Definitions

  • the invention relates to an ice ax for mountaineering comprising a head, a handle, an anatomical grip having a free end and an end secured to the handle, and delimiting a grip zone of length L of the ice ax, delimited by a adjusting tip arranged at the free end of the handle, and a protrusion of the handle at its end integral with the handle, the handle comprising means for adjusting the length L of the grip zone.
  • Ice axes used by mountaineers are safety tools for climbing ice slopes or very hard snow.
  • An ice ax generally comprises a head serving as support for a breakdown or a hammer and an anchor, and a hollow handle in which the head is fitted.
  • the elongated blade-shaped anchor is intended to penetrate the ice to provide effective anchorage allowing traction on the handle.
  • Spades and breakdowns are usually interchangeable elements with different shapes and sizes so that the mountaineer can have the most suitable ice ax for the terrain.
  • the holding of the handle in the hand of the climber is an essential factor of efficiency for the penetration of the spades in the ice.
  • the mountaineer usually holds the end of the shaft to have the most important strike torque appropriate for optimum penetration force of the spear in the ice cream. It is imperative that at the moment of the shock with the ice, the mountaineer does not let go of the handle.
  • the object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks, and to make an ice ax for mountaineering having an adjustment endpiece, the grip of which is improved, according to the grip morphology of mountaineering and climbing. intended use.
  • this object is achieved by the fact that the adjusting endpiece is pivotally mounted on the handle.
  • the adjusting tip is rotatably mounted about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the gripping handle.
  • the gripping handle comprises a plurality of orifices corresponding to different positions of the adjustment nozzle, the ice ax comprising a locking element intended to be introduced into one of the orifices and to maintain the adjusting nozzle in one of said positions.
  • the free end of the gripping handle comprises a plurality of notches corresponding to different positions of the adjusting tip, the adjusting tip comprising a plurality of grooves cooperating with the notches of the handle. free end so as to hold the adjusting end in one of said positions.
  • an ice ax 1 for mountaineering consists of a head 2 equipped with a fastening tip 3 fitted in a handle 4, preferably in the form of hollow tube.
  • the cross section of the tip 3 is non-circular, for example oval or elliptical, so as to ensure the anti-rotation of the head 2 in the handle 4.
  • a first end 5 of the head 2 carries a striking hammer removably fixed by a screw 6. It is possible to replace the striking hammer with a failure (not shown).
  • a second end 7 of the head 2, opposite the end 5, serves as a support for a spike 8 constituted by an interchangeable metal blade.
  • the spike 8 is preferably made of high strength steel, and comprises a blade 9 equipped along the lower edge of a series of gripping teeth 10, to obtain an optimum anchoring effect of the spike 8 in ice or hard snow. Fixing the spike 8 on the head 2 is operated by means of screw connection 11 and 12.
  • the length of the handle 4 depends on the size of the mountaineer, and the shape of the handle 4 is preferably curved for better adaptation to the terrain.
  • the lower end of the handle 4 is equipped with a handle 13 having an anatomical shape.
  • the handle 13 is made of a synthetic plastic or elastomeric material and reported by overmolding on a skeleton 14, of flat section, preferably made of aluminum alloy.
  • the gripping handle 13 has a fastening end 15 fitted into the handle 4 and a free end 16.
  • the handle 13 also includes adjusting means 17 for adjusting the size of the handle 13 to the height of the mountaineer's hand.
  • the adjustment means 17 comprise a pivoting adjustment piece 18.
  • a gripping zone 19 is delimited by the gripping handle 13.
  • the gripping zone 19, of length L, is located between the adjusting tip 18 and a protuberance 20 of the handle 13 at the level of the fixing end 15 integral with the handle 4.
  • the adjusting end 18 and the protrusion 20 protrude outside the handle 13 and are shaped according to hooks, preferably oriented towards the head 2 of the ice ax 1 These hooks provide the mountaineer with an additional opportunity to grip the handle 13.
  • the adjustment end piece 18 is mounted free to rotate, solely in the adjustment phase, about an axis 21 perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the gripping handle 13.
  • the gripping handle 13 has a plurality of orifices 22 arranged transversely and corresponding to different positions that can take the adjustment nozzle 18.
  • the ice ax 1 also comprises a locking element 23 intended to be introduced into one of the orifices and to maintain the tip 18 in a position determined by the mountaineer.
