Description

    Technical field
  • The invention relates to equipment for packing stacked bank notes and can be used, for example, in a bank.
  • Background of the invention
  • A known device for banding stacks (stubs) of securities comprises a body, a tape-drive mechanism provided with a reel holder, a feeding channel and a sensor for determining the tape length, and a looping unit. The device also comprises a welding mechanism with a welding head, a knife for cutting the tape, mechanism drives and a control unit (see RU, C1, 2123462 ).
  • The looping device has a table for arranging the stub, which is installed so as to allow rotation about the horizontal axis. The table comprises a shaft, a spring-loaded clamping lever and a tooth gear. A tape-cutting knife is secured upon the clamping lever. The rotary table provides clamping of the end of the tape by means of the spring-loaded lever and ensures its rotation upon formation of a loop. The lower surface of the table is used for forming the welding joint. The welding mechanism has a welding head that is moved by means of a cam mechanism. The looping and welding mechanisms have a common drive, the cams of each of the mechanisms being mounted upon the shaft of said drive, and a program disk connected to the control unit.
  • The disadvantages of this construction consist in relatively low efficiency of the device due to the complex process of loop forming that consists of several stages (preliminary and final) and to the fact that precise positioning of individual units and elements of the device is required.
  • A more efficient device for banding stubs of bank notes comprises a body, a tape-drive mechanism provided with a reel holder, a feeding channel and a sensor with an obturator disk for determining the tape length, as well as a looping unit with a table, a welding mechanism with a welding head, a knife for cutting the tape and mechanism drives, said looping unit being embodied as a loop-shaped channel limited by walls, and the stub table being fixed inside this channel in a overhanging way, wherein the welding mechanism is equipped with a mechanical transmission for reciprocating motion and several clamps, and is located within the body, said tape-cutting knife being mounted within the body of said welding mechanism; the reel holder is embodied as a tray that is located in the upper part of the body above the looping channel; the welding mechanism is located inside the body directly below the table of the looping unit and is equipped with a program bar that is provided with a sensor of linear displacement connected to the control unit (see RU, C1, 2166466 ).
  • This engineering solution has been taken as a prototype of the present invention.
  • Its disadvantage consists in the fact that it does not allow banding a stack of bank notes by means of a prefabricated ring with a perimeter that precisely fits the perimeter of the stack of bank notes. This results in low efficiency of the device; its operating principle consists in creating a complex movement of the tape, which forms a loop during the banding process, said loop being then tightened, whereupon the tape is cut off; a complex reversing tape-drive mechanism is used for this purpose; precise measurement of the tape length is required, said obturator mechanism being used for this purpose; in addition, a fairly complex mechanism of tape welding is used. Thus, the device has considerable complexity, insufficient efficiency and allows banding a stack of bank notes only by means of a welded tape, i.e. a plastic (e.g. polyethylene) tape; the use of paper tape, let alone prefabricated paper rings, is impossible in this device.
  • Summary of the invention
  • It is an object of this invention to provide a relatively simple, highly efficient and reliable device for banding stacks of bank notes.
  • According to the invention there is provided a device for banding stacked bank notes according to the claim.
  • Realization of the invention provides the object with a fundamentally new property that consists in that the object allows efficient banding of a stack of bank notes by means of a prefabricated ring, mainly a paper ring, with dimensions that correspond to the dimensions of the stack, resulting in the stack being tightly held by the ring; the banding procedure is extremely simplified, and the banding time is minimized.
  • Brief description of the drawings
  • The invention is further explained, by way of example, with reference to the following drawings, in which:
    • Fig. 1 is a front view;
    • Fig. 2 is a right-side view of Fig. 1;
    • Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the element for arranging the stack of bank notes;
    • Fig. 4 is same as Fig. 3, with an arranged stack of bank notes;
    • Fig. 5 is a front view of the container for packing material and the means for feeding the packing material.
    Preferred embodiment
  • The device comprises a body 1, a container 2 embodied as a box-like structure with an opening in the bottom; packing material embodied as tape rings 3 is placed inside the container 2, the tape rings being flattened and stacked in the container 2.
  • The means for feeding the packing material is embodied as an element 4 with a pick up unit in form of a roller 5, said roller having adhesive tape reeled upon its outer surface with the adhesive layer outwards.
  • The mechanism for displacement of the element with roller 5 is embodied as a lever 6 mounted upon the axis 7. The lever 6 is rigidly connected to the element 4. The element for arranging the stack of bank notes is embodied in such a way as to allow its deformation along the longitudinal axis; in this particular embodiment it is embodied as a tubular hollow casing 8 that tapers from its inlet opening 9 to its outlet opening 10. The tubular casing 8 has a lateral cut 11 along its full length from the inlet to the outlet. The tubular casing 8 is equipped with a sensor for determining the position of the stack of bank notes embodied as a lever 12 that is mounted so as to allow its rotation about the axis 13.
  • The lever 12 is connected to the mechanism for displacement of the element 4 with the roller 5 by means of mechanical transmission that comprises a pressure element 14 secured on the axis 13 and a spring-loaded plate 15 attached to the lever 6. The return of the lever 6 to its original position is performed by means of the spring 16. The supports 18 are located in the lower part of the container 2 upon the edges of its outlet.
  • The device functions in the following way.
  • A stack 17 of bank notes is inserted into the inlet 9 of the tubular casing 8 that is relatively bigger than the outlet 10 and is then moved towards the outlet 10. At this point the stack of bank notes 17 is deformed (see Fig. 2) and its end comes out of the outlet 10 of the tubular casing 8. During its movement inside the tubular casing 8, the stack of bank notes 17 presses the sensor for determining the position of a stack of bank notes embodied as the lever 12, whereupon the lever rotates about the axis 13. At this point the pressure element 14 rotates and presses the spring-loaded plate 15 attached to the lever 6. The lever 6 is thus turned downwards about the horizontal axis 7, causing the rotation of the element 4 with roller 5, which in case of no stack of bank notes inside the tubular casing 8 is pressed tight by the spring 16 to the lower ring of the rings 3 located in the container 2. When the roller 5 moves downwards, rotating together with the element 4 and the lever 6 about the axis 7, it drags the ring 3 downwards by means of the adhesive tape that is reeled upon the surface of said roller with its adhesive layer outwards, wherein the ring is converted from its flattened state caused by lying in the container to an unfolded state (see Fig. 5), and is sustained in this state due to the upper part of the ring being held by the supports 18 and the lower part of the ring being pulled downwards by the roller 5. The end of the stack of bank notes 17 that comes out of the outlet 10 of the tubular casing 8 enters the ring 3 during further movement of the stack of bank notes. Then the stack of bank notes is withdrawn from the tubular casing 8 through the cut 11 provided in said tubular casing 8, the direction being to the right when looking at Figs. 1, 2 and 5. The ring 3 stays on the stack of bank notes, banding it tightly. Then the device is returned to its original position by means of the spring 16. It is now ready for banding the next stack of bank notes. The procedure of inserting a stack of bank notes into the tubular casing 8 and withdrawing it from the tubular casing 8 through the cut 11 can be performed manually or automatically by means of some simple mechanism.
  • Industrial applicability
  • The inventive method can be implemented by common simple factory equipment.
