Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of exercise equipment. More specifically, it relates to a new multifunction equipment for performing various types of gymnastic and rehabilitation exercises intended in particular for the upper part of the body.
  • a fundamental aim is that of creating equipment by means of which a number of training programs can be performed, involving the greatest possible number of muscles and articulations, and which can be differentiated according to the degree of training or fitness of the athlete.
  • a known type of multifunction equipment comprises - among other things - a pedestal with a seat, possibly sliding, and a couple of posts standing on the pedestal, holding at the free ends respective disk-shaped rotors with handgrips suitable for being gripped by a user seated, or in any way accommodated, on the seat.
  • the handgrips are attached to the relative rotor in an off-center position in relation to the axis of rotation, integral to the post. The user thus transmits rotation to the rotors via a reciprocating rhythmic movement of the arms, similar to some extent to that required for turning a crank, if necessary accompanied by, and combined with, cyclical flexion of the spine.
  • Equipment of this kind is however unsatisfactory from the viewpoint of versatility, dynamism and capacity for adaptation to the user.
  • the configuration of the two posts is relatively rigid, constraining the user to perform a limited number of exercises, above all following pre-established paths.
  • the articulations are forced to follow an established trajectory, and the movement thereof is thus conditioned.
  • the aim of the aforesaid research is therefore only partially achieved.
  • the fundamental object of the present invention is therefore that of providing equipment of a similar type to that briefly described above, yet considerably more effective, dynamic and versatile, in relation to the variety of exercises which can be performed and the parts of the body which can be involved.
  • a particular object of the present invention is that of providing equipment of the type mentioned above, which offers the possibility of adapting itself as far as possible to the physical features, needs and muscle-articular capacity of any user.
  • the exercise equipment comprises a base 1, essentially consisting of two longitudinal arc-shaped members 1a, mutually joined by cross members 1b.
  • the arc shape of the longitudinal members 1a makes the base 1 rockable around an axis X parallel to the support surface, the axis X being oriented crosswise (that is to say perpendicularly to the longitudinal members 1a) and substantially in an intermediate position.
  • Respective feet 7 are attached, projecting outwards, to the ends of the two longitudinal members 1a, for abutting on the support surface of the equipment in order to restrict the extent of the rocking, or even to prevent it altogether.
  • the feet 7 are screwed in holes formed in the lower part of the longitudinal members 1a, so that the stop of the rocking can be regulated appropriately simply by rotating the four feet 7 in a coordinated manner.
  • a central frame 2 rises up integrally from the cross members 1b, supporting an anatomically shaped saddle 3, in a rearward position with respect to the axis X, i.e. displaced towards an end of the longitudinal members, hereinafter taken as the "rear" end. More precisely, the saddle 3 has a saddle support sleeve 3a which engages telescopically in a hole provided for this purpose in the central frame 2. In this way the height of the saddle 3 can be regulated and locked in place by a screw-type tightening element, schematically represented and indicated at 4.
  • Two fixed handgrips 6 project laterally from the saddle 3 and can be gripped by the user for sustaining him/herself.
  • the drawings also show two pedals 5 which, located at the front ends of respective longitudinal members 1a of the base 1, perform the function of securing to the same base the feet of a user sitting on the saddle 3.
  • the pedals 5, with an adjustable tightening strap, can be moved along the longitudinal members 1a so as to fit the size of the user.
  • the pedals 5 are hinged at the base for allowing their free orientation in the most favorable manner for the specific circumstances of use.
  • the central frame 2 also holds a handlebar structure, generally indicated at 8, located frontally, that is to say opposite the saddle 3 with respect to the axis X, and in turn centrally in relation to the crosswise extension of the base 1. More specifically, the structure 8 comprises a fixed column 9 integral with the frame 2, and a mobile column 10 projecting frontally from the fixed column 9, beyond the outline of the base 1.
  • the mobile column 10 is pivotally connected to the fixed column 9, so that it can be rotated over a vertical plane, changing the slant in relation to the horizontal support surface. Adjustment and locking in the chosen position are carried out by means of a screw-type locking system, obvious per se , comprising an actuation knob 14 visible in the drawings.
