Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and a device for viewing, archiving and transmission over a computer network of a garment model, and their use.
- UK Patent GB 861 972 published on 1 March 1961 to A. LENY shows how the traditional taking of human measures to wear the garment by a tailor can be replaced with a photography session. At least three shots of the person standing on a swivel platform are taken in at least three different directions in front of a white background with orthogonal lines. A motor drives the platform, and the camera shutter and the lighting are synchronized with the rotation of the latter.
- the system can be implemented on a local computer, or on a central computer accessible by multiple users, via a communication network such as the Internet. Clothing models appearing in a catalog can be sent periodically to the customer.
- the various methods and systems for viewing a known item of clothing on a computer have at least two limitations: a) the oldest offer limited interactivity, b) the most recent are simulations carried out entirely by software which can therefore have gaps as for their realism.
- the present invention therefore aims to enable all parties jointly concerned along the "clothing value chain", such as designers, product managers, agents, sourcing offices, manufacturers, suppliers of materials, to effectively communicate essential information concerning the process of creation and choice, realization of prototypes and their manufacture, the technical and visual key points on quality, production costs and target prices on the basis of a visualization unique and identical translated and transmitted via any intranet, extranet or Internet communication network.

- MHS human mannequin
- VMS virtual virtual mannequin
- FIG. 1 is a general flowchart showing the four main steps of the method implemented in the SW.
- the first step 1 leads to the provision, in parallel, in the profile and study size, of a specific virtual mannequin (MVS) in 3D and a specific physical mannequin (MPS) 2 strictly identical, perfectly representative of the morphology of the target consumer.
- VMS virtual mannequin
- MPS physical mannequin
- the second step is a step 3 of data acquisition. It implements the photography and simulation techniques specific to the process.
- the third step 4 merges the data acquired during the previous step.
- the data are viewed, archived and disseminated by implementing a specific document format suitable for the clothing industry, the GDF (Garment Document Format) format.
- GDF Garment Document Format
- the designer of the brand, as well as the product manager define the body silhouette considered to be representative of the target consumer to be served.
- Current industrial practice in this area to obtain the precise profile and dimensional measurements of this representation is based on the choice of a living mannequin 6 corresponding as closely as possible to this definition (the MHS, the Specific Human Mannequin).
- a more scientific approach consists in using the information collected following a specific morphological survey by scanning the target population, data organized according to their key parameters of categorization of human body profile (ethnic family, sex, stature, weight , body measurements, attitude and posture) within a 7.8 morphological data bank such as that developed by the depositor, and to select the target profile.
- a virtual human representation is used, to which the patented “Cyberfit” deformation-expansion process on computer 11 is applied to ensure complete and precise filling of the defined volumetric space.
- the point cloud specific to the chosen category of human body profile (from the database 7.8), simultaneously correcting the asymmetries and revealing the key lines (the “red lines”) of clothing construction selected data of body measurements and attitude-posture considered essential in terms of dress design.
- the SW has a specific virtual representation of the target body (the MVS, the specific virtual mannequin) completely configured.
- the MVS the specific virtual mannequin
- This MPS 2 mannequin is equipped with a carabiner for attachment to a suspension system 13.
- the SW uses an automatic measurement and size evolution system for rationally construct the other sizes according to the dimensional measurements required by the label by showing the “Red lines” (more than 40 key measurement lines and key parameters of attitude and posture defining the body profile). All these measurement values correspond to the representative body profile of the consumer and are identical for the MVS and the MPS 2 being "modeled" from the same data.
- the method according to the invention implements, as a visualization base, a method of taking photographs of naked MPS 2, of dressed MPS 2 and of fusion with MVS, allowing a interactive communication to control the correct construction, the fit and the manufacturing details of the garment under discussion.
- the garment to be examined is placed on the MPS 2, suspended from a bracket 14, and is photographed with a digital camera 15 disposed on a metal frame 16, the distance of which from the bracket 14 is adjustable in order to obtain a focus. correct photographic.
- the bracket 14 includes positioning marks 17 for fixed focusing.
- the digital camera 15 can take a series of shots of this MPS 2 naked or dressed in several regularly spaced radial directions.
