- the various components of the mentioned machine are subject to a variety of requirements, including the medium catcher.
- the medium catcher should in particular be in Height direction be made comparatively compact.
- a proper discharge of the collected medium through the catcher to ensure what can be difficult especially for highly viscous media and / or very wide machines and height according to conventional conventional approaches possibly only at the cost of a large curtain height is possible.
- the mentioned requirements are obviously in competition with each other.
- the problem may be somewhat alleviated by applying to a web portion which is rising or falling in the direction of travel, and that the application medium is at least initially removed in or against the web running direction. Nevertheless, the problem remains, the curtain or veil as low as possible on the running surface, in particular the material web surface, by the medium catcher and release again to avoid contraction of the released or cut curtain or at least reduce, so that the surface is not undefined with application medium, in particular application medium drops, is applied. It is an object of the invention to provide improvements here.
- a second aspect of the invention there is also the task of picking up the curtain or veil by a suitably designed edge for interrupting the application or releasing it to start the application, so that an undefined one also exists Loading the running surface, in particular the running web, is avoided with order medium.
- starting gutter in the case of conventional medium collectors in the form of trays or gutters extending transversely across the material web
- the curtain can become adhesive on the wall of the starting gutter due to adhesion and upper-tension effects in the manner of the well-known "teapot effect" expires and from this undefined on the Subsurface drips.

- the application medium would drain on the outer wall of the medium catcher when releasing the curtain to the web surface in the course of starting the application and cutting the curtain to complete the curtain job and drop uncontrollably onto the web surface.
- This is prevented by the special design of the receiving and release part with in the order position in the direction of the curtain obliquely projecting release and cutting edge.
- this cutting and releasing edge is located significantly lower above the web surface than the upper edge of the media catcher so that, moreover, contraction of the released curtain due to surface tension to drips and the like is prevented or at least minimized.
- the coating machines of the above examples each have a control unit (control unit 100 in FIG Fig. 1 ), which controls the coating process, especially when recording the coating or interrupting or finishing the coating.
- the control unit 100 activates an actuator arrangement which adjusts the respective application head 18-1 or 18-2 or 18a or / and the respective associated media catcher or its receiving sheet in order to start the application of the curtain for delivery to the surface of the material web to release or to stop the order to catch the curtain through the interceptor.
- a stable curtain is preferably first set while it falls on the catcher. If a stable curtain is reached and the coating machine is otherwise in its desired state (desired running speed of the material web, operating temperature of the drying devices), the control unit then adjusts the medium catcher or its receiving sheet and / or the application head, so that the curtain subsequently strikes the material web surface ,
- control unit interrupts or terminates the application by adjusting the medium catcher or its receiving plate and the respective applicator head in such a way relative to one another that the curtain is caught again by the catcher.
- the reception sheet releasably arranged receiving plate according to the embodiment of Fig. 5 and the receiving and release parts on the receiving sheet according to the embodiment of Fig. 6 or at the gutter according to the embodiments of the 8 and 9 are, as indicated in the figures, executed with a specially designed curtain cut-off and release edge 130.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a machine for one-sided or two-sided application of a liquid or pasty application medium by means of at least one commissioned work on the surface of a moving material web, in particular made of paper or cardboard; in which the applicator dispenses the application medium from a dispensing opening arrangement, in particular a slot nozzle, directly or by mediation of at least one guide surface, in the form of a curtain or veil moving under the influence of gravity and / or under the influence of further forces towards a running background, wherein with direct application of the running surface is the surface of the web and, in the case of indirect application, the running substrate is the surface of a transfer element, preferably a transfer roller, which then transfers the application medium to the surface of the material web; wherein the machine in association with the commissioned work or a dispensing opening arrangement having dispensing part of the commissioned a medium collector, possibly a drip pan or gutter, for collecting issued from the discharge opening arrangement application medium in connection with the start and / or termination of the order and / or in Intercepting business interruption phases.
In order to ensure a good, high quality requirements sufficient order result, the various components of the mentioned machine are subject to a variety of requirements, including the medium catcher. In view of the fact that the curtain or veil does not have too high a height, that is, that the discharge opening arrangement is not too high above the running ground, the medium catcher should in particular be in Height direction be made comparatively compact. On the other hand, a proper discharge of the collected medium through the catcher to ensure what can be difficult especially for highly viscous media and / or very wide machines and height according to conventional conventional approaches possibly only at the cost of a large curtain height is possible.
The mentioned requirements are obviously in competition with each other. The problem may be somewhat alleviated by applying to a web portion which is rising or falling in the direction of travel, and that the application medium is at least initially removed in or against the web running direction.
In a close contextual context with the problem addressed above, according to a second aspect of the invention, there is also the task of picking up the curtain or veil by a suitably designed edge for interrupting the application or releasing it to start the application, so that an undefined one also exists Loading the running surface, in particular the running web, is avoided with order medium. Thus, in the case of conventional medium collectors in the form of trays or gutters extending transversely across the material web (so-called "starting gutter"), the curtain can become adhesive on the wall of the starting gutter due to adhesion and upper-tension effects in the manner of the well-known "teapot effect" expires and from this undefined on the Subsurface drips. Such sagging of application medium on surface portions of the medium catcher should be avoided. The invention is also intended to provide improvements here.
In the case of machines of the type mentioned, it is generally necessary to clean components and surfaces which come into contact with the application medium. This is especially true for the medium catcher. Since such machines often have to meet tight space limitations in the direction and height direction, is especially in the field of usually provided "curtain nozzle" and the associated medium catcher little space available. It follows that the medium catcher is often difficult to access for cleaning purposes. Moreover, it is desirable if a quasi-automatic cleaning without immediate action by operators on the component to be cleaned is possible. The invention accordingly also has the aim of enabling effective cleaning of the medium catcher.