  • the junction between the mobile column and the fixed column may also provide the possibility of rotation over the horizontal plane, and/or of translation upwards of the entire structure, all this again in an adjustable manner.
  • the mobile column 10 acts in turn as a support for a plurality of handlebars, including in particular at least two ball-joint handlebars 11, 12, directed upwards and downwards respectively, so that they can be gripped by the user, sitting on the saddle 3 and stretching out his/her arms forwards.
  • each handlebar 11, 12 consists essentially of a rod 11a, 12a, connected at one end to the mobile column 10 via a ball-joint 11b, 12b which allows its free movement in all directions.
  • the length of the rod 11a, 12a can be adjusted thanks to a telescopic structure with locking system, not shown.
  • the other end of the rod 11a, 12a is intended for gripping by the user.
  • gripping occurs via an additional bar 11c, 12c pivotally connected to the rod 11a, 12a so as to be freely rotated on a plane perpendicular to the rod itself.
  • the additional bar 12c of the lower handlebar 12 may also comprise belt means or the like (not shown) for engagement with the feet of the user.
  • the mobile column 10 pivotally supports a third handlebar 13, formed simply by a rod 13a pivoting over a plane parallel to the sitting plane of the user (and thus parallel to the support surface of the equipment in the rest condition as in figure 1).
  • the rod 13a is in fact pivotally connected, at the level of its median point, to the column 10.
  • Respective dome-shaped knobs 13b are arranged at the ends of the rod 13a, located with their base lying on the plane of rotation of the rod itself.
  • the knobs 13b are in turn pivotable in relation to the rod 13a around their respective zenithal axes.
  • the user by gripping the handlebars 11 or 12 and driving them, according to organized and coordinated sequences, can therefore perform with his/her arms movements which are generically circular or elliptical, linearly reciprocating, zigzag, twisting, and anything else, all this with the utmost variety, freedom and dynamism.
  • the posture of the body and therefore the involvement of the muscles and articulations will change according to the chosen handlebar.
  • the central handlebar 13 is used for reciprocating movements of bending and stretching of the two arms, with the torso extended forwards.
  • the fixed handgrips 6 can in turn act as a support or prop for one or both of the upper limbs, or be held by a trainer, to exercise a function of control and/or hinder of the rocking.
  • the equipment described above is suitable for numerous additional variants and/or implementations, besides those already mentioned, in order to increase its effectiveness and versatility further.
  • the frame 2 can for example provide means for supporting a weight, so that the same can be adjustably displaced in a longitudinal direction, modifying the overall balancing of the equipment.
  • a simply structured pre-setting may provide for installation on the frame 2, below the saddle 3, of a pedalboard suitable for making the equipment also usable as a stationary bicycle.
  • the fixed handgrips 6 can be made swingable downwards with elastic hinder.
  • a simple water level device can be connected to the saddle 3 or the frame 2 in order to control the maintaining of a perfectly balanced position (that is to say stable without rocking).
  • the mobile column 10, in addition to being extendable telescopically, may be provided with holes for the connection of additional side handlebars, which can be hinged on ball-joints in order to simulate a rowing motion.
  • the two upper and lower handlebars 11, 12 may be made sliding and lockable at the base on suitable guides, in order to vary their position along the mobile column 10.
  • the mobile column 10 can also be hinged via a ball-joint to the fixed column 9, or the latter can be hinged, again by means of a ball-joint, with respect to the frame 2, both these solutions achieving the aim of making the entire handlebar structure 8 movable as a whole.
  • the equipment according to the invention compared to similar solutions of the prior art, is advantageous due to user adaptability, the comprehensive range of exercises which can be performed and degree of dynamism of the same.
  • the freedom of movement offered in particular by the ball-jointed handlebars overcomes the rigidity of previous equipment, wherein the movements are generally constrained to predefined paths.
  • the equipment according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable for exercises of rehabilitation and prevention for the whole body: if in the case of healthy articulations (with reference in particular to the arm and shoulder) the handlebars can be made to perform complete movements, articulations which have suffered injury will adapt their movement naturally to their own possibilities.
  • the movements/exercises which can be performed with the equipment, in addition to traditional physiotherapy, will be derived more generally from, and be introductory to, disciplines such as dance, yoga, tai chi chuan and the like.
