Stillstand eines Buchblocks 2, insbesondere dessen Vorderkante 11 an einer bestimmten Stelle des Förderweges 3, vorzugsweise hinter resp. in Förderrichtung F nach der Antriebsvorrichtung 10, anzuhalten, ist ein Sensor 12, beispielsweise aus Sender 13 und Empfänger 14 gebildet, in einem Förderbereich der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 angeordnet. Der an der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 überstehende Bereich eines Buchblocks 2 ist vorteilhaft kurz zu wählen, damit die zur Beschleunigung des Buchblocks 2 in der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 verfügbare Festlänge optimal genutzt werden kann, insbesondere wenn es sich um Buchblocks 2 kleiner Formatgrösse handelt. Sobald sich ein Buchblock 2 in der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 befindet, nachdem er über das Förderband 9 und die mit grösserer Fördergeschwindigkeit als letzteres angetriebene Antriebsvorrichtung 10 die Stillstandposition in der Eintaktvorrichtung 5 erreicht hat, wird er, ausgelöst durch ein Signal der Folgemaschine, mit hoher Beschleunigung aus der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 resp. der Eintaktvorrichtung 5 abgezogen und der die Buchblocks 2 taktweise weiterverarbeitenden Folgemaschine oder einer dieser zugeordneten Fördereinrichtung (Kette) zugeführt. Hierbei bewirkt die Beschleunigung der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 zwischen dem beschleunigten Buchblock 2 und einem nachfolgenden Buchblock 2', der sich auf dem mit geringerer Geschwindigkeit (beispielsweise etwa 15 %), als die Antriebsvorrichtung 10 angetriebenen Förderband 9 befindet, eine Lücke, die verhindert, dass der nachfolgende Buchblock 2' beim Beschleunigen des vorauslaufenden Buchblocks 2 von der Antriebsvorrichtung 10 nicht miterfasst wird. Die Bildung einer Lücke zwischen abzuziehendem Buchblock 2 und nachfolgendem Buchblock 2' spielt insbesondere beim Eintaktvorgang mit kleinen Formatgrössen und geringer Förderlänge eine besondere Rolle, indem der Sensor 12 die Vorderkante von Buchblock 2' erfassen kann und den Buchblock 2' abbremsen kann.
