie die weitere Ausrüstung der Textilien beispielhaft zu nennen. Vorteilhaft an den erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen als Bestandteil in Textil- und Lederapplikationen ist neben dem günstigen
Preis die Geruchsfreiheit, da sich die Restolefinmengen in den wässrigen Dispersionen leicht entfernen lassen.
Teppichrückenbeschichtungen dienen zum Verkleben der Teppichfasern auf dem Rü- cken, weiterhin haben sie die Aufgabe, dem Teppich die nötige Steifigkeit zu geben sowie Additive wie beispielsweise Flammschutzmittel oder Antistatika gleichmäßig zu verteilen. Vorteilhaft an den erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen ist neben dem günstigen Preis die Unempfindlichkeit gegenüber den gängigen Additiven. Insbesondere Polyethylendispersionen haben sich als chemisch besonders inert erwiesen. Schließlich ist von Vorteil, dass während der erfindungsgemäßen Herstellung der Dispersionen für Teppichrückenbeschichtungen keine Molmassenregler wie beispielsweise tert.-Dodecylmercaptan zugegeben werden müssen, welche welche die vorgenannten Nachteile aufweisen.
Unter pharmazeutischen Zubereitungen werden Dispersionen als Träger von Medikamenten verstanden. Dispersionen als Träger von Medikamenten sind an sich bekannt. Vorteilhaft an den erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Dispersionen als Träger von Medikamenten ist der wirtschaftlich günstige Preis und die Beständigkeit gegen Körpereinflüsse wie Magensaft oder Enzyme.
Arbeitsbeispiele
Allgemeines: Die Synthesen wurden, wenn nicht anders beschrieben, nach der Schlenk-Technik unter Luft- und Feuchtigkeitsausschluss unter Argonatmosphäre durchgeführt.
Die Bestimmung der Molmassen der erhaltenen Polymerisaten wurde mittels GPC durchgeführt. In Anlehnung an DIN 55672 wurden die folgenden Bedingungen gewählt: Lösemittel 1,2,4-Trichlorbenzol, Fluss: 1 ml/min; Temperatur 140 °C. Es wurde an ei- nem Waters 150C-Gerät gemessen, das mit Polyethylen-Standards kalibriert worden war.
Die Ermittlung des Feststoffgehaltes erfolgte durch Ausfällen des Polyethylens mit Methanol.
Beispiel
24,5 mg (100 //mol) 2,3,5,6-Tetrachloro-para-benzochinon (Ia1) und 38 mg (100μmol) Kaliumsalz der 4-(Diphenylphosphino)benzolsulfonsäure wurden bei 20 bis 25 °C (Raumtemperatur) in einem Schlenk-Kolben in 10 ml wasserfreiem und entgastem iso- Propanol unter Rühren und Argon-Schutzgasatmosphäre gelöst, wobei sich die Lösung orange färbte. Diese Lösung überführte man unter Argonatmosphäre in einen anderen
Schlenk-Kolben, welcher 30,3 mg (110 mol) Nickel(1,5-cyclooctadien)2 [Ni(COD)2] enthielt und rührte 20 Minuten.
In der Zwischenzeit wurde eine Lösung aus 1 g Natriumdodecylsulfat (SDS) in 90 ml entgastem und entionisiertem Wasser hergestellt. Diese Lösung wurde bei Raumtemperatur unter Argonatmosphäre in einen 300 mi-Druckreaktor gegeben. Unter Rühren (1000 Umdrehungen pro Minute) wurde die isopropanolische Lösung des in situ hergestellten Katalysators ebenfalls dem Reaktor zugeführt. Anschließend wurde in den Reaktor Ethylen bis zu einem Druck von 40 bar (Überdruck) aufgepresst. Danach wurde der flüssige Reaktorinhalt unter Rühren auf 70 °C erhitzt und 2 Stunden bei dieser Temperatur belassen. Anschließend wurde der Reaktorinhalt auf Raumtemperatur abgekühlt und auf Atmosphärendruck entspannt. Die erhaltene Polymerisatdispersion zeigte lediglich eine schwache Trübung.