- the suspension device 13 of the MPS 2 comprises a notched disc 18 and a locking piece 19 allowing a succession of angular displacements of 30 ° over an overall rotation of 360 °.
- the twelve digital images of the naked MPS are taken in all of the twelve positions and transferred to the microcomputer 20 used to control the camera 15.
- the data corresponding to these images stored in the computer system 21 constitute the first display layer of the MPS of the label in the database 22,23 of the SW system.
- the garment is then placed on the MPS and photographed in the same way.
- the position markers 17 incorporated in the construction of the bracket 14 and positioned on the uprights are used to adjust the camera 15 with fixed focal length.
- a set of personalization details can be brought to the MVS by simulation on the computer system 21 in accordance with the body profile of the MPS 2 and certain of the visual characteristics of the target population (type and color of hair, of skin) to give, according to the definition of the brand, the appearance required for the fashion model.
- the specific virtual “fashion” dummy (MMVS) it will be used as such to show clothing on screen to indoor and outdoor customers 24,25,26.
- the data corresponding to all of the twelve images according to the twelve positions of the specific virtual mode dummy MMVS constitute the second display layer of the dummy MMVS.
- the dressed MPS is merged with the MMVS on the computer system 21 to reveal a viewable dressed MMVS mannequin. When the clothes are positioned on the mannequin 2, all twelve positions can be viewed for a subjective assessment.
- the whole of this step to reach an exploitable result requires a lot of precision concerning, on the one hand, the relative positioning of each element in the shooting booth (mannequin 2, camera 15) and, on the other hand, the correct positioning of the garment to be examined on the naked body of the MPS 2 or on the dressed mannequin, with or without a previous layer.

- f focal length of the camera
- cw physical width of the CMOS sensor
- ch physical height of the CMOS sensor
- i width of the photo
- ih height of the photo
- pw width of the physical space captured by the photo
- ph height of the physical space captured by the photo
- h height of the physical dummy 2 in mm
- r ratio 1 pixel per physical unit in mm
- spmh the height of the MPS dummy 2 in number of pixels
- the SW asks users to define the low point as well as three marks in the photo space in order to fix the position of the low point of the MPS 2, the frame of the cabin 14 and the particular space to be photographed.
- the correct position of the MPS 2 is determined by the approximation of the spmh and the low point.
- the SW When shooting the naked MPS 2, the SW needs additional information to ensure the standard vertical orientation position. This is obtained by the arrangement of a laser source 27 under the legs of the MPS 2.
- the photograph of the garment must undergo a transformation so that the scale, orientation and position are correct.
- the procedure for covering the low reference point 0 allows the garment to be brought to the correct position on the MPS 2.
- the correct scale correction factor can be determined.
- the traces 29, 30 of the laser beam 27 every 30 ° help to fix the correct orientation of the garment. They are arranged in two concentric circles whose center O is the trace of the axis of rotation ZZ 'of the dummy 2 on the horizontal plane of the sensor.
- the angular difference between an AOB OA radius of the circle corresponding to the positions of the MPS 2 nu ( ⁇ black points) and the adjacent radius OB of the circle corresponding to the dummy dressed positions 2 (white dots) is shown in Figure 3a.
- the precise fusion of the images takes place during the third step 4, taking into account the corrections of scale, position and orientation.
- the MPS 2 being obtained from a mold from the MVS, both incorporate the “red lines” as well as the dimensional measurements and identical attitude and posture parameters.
- the “red line” of the upper section of the body and the “red line” of the lower section act as positioning and marking marks for the images to be merged.
- MVS with those of the MPS, the dressed MPS and the dressed MMVS mode dummy.
- the second layer (the MVS fashion model of the brand) is used for “subjective analyzes” (comments on the visual aspects, the aesthetic appearance of the style as well as on the details of differentiation added).
- Several types of clothing can be superimposed on the MPS 2.
- the merged images will appear exactly on top of each other, layer on layer.
- Each layer can be observed as a single garment dressing the MPS 2 and this according to any degree of transparency (from totally transparent to fully opaque), showing either the naked MPS 2 or the dressed MPS 2.
- Each layer can be observed in relation to the other layers. They can all relate to the points and lines of reference of the dimensional measurements and key parameters of the primary layer of the MPS 2.