Against this background, it is an object of the present invention to develop a machine of the generic type so that the cleaning of the receiving and release part is facilitated with minimal loss of productivity of the machine.
To solve this problem, the invention provides a machine according to
In the proposed manner, two inherently competing conditions can easily be met simultaneously. On the one hand, it can be achieved in such a way that the curtain is released as low as possible above the running substrate for starting the application or is taken up for interrupting or terminating the application. Local excess application as a result of a contracting by the surface tension curtain can be avoided or at least reduced. On the other hand, in a corresponding embodiment of the medium catcher or the subcomponent, a large application medium flow can still be collected, held and removed, for example, by providing a sufficiently high boundary wall for the receiving and release part. It can certainly provide that on the receiving and release part, the edge or edge opposite an upper edge of the boundary wall much lower over the current surface, in particular the material web can be arranged in the course of interaction with the curtain trapped application medium there simply remains and is not discharged to the medium catcher or its sub-component or to the web edge.
To solve the object of the invention, the invention further provides a method of operating a machine according to claim 2. It is proposed that before starting the application, the receiving and releasing part or at least one receiving and releasing part of several associated receiving and releasing parts attached to the medium catcher and / or that before starting the application or after the start of the order in the current Order operation, before the termination or interruption of the order from the Mediumaufänger the receiving or releasing a order medium holding or adhering application medium receiving and release part and the or at least one other, in particular cleaned or freed from application medium receiving and release part is attached to the medium catcher again. In particular, in this way remaining on the receiving and release part application medium can be easily removed.
According to one embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the medium catcher or the receiving and release part associated therewith has a flat, in particular blade-like, edge extending over the running ground, which in the direction of travel of the ground or in the direction opposite to the running direction to a extending current subsurface, preferably sharp-edged edge rising, which is used when starting the application to release the curtain or veil by relative adjustment to the curtain or veil to move towards the current surface or / and which when interrupting or terminating the order by relative adjustment to the curtain or veil in the curtain or veil to enter the curtain or veil. As a result of this design of the edge extending over the running substrate, it is avoided that when the application is interrupted, the curtain encounters a surface on which it could form droplets or that, when the curtain is released, it forms droplets forming on a surface due to the teapot effect , Ideal is a blade-like formation of the edge with a sharp edge.
It has proven particularly expedient if the edge extends at an angle of 20 ° to 60 °, preferably at an angle of 30 ° to 50 ° to the horizontal in or counter to the running direction. Furthermore, it has been found to be expedient if the edge extends over 5 to 50 mm, preferably over 10 to 30 mm in the horizontal direction.
Advantageously, the edge emanating from a substantially vertically extending wall portion of the medium catcher or a sub-component thereof or the receiving and release part. It has been found to be expedient if the wall section extends over 0 to 50 mm, preferably over 0 to 30 mm, most preferably over 10 to 20 mm in the vertical direction.
Advantageously, the wall portion or the edge emanating from a horizontally or inclined bottom portion of the medium catcher or a subcomponent thereof or the receiving and release part. It has been found to be expedient if the bottom portion is inclined at an angle of 0 ° to 50 °, preferably at an angle of 0 ° to 30 °, most preferably at an angle of 5 ° to 15 ° relative to the horizontal.
In a further embodiment of the invention, it is proposed that the medium catcher is assigned at least one supply line which is connected or connectable to a cleaning liquid supply and cleaning liquid can be supplied by the cleaning liquid supply via the surface sections of the medium catcher coming into contact with the collected application medium. The supply line may be an integral part of the medium catcher. For example, the supply line extends transversely to the running direction of the material web over the entire transverse dimension of the medium catcher. Particularly useful is an embodiment of the supply line as a spray tube.
The proposal of this embodiment may be surprising since, as is generally known, a recovery and, as a rule, after work-up, the reuse of the application medium collected by the medium catcher is provided. Such Recovery is difficult or impossible if cleaning liquid, such as water, enters the application medium return.
Nevertheless, in order to enable or at least facilitate the recovery of application medium, it is proposed that a valve arrangement is provided which is connected to at least one first connection on the medium receiver and is connected to at least one second connection to a cleaning fluid intake or cleaning fluid removal or purification fluid treatment or recovery arrangement, and is connected to at least a third port on a Auftragmediumaufbereitungs- or recovery arrangement, the valve assembly between a first valve state, in which the first is connected to the second terminal, and a second valve state, in which the first is connected to the third terminal, switchable is. In this way, one can dissipate collected application medium and used cleaning liquid separately and perform a respective re-use or disposal.
Also advantageous is a method for operating the machine according to the invention, in which before, during or after an order operation of the machine, the medium catcher is cleaned by supplying cleaning fluid via the supply line. with respect to the further developed machine, it is specifically proposed for the method that the valve arrangement for the cleaning is switched to the second valve state, and that the valve arrangement for collecting application medium through the medium catcher is switched to the third valve state. A particularly preferred embodiment of the method is characterized in that after starting the application, during the order operation, the medium catcher is cleaned by supplying cleaning fluid via the supply line.

