  • the pH of the rinse or wash solution containing the fabric freshener composition of the present invention is between pH 2 and 10, more preferably between pH 3 and 7 and even more preferably between pH 4 and 6.
  • the fabric freshener compositions of this invention lend themselves to packaging and packages may be made of sealed containers containing any desired amounts of such compositions that, being in dry form, may be readily distributed or shipped without difficulty.   • fragrance refers to odoriferous materials that are able to provide a pleasing fragrance to fabrics, and encompasses conventional materials commonly used in detergent compositions to counteract a malodour in such compositions and/or provide a pleasing fragrance thereto.
  • the fragrances are preferably in the liquid state at ambient temperature, although solid fragrances are also useful. Included among the fragrances contemplated for use herein are materials such as aldehydes, ketones, esters and the like which are conventionally employed to impart a pleasing fragrance to liquid and granular detergent compositions.   • Organic carrier materials both solid and liquid, that are compatible with perfume, for example starch, cellulose, other polysaccharides, triethyl citrate, tributyl citrate, dioctyl adipate, isoparaffins, waxes etc.
  • o Polymeric carrier materials both porous and non-porous, such as those disclosed in WO 98/28396, WO 98/28398 and EP 441512, PolyporeTM (marketed by Polypore Inc, Arlington, Arizona), PolytrapTM and MicrospongeTM (both from Cardinal Health, New Jersey, USA) and other porous carriers, such as those disclosed in WO 91/19483 and US 4873091.
  • Preferred materials in this category comprise isobutyl methacrylate as the main polymer, cross-linked with difunctional acrylate cross-linkers and using poly vinyl alcohol as a hydroxy-functional polymer, having a mean particle size in the range 70 to lOO ⁇ m.

  • the fragrance carrier is preferably odourless or of low odour, having no significant odour that would affect the odour of the fragrance.

  • the fabric freshener composition of the present invention may be in the form of finely divided powders, as well as relatively larger-sized granules, beads or agglomerated particles, and may be produced by diverse methods of manufacture such as spray-drying, dry-blending or agglomeration of individual components.
  • the invention can provide a process for producing a fabric freshener composition in solid form where such process is capable of producing large quantities of the fabric freshener composition quickly and with the minimum requirement for water and with the use of readily available production equipment.

  • the water-soluble support consists of a crystal material, such as sodium chloride, that is selected to be the desired size by sourcing and/or sieving.

  • To the crystal material is added, with stirring (using any standard equipment such as V type blenders, ribbon blenders, static mixer cones and double cones), a uniform coating of an outer layer of fragrance, or, if required, a layer of fragrance and fragrance carrier such as sodium tripolyphosphate.
  • the outer layer may also include any pigment or other secondary additives.
  • the inner crystal material defines the size and shape of the fabric freshener composition whilst the outer layer holds the fragrance, and other additives.
  • This method is used when the water-soluble support is able to absorb the fragrance.
  • the water-soluble support is granulated to the desired particle size by any standard granulation method know to those skilled in the art (such as powder layering, wet granulation and fluid bed agglomeration). Over and/or undersized particles are removed if required. Fragrance is then added to the granules with stirring. Flow aids are added if required. Pigments or other secondary additives may, if they are solid, be co-granulated with the water-soluble support or, if they are liquids, they may be added to the granules with the fragrance.
  • the finished fabric freshener composition generally contains less than about 1% water.
  • the above composition was prepared by Method 1 above.
  • the modified starch and fragrance were blended together in a ribbon blender for 15 minutes until uniformly mixed. This blend was then uniformly coated around the pre-sized sodium chloride granules in the blender. Finally, the amorphous silica flow aid was added to the coated granules and mixed until fully distributed.
  • the final freshness granules were white in colour and free-flowing.
  • the above composition was prepared by Method 2 above.
  • the sodium bicarbonate, citric acid and fragrance were blended together in a ribbon blender for 20 minutes until uniform granules of mean particle size 3mm were produced.

  • the polymer and fragrance were pre-mixed and allowed to equilibriate for three hours.
  • the polymer/fragrance mixture was then blended with the STPP in a ribbon blender for 15 rninutes until uniformly mixed.
  • the STPP/fragrance/polymer mixture was then blended into the sodium chloride to provide a uniform coating.
  • the silica flow aid was added to the coated granules and mixed until fully distributed.

Abstract

Selon cette invention, une composition désodorisante solide hydrosoluble pour tissu comprend (a) au moins un support hydrosoluble, (b) au moins un parfum et (c) éventuellement, jusqu'à 20 % en poids d'au moins un support de parfum. Cette composition peut être facilement formée en granulés capables d'une dispersion rapide dans de l'eau de rinçage ou de lavage à une température comprise entre 10°C et 30°C.