- the model maker or one of the parties involved can ensure the correct positioning of the garment on the mannequin or on the previous layer, (using the “red lines” of reference and plumb), check the dimensional measurements, in particular with the AMS (automatic measurement system), examine the garment from any of the twelve viewing angles, in any degree of transparency showing either the naked MPS 2 with the “red lines” (construction and plumb lines), or the clothing dressing the MPS 2 with or without the “Red lines”.
- the space between the garment and the MPS 2 can be observed and measured in order to make sure that it goes well (ease and comfort) and that this achievement and this size correspond well to the specifications of the model maker both objectively, by measurements, and subjectively by appearance.
- the method of fusion is as follows.
- the MPS 2 is obtained from a mold from the MVS, both have parameters of identical size, attitude and posture.
- the upper and lower body markers - chest measurement and hip measurement - serve as marks to merge the MVS with the MPS 2, the dressed MPS 2 and the fashion model MMVS.
- the “red lines” are imported on the MPS 2. By locating the body positioning marks on the MPS 2, fusion is possible.
- the positioning of the MPS 2 on the photography area can also be identified by cleats 17 of the structure forming part of the construction of the shooting stand 14, 16. This facilitates photographic focusing and marking of distances.
- a light source 27 emitting a laser beam in a substantially vertical direction is placed at the base of a foot of the MPS 2.
- a matrix sensor 28 horizontal is arranged under the structure 14 to detect the position of the light spots 29, 30 resulting from the impact of the laser beam. Any deviation of the MPS 2 from a standard position can therefore be corrected by software to restore perfect alignment.
- the MVS is cropped, reoriented, merged exactly with the MPS 2.
- Personalization details are added to the merged MVS for viewing the second layer on the MMVS mode dummy.
- the dressed part - the garment to be examined - can be extracted.
- the combined set chosen will be composed by merging different garments on the MPS 2 or on the MMVS mode dummy constituting a combined set to be viewed.
- the end result is a visualization of the garment dressing the MMVS for the subjective control of the aesthetic aspect and the fit.
- the fusion step is firstly based on the photography of the different layers using the photographic techniques mentioned above to ensure the correct positioning, orientation and scale, the whole going from the base surface (MPS 2 nu ) to the last layer of the covering.
- MHS specific human dummy 6
- AMS automatic measurement system
- Red lines” specification file The first line of the INT file is meaningless, disregard it.
- each line structure will be: xl yl zl x2 y2 z2 number _ ID in which (xl, yl, zl) and (x2, y2, z2) are the coordinates of the origin and of l end of the segment whose ID number is "ID number”.
- “Red lines” corresponds to the height of the head, the ID4 number being the total height of the "red line” of the body. From this information, the system is able to calculate the height of the neck, c) having developed the photo of the MPS 2, the median line of the photo located under the suspension point must be strictly vertical. The height of the MPS 2 from the point of suspension to the base of the legs is known from the data, d) additional information is required, the height of the neck of the MPS 2, e) the positioning of the “red lines” data on the photos of the MPS 2 is determined relative to the midline.
- the scale of the “red lines” data is determined by the ratio between the neck height of the MPS 1 and the neck height of the “red lines” of the body, f) after adjusting the position and scale, the data "red lines” will be able to impress on the photo of the MPS 2.
- the SW presents itself as a natural complement to assistance to the parties involved in the supply chain allowing them to access the various documents, databases and communications. can be compared with the images being viewed concerning orders such as requests for information in progress. Thanks to the GDF document format, the SW makes available the multiple article files necessary for the different objectives and ensures that the process is kept under control to facilitate better understanding and better accessibility. All the functions of the SW are gathered in several software modules constituting the GDF Organizer:
- This last module also allows the editing of the process diagram for management contacts. It helps all the management to organize any item of clothing under development.
- the GDF organizer is as follows.
- the Studio and the GDF Viewer are an application to create and dispose of the elements of the GDF article file (a query concerning the garment or an order to order the garment).
- comments can be recorded directly in the GDF documents. They serve as a reference, trace, recording and basis for interactive communication.
- GDF studio different MPS dressed with a single garment or in combination with others can be viewed.