40 g der erhaltenen wässrigen Polymerisatdispersion wurden unter Rühren mit 60 g Methanol versetzt, wobei 5,32 g Polyethylen (entsprechend einem Polymerisatfeststoffgehalt von13,3 Gew.-%) ausfielen. Das Polymerisat wies ein zahlenmittleres Molekulargewicht von ca. 6000 g/mol und ein gewichtsmittleres Molekulargewicht von ca. 32400 auf. Der Schmelzpunkt des Polyethylens betrug 129 °C.
Vergleichsbeispiel
Das Vergleichsbeispiel erfolgte analog des Beispiels mit der Ausnahme, dass anstelle des Kaliumsalzes der 4-(DiphenyIphosphino)benzoIsulfonsäure 26,3 mg unsubstituier- tes Triphenylphospin verwendet wurden.
Nach Reaktionsende und Ausfällung mit Methanol wurden 0,3 g Polyethylen, entsprechend einem Polymerisatfeststoffgehalt von 0,7 Gew.-% erhalten.
Claims
1. Verfahren zur Emulsionspolymerisation von einem oder mehreren Olefinen durch die Umsetzung einer chinoiden Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel la oder Ib oder eines Gemisches von mindestens zwei der Verbindungen la oder Ib
la Ib wobei R jeweils einen oder mehrere der nachstehenden Reste bedeuten:
Wasserstoff Halogen Nitril C-ι-C12-Alkylgruppen, d-Ciz-Alkoxygruppen, Cτ-Cι5-Aralkylgruppen, C6-C14- Arylgruppen, unsubstituiert oder substituiert durch: d-C^-Alkylgruppen, Halogene, d-C12— Alkoxygruppen, C3-C12-Cycloalkylgruppen, d-C12- Thioethergruppen, gegebenenfalls auch in Form ihrer Salze vorliegende Carboxygruppen oder Sulfogruppen, sowie Aminogruppen mit Wasserstoff und/oder C,-C12-Alkyl resten,
Aminogruppen NR1R2, wobei R1 und R2 gemeinsam oder getrennt stehen für Wasserstoff, Cr-ds-Aralkylreste und C6-Cι -Arylgruppen und zusätzlich auch einen gesättigten oder ungesättigten 5 bis 10-gliedrigen Ring bilden können, unsubstituiert oder substituiert durch: d-C12-Alkylgruppen, Halogene, Cι-C12-Alkoxygruppen, C3-C12-CycIoalkylgruppen, d-C12- Thioethergruppen, gegebenenfalls auch in Form ihrer Salze vorliegende Carboxygruppen oder Sulfogruppen, sowie Aminogruppen mit Wasserstoff und/oder d-C12-Alkyl resten, und wobei gleiche oder verschiedene Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formeln la und Ib gegebenenfalls auch durch eine oder mehrere Cι-C12-Alkylenbrücken, C2-C12-alkylierte Azobrücken oder Brücken der allgemeinen Formel II mit Y gleich Silizium oder Germanium und R3, R4 gleich Wasserstoff und/oder einer d-C12-AIkylgruppe,
verbrückt sein können,
mit einer Phosphinverbindung,
sowie mit einer Metallverbindung der allgemeinen Formel M(L2)2, M(L2)2(L1)z1 oder MO-V
wobei die Variablen wie folgt definiert sind:
M ein Übergangsmetall der Gruppen 7 bis 10 des Periodensystems der Ele- mente,
L1 Phosphane (R5)xPHs_x oder Amine (R5)XNH3_X mit gleichen oder verschiedenen Resten R5, Ether (R5)2O, Wasser, Alkohole (R5)OH, Pyridin, Pyri- dinderivate der Formel C5H5_x(R5)χN, Kohlenmonoxid, d-C12-Alkylnitrile, C6-C14-Arylnitrile oder ethylenisch ungesättigte Doppelbindungssysteme, wobei x eine ganze Zahl von 0 bis 3 bedeutet,
R5 Wasserstoff, Cι-C12-Alkylgruppen, die ihrerseits mit O(d-C6-Alkyl)- oder N(Cι-C6-Alkyl)2-Gruppen substituiert sein können, C3-C12-Cycloalkylgruppen, CT-Cis-Aralkylresten und C6-C14-Arylgruppen,
L2 Halogenidionen, Amidanionen (R6)yNHΘ 2-y, wobei y eine ganze Zahl von 0 bis 2 und R6 eine C-ι-C12-Alkylgruppe bedeutet, und weiterhin Cι-C6- Alkylanionen, Allylanionen, Benzylanionen oder Arylanionen, wobei L1 und L2 miteinander durch eine oder mehrere kovalente Bindungen verknüpft sein können,
