Definitions
- the present invention relates to a self-adapting intraoral device for correction of asymmetry of the temporomandibular joints.
- the temporomandibular joints are the most highly placed * in humans. According to ancient Chinese medicine, the condition of these joints has an influence on the condition of other joints. The imperfections of the occlusion affect the functional state of the temporomandibular joints.
- This device is recommended daily as an exercise which consists in putting the pads in the mouth so that they are between the lower and upper molars kept tight for about fifteen seconds.
- This simple exercise involves the correction of the positioning of the temporomandibular joints and the restoration of symmetry on the sagittal, transverse and horizontal plan after ten days following the thesis of the Doctor Bogumila SOBCZAK and his publication in F1ZJOTERAPIA NR3 from 1997, pages 25, 26 and 27 in WROCLAW (Poland).
- the device according to the present invention overcomes this drawback.
- the self-adapting intra-oral device for correcting the asymmetry of the temporomandibular joints oneself comprises ⁇ two soft material pads intended to be clamped each between the lower and upper molars, these two pads being interconnected by a link to prevent them from being swallowed, is characterized in that said link consists of two rods of rigid material, the ends of which are each fixed to a pad, the ends of the rods opposite to the pads being connected together by a hinge part allowing to modify the spacing between the two bearings.
- This arrangement facilitates the positioning of the two pads of the device between the upper and lower molars and makes it possible to adjust the spacing between the two pads so that it corresponds to the spacing between the molars which varies according to the person. .
- the two pads are made of flexible plastic and are overmolded on the ends of said rods.
- the two pads are substantially parallel to each other, and when they are not stressed manually, their spacing corresponds to that of the molars of a medium-sized jaw.
- the two rods comprise opposite the bearings, two elbows directed towards each other which are extended by two parts of rod connected to each other by a flexible part forming a hinge.
- said flexible part is constituted by a thinning of the connection between the two rods.
- said rod parts extend beyond the flexible part forming a hinge to form on either side of the latter bearing surfaces for the thumb and forefinger making it possible to adjust the spacing of the two pads directly above the molars before their tightening by the latter.
- each pad has two opposite bearing faces intended to come into contact with the molars, comprising ridges, bosses or other roughness.
- This arrangement allows better seating of the molars on the pads.
- the pads have on their internal lateral face a fin capable of laterally guiding these pads relative to the molars.
- FIG. 1 is a plan view of a first version of the device according to the invention
- FIG. 2 is a view along arrow A of FIG. 1
- Figure 3 is a view along arrow B of Figure 1
- Figure 4 is a view of the device in place in the mouth of a user
- Figure 5 is a plan view of a second version of the device according to l invention
- Figure 6 is a view along arrow C of Figure 5
- Figure 7 is a sectional view along plane VII - Vil of Figure 6
- Figure 8 is a plan view of a third version of the device according to the invention.
- the self-adapting intra-oral device for correcting the asymmetry of the joints yourself temporomandibular comprises two pads 1 made of flexible material intended, as shown in Figure 4, to be clamped each between the lower and upper molars 2.
- the link is constituted by two rods 3 made of rigid material, the ends of which are each fixed to a pad 1.
- the ends of the rods 3 opposite to the pads 1 are connected together by a flexible part 4 forming a hinge allowing change the distance between your two pads 1.
- the two pads 1 are made of flexible plastic and are overmolded on the ends 3a of the rods 3.
- the two rods 3 comprise, opposite the bearings 1, two elbows 3b directed towards one another which are extended by two parts of rod 3c connected together by the flexible part 4 forming a hinge.
- the flexible part 4 is formed by a thinning of the connection between the two rods 3.
- rod parts 3c extend beyond the flexible part 4 forming a hinge to form on either side of the latter bearing surfaces 5, 6 for the thumb and the index finger allowing the spacing of the two pads 1 to be adjusted directly above the molars before they are tightened by the latter.
- the bearing surfaces 5, 6 are formed from plastic material overheated on the rod parts which extend on either side of the hinge 4.
- the bearing surfaces 5, 6 advantageously comprise asperities to improve the grip.
- each end of rod 7 has a bearing surface 9 (see FIG. 6) in contact with the bearing surface 10 of the other end of rod 7, the two bearing surfaces 9, 10 comprising friction means constituted by notches formed on blocks 1 1, 12 of wetted plastic. It can be seen in FIG. 7 that one of the bearing surfaces is extended in a direction opposite to the pads 1 by a grip tab. 13.
- the ends of the rods 14 opposite the two pads 1 are connected to each other by a flexible circular thinned portion 15 and by an adjustment screw 16 for adjusting the distance included between the two rods 14 and the two pads.
- each pad 1 comprises (see in particular Figures 2 and 6) two opposite bearing faces 1a, 1b planes intended to come into contact with the molars, comprising (see Figure 1) ridges 1c , 1d bosses or other roughness. These arrangements allow better seating of the molars on the pads 1.
- the pads 1 have on their side face. internal a fin 17 adapted to laterally guide these pads relative to the molars.