- the Studio as well as the GDF Viewer allow users to visualize the dimensional relationships between the garment and the body by specifying the different degrees of transparency.
- the various interlocutors can then use this visualization to establish interactive discussions concerning the “goodness” of the garment under observation.
- the GDF catalog is a tool for discovering and browsing the information contained in the GDF database.
- the GDF Editor is a tool for publishing the GDF catalog totally or partially through the web server and providing users of this web catalog with a consultation base.
- the GDF Diagram is an interactive communication system based on the definition of the specific role of the parties involved in the specific processes of the clothing supply chain. It presents itself as a privileged office tool which allows control of the progress of a stage with regard to each specific function performed by each particular service. This advancement is controlled by a series of advancement grids specific to each specific function performed allowing the particular visualization of the process.
- the specific step monitoring diagram is introduced in the GDF document when it is created.
- the diagram facilitates interactive communication within the GDF Organizer.
- GDF helps manage the total process by ensuring that quality, quantity, adequate rapid response and customer satisfaction are monitored, recorded and monitored.
- the GDF API Application program interface
- the GDF API is a tool allowing the extraction of detailed information and specifications as a result of a request made concerning a garment or as a result of an order to be discussed through the Studio and the GDF Viewer. , via XML parsers and interpreters (Extended tag language).
- the GDF Organizer captures information via API application interfaces as well as XML interpreters. Therefore, the user can use this system to read various documents.
- the material information on "Material.com” (a material site on the web) is captured through API and XML translators via the GDF Organizer. Through the Studio and the GDF Viewer, a user can call up the GDF links. This will ensure the connection with the many systems that frame the specifications and details of the order as well as requests concerning the garment. These systems include “Material.com” for incorporated materials and supplies and “Artwork.com” for embroidery, printing and manufacturing details. They also offer the "color palette” to define the colors.
- the GDF Organizer also offers a certain number of evolving buttons defined by the client. These are intended to facilitate the user in his definition of fashion accessories, items of clothing, etc. There is also a scalable optional toolbox, to help the user in his many requests.

- the method and the device for viewing, archiving and transmitting a garment model according to the invention on a computer network therefore appear to be tools offering numerous advantages in that the stages of appraisal, control, retouching, research of differentiation and personalization of prototypes of models of a brand are facilitated by a system-process, precise, easy to understand and to apply instead of relying only on the traditional diagram of a living mannequin with all its imperfections.
- This typical living figure can change in size over time (bigger or thinner) and moreover he or she is generally more or less asymmetrical.
- the body profile exhibited may therefore or may not comply with all dimensional and parametric conditions of the Claw while it must be as close as possible for the greatest satisfaction of the customers.
- this living mannequin cannot be extrapolated in all the sizes of the range but can only be defined through a measurement table in the targeted range of sizes to be declined.
- this living mannequin may be representative, in the study size, of the profile and measurements of a specific target population to be dressed, it is obviously not valid for other targets even though the models of clothing created may also be intended for them and must also satisfy them.
- the SW clothing visualization system offers the possibility for each specific sales target - and over the whole range of desired sizes - to objectively and subjectively ensure "good fit and comfort” by using a visualization tool to examine the garment, intended for mass production, tested on specific physical mannequins with the targeted profile (MPS), as well as on a specific virtual mannequin (MVS) or a specific virtual mode mannequin
- the SW integrates a visualization and communication system which allows, whatever the place and the distance, to any party involved in the clothing supply chain to access, discuss, modify, correct the process applied to the definition, development and acceptance control of a given product, by viewing the prototype sample (like mass production samples) and this on any size, ensuring the fit, the validity of the measurements as well as its realization in manufacturing.
- This facilitation is due to the fact that the sample garment under study (or series) can be examined (simultaneously or deferred, by all parties called upon to decide) on a fashion mannequin specific to the target targeted, in the size wanted in its double representation strictly identical, both physical and virtual.
- This visualization can be done under the various states of transparency, on the naked fashion mannequin as on the virtual fashion mannequin defined by the brand according to each target clientele, and this in relation to the other layers of clothing worn for s '' ensure both comfort, good fit, but also “look”. All images and information thus obtained through the SW can be electronically transmitted, stored in computerized memory and protected by security.
