Ein solches Pflege- beziehungsweise Krankenbett und ein solcher Handschalter sind aus der Druckschrift mit der Veröffentlichungsnummer DE 202 07 648 U1 bekannt. Diese Druckschrift zeigt einen Handschalter, bei dem verschiedene Schalter vorgesehen sind, um die verschiedenen Positionen der Liegefläche anzufahren. Auf dem Handschalter sind in Symbolen die Stellungen der Liegeflächen dargestellt, die angefahren werden können. Dem Symbol sind dabei jeweils zwei Taster zugeordnet, wobei mit einem Taster die in dem Symbol angezeigte Position angefahren werden kann und mit dem anderen Taster aus dieser Position zurück in eine Ausgangsposition gefahren werden kann. Jeder ansteuerbaren Position sind somit zwei Taster zugeordnet. Dieses führt dazu, dass für drei anfahrbare Positionen insgesamt sechs Taster vorgesehen sind, um nur drei Positionen anzufahren beziehungsweise aus diesen Positionen wieder zurück in eine Grundstellung zu kommen. Während der Aufwand bei dem in der genannten Druckschrift gezeigten Handschalter noch übersichtlich ist, vervielfacht sich der Aufwand, sobald weitere Positionen hinzukommen, die angefahren werden können. Die Handschalter werden in ihrer Gestaltung aufwendiger und unübersichtlicher. Der erste Handschalter weist ein in etwa quaderförmiges Gehäuse auf, auf dessen Oberseite verschiedene mit Symbolen versehene Schalter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, up, down angeordnet sind. Bei den Schaltern handelt es sich um Auswahlschalter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 auf der einen Seite und Richtungsschalter up, down auf der anderen Seite. Sowohl die Auswahlschalter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 als auch die Richtungsschalter up, down sind als Taster ausgeführt. Im Bereich der Auswahlschalter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ist jeweils eine dem jeweiligen Schalter zugeordnete Leuchtdiode L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 angeordnet. Eine Weitere Leuchtdiode L6 ist zusätzlich an der Oberseite des Gehäuses vorgesehen. Bei der Betätigung des Auswahlschalters 2 wird die Rückenlehne, die Oberschenkelstütze und die Unterschenkelstütze auf die in dem Symbol angedeutete Art und Weise eingestellt. Durch Betätigung des Auswahlschalters 3 kann die Höhe der Liegefläche eingestellt werden. Durch Betätigung des Auswahlschalters 4 kann die Rückenlehne einerseits und die Unterschenkel- und Oberschenkelstütze verstellt werden. Entsprechend wird bei Betätigung eines Auswahlschalters 5 ermöglicht, die Rückenlehne und die übrige Liegefläche V-förmig zueinander zu neigen.
Ist einer der Auswahlschalter betätigt worden kann der Verstellvorgang für die vorbestimmte Zeit durch Betätigung eines der Richtungsschalter up, down ausgeführt werde. Bei Betätigung des Schalters up wird in die in den Symbolen dargestellte Position gefahren, während bei Betätigung des Richtungsschalters down zurück in eine Ausgangsposition verfahren werden kann. Ist nach der vorbestimmten Zeit von etwa 30 Sekunden kein Richtungsschalter up, down betätigt worden, muss erneut ein Auswahlschalter betätigt werden, wenn die Position der Liegefläche beziehungsweise die Stellung der Liegefläche verändert werden soll.