z1 eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 4,
z2 eine ganze Zahl von 1 bis 6,
und nachfolgendem Einsatz des Umsetzungsproduktes zur Polymerisation oder Copolymerisation von Olefinen in Wasser oder in einem Lösemittelgemisch, das wenigstens 50 Gew.-% Wasser enthält, in Anwesenheit eines Emulgators und optional in Gegenwart eines Aktivators, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass als Phosphinverbindung entweder eine Verbindung III der allgemeinen Formel (R')aPH3-a eingesetzt wird, wobei R' für eine d-Cι2-Alkylgruppe, C3-C12- Cycloalkylgruppe, Cr-C15-Aralkylgruppe oder C6-C14-Arylgruppe steht, welche mit wenigstens einem polaren Rest P substituiert ist, wobei der polare Rest P ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe umfassend
Hydroxy-, Carboxy-, Sulfo-, Hydroxysulfonyloxy- oder Phosphonogruppen sowie deren möglichen Alkalimetall-, Erdalkalimetall- und/oder Ammoniumsalze,
Alkanolammonium-, Pyridinium-, Imidazolinium-, Oxazolinium-, Morpholini- um-, Thiazolinium-, Chinolinium-, Isochinolinium-, Tropylium-, Sulfonium-, Guanϊdinium- und Phosphoniumgruppen sowie Ammoniumgruppen der allgemeinen Formel IV
-NθR7RβR9 IV, wobei R7, R8 und R9 unabhängig voneinander für Wasserstoff oder für eine d- C12-Alkylgruppe steht,
oder
- eine Gruppe der allgemeinen Formel V, VI oder VII
-(EO)k-(PO),-R10 V, -(PO),-(EO)k-R10 VI, -(EOk/PO,)-R10 VII, wobei
EO für eine -CH2-CH2-O-Gruppe,
PO für eine -CH2-CH(CH3)-O- oder eine -CH(CH3)-CH2-O-Gruppe steht, k und I für Zahlenwerte von 0 bis 50 stehen, wobei aber k und I nicht gleichzeitig O sind,
R10 für Wasserstoff, eine Cι-C12-Alkylgruppe oder eine Sulfogruppe sowie deren entsprechendes Alkalimetall-, Erdalkalimetall- und/oder Ammonium- salz steht, und
a für 1, 2 oder 3 steht, und/oder eine Diphosphinverbindung VIII der allgemeinen Formel (R')bPH2-b-G-PR2 " eingesetzt wird, wobei R" für Wasserstoff steht oder die gleiche Bedeutung hat wie R', G für eine d-C12-Alkylengruppe, C3-C12- Cycloalkylengruppen, Cr-C15-Aralkylengruppen oder C6-Cι4-Arylengruppen steht, und b für 1 oder 2 steht.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 , dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein Aktivator eingesetzt wird.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass es sich bei der Metallverbindung um Olefinkomplexe des Nickels handelt.
4. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass ein ionischer Emulgator eingesetzt wird.
5. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass wenigstens eines der eingesetzten Olefine Ethylen ist.
6. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Ethylen das Hauptolefin ist und das Coolefin ausgewählt wird aus Propylen, 1- Buten, 1 -Hexen oder Styrol.
7. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das zu polymerisierende Olefin ausschließlich Ethylen ist.
8. Wässrige Polymerisatdispersion erhältlich nach einem Verfahren gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7.
9. Verwendung einer wässrigen Polymerisatdispersion gemäß Anspruch 8 in Papieranwendungen, Textil- und Lederapplikationen, zur Herstellung von Formschäumen, Teppichbodenbeschichtungen und pharmazeutischen Zubereitungen sowie als Komponente in Klebstoffen, Dichtmassen, Kunststoffputzen, Beschich- tungs- und Anstrichmitteln.
10. Polymerisatpulver erhältlich aus einer wässrigen Polymerisatdispersion gemäß Anspruch 8.