  • the adjusting end 18 comprises a tongue 24 with an orifice of diameter similar to that of the orifices 22 of the handle 13.
  • the locking element 23 is then introduced when the two orifices are vis-à-vis.
  • the blocking element 23 is advantageously a screw-nut system, making it possible to obtain an effective type of blocking of the adjusting end-piece 18 on the gripping handle 13. Any other type of blocking may, of course, be used.
  • the adjustment of the length L of the grip zone 19 is carried out before the use of the ice ax 1, and the adjusting tip 18, after locking, remains stationary and integral with the handle 13 during use by mountaineer.
  • the position A representing the first end position of the adjustment nozzle 18, is obtained when the tongue 24 of the adjustment nozzle 18 is positioned on one of the orifices 22, the closest to the zone of 19.
  • the locking element 23 provides final locking of the two parts 13 and 18, by introducing a screw through the two orifices, and tightening the assembly with a nut.
  • a first length L1 of the gripping zone 19 is obtained.
  • the design of the handle 13 and of the adjustment bit 18 induces a length L1 of the order of 114 mm (FIG. 2).
  • the position B which is the second end position opposite to the position A, is obtained after loosening of the locking element 23 and rotation of the adjusting endpiece 18 about its axis 21.
  • the orifice of the tongue 24 comes opposite the orifice 22 of the handle 13, furthest from the zone of 19.
  • the final locking of the two parts 13 and 18 is performed in the same way as for the position A, with the aid of the blocking element 23.
  • the second length L 2 of the gripping zone is thus obtained. in hand 19.
  • the length L2 is of the order of 92.1 mm ( Figure 3).
  • the head 2, as well as the handle 4 and the skeleton 14 of the handle 13 are advantageously made of aluminum alloy.
  • the overmoulding of the plastic material of the handle 13 takes into account the average hand of a mountaineer, for example of the order of 90mm.
  • the ice ax 1 is adapted to all gripping morphologies and to any type of use because the presence of the adjustment means 17 allows optimum grip of the ice ax 1.
  • the adjustment means 17 are not limited to the embodiment described above.
  • the gripping handle 13 may, for example, comprise complementary adjustment means making it possible to move the pivoting axis of the adjustment nozzle 18.
  • an oblong hole may be formed in the gripping handle 13 or in the adjustment endpiece 18.
  • the axis of rotation 21 of the adjusting endpiece 18 can thus take several positions to optimize the grip of the mountaineer.
  • the locking element 23 remains, for example, a screw-nut system, or any other locking means.
  • the gripping handle 13 differs from the previous embodiment by the adjustment means 17.
  • the adjustment nozzle 18 is mounted free to rotate, solely in the adjustment phase, around of the axis of rotation 21.
  • the free end 16 of the handle 13 comprises a plurality of notches 25, corresponding to the different positions that can take the adjustment nozzle 18.
  • the tip of Adjustment 18 comprises a plurality of grooves 26 cooperating with the notches 25 of the free end 16 to place the adjusting tip 18 in a predetermined position. The position of the notches 25 and grooves 26 can of course be reversed.
  • the position A (FIG. 5), representing the first end position of the adjustment nozzle 18, is obtained, after loosening of the axis of rotation 21, when the grooves 26 of the adjustment nozzle 18 are positioned. at the notches 25 of the free end 16 furthest from the fitted end 15. The notches 25 of the free end 16 closest to the fitted end 15 are then not used.
  • the axis of rotation 21 ensures the final locking of the two parts 13 and 18 via, for example, a nut. This gives the first length L1, corresponding to the maximum length of the grip zone 19.
  • Position B (FIG. 6), which is the second end position opposite the position A, is obtained after loosening of the axis of rotation 21, rotation of the adjusting bit 18 around the axis 21 and positioning of the grooves 26 of the adjusting end 18 facing the notches 25 of the free end 16 of the gripping handle 13.
  • the grooves 26 of the adjusting endpiece 18 are positioned in the notches 25 of the the free end 16 closest to the fitted end 15.
  • the notches 25 of the free end 16 furthest from the fitted end 15 are then not used.
  • the final locking of the two parts 13 and 18 is ensured in the same way as for the position A, using the axis of rotation 21. This gives the second length L2, corresponding to the minimum length of the zone of rotation. getting started 19.