The medium catcher 26-1 consists of a collecting plate 40-1 which extends over the entire width of the curtain in the direction transverse to the running direction of the material web and which extends substantially parallel to the inclined material web section 12-1, ie likewise inclined relative to the horizontal, and one itself adjoining this receiving and discharge chute 42-1, which extends in the transverse direction to the material web running direction and has a slope in this direction, in order to dissipate in the transverse direction the application medium fed from the collecting sheet her. The collected application medium is thus removed on the collecting tray 40-1 first in the running direction of the material web and then in the channel 42-1 in the transverse direction to the running direction. The receiving and discharge chute 42-1 is arranged next to a vertically extending material web section 12-2 or the web guide, which is held by the
As between the curtain applicators no intermediate drying, but only the web deflection is provided, which touchingly engages the second, not coated by the first curtain applicator 18-1 web surface, the web portion 12-3 before the application head 18-2 touching by the
In front of the application head 18-1 or 18-2, a device 19-1 or 19-2 can advantageously be provided for eliminating or weakening an air boundary layer entrained by the material web, for example a boundary layer extraction or a boundary layer scraper.

If the receiving and releasing

When starting the application, a stable curtain is preferably first set while it falls on the catcher. If a stable curtain is reached and the coating machine is otherwise in its desired state (desired running speed of the material web, operating temperature of the drying devices), the control unit then adjusts the medium catcher or its receiving sheet and / or the application head, so that the curtain subsequently strikes the material web surface ,
In a corresponding manner, the control unit interrupts or terminates the application by adjusting the medium catcher or its receiving plate and the respective applicator head in such a way relative to one another that the curtain is caught again by the catcher.
The curtain cut-off and release edge consists at least of a cutting portion 132 which extends in the order position in the direction of the curtain rising and preferably ends in a sharp-edged
The main portion 138 of the receiving plate 40-1 is preferably executed plan and may advantageously extend at an angle α of 0 ° to 30 °, preferably at an angle α of 5 to 15 ° relative to the horizontal, possibly parallel to the possibly rising or sloping material web.
