Definitions
- the present invention relates to a protective device shielded to protect persons, equipment or others, projectiles or fragments generated directly or indirectly by the projectiles.
- People and / or materials to be protected can be found as well in vehicles of the aerial, terrestrial or marine type, only in buildings, shelters or any other place.
- US Patent 5,448,938 discloses a protective plate shielding device, strictly adapted to seats including for helicopters and of which each plate is appropriate for the dimensions of the components of the seat.
- This device comprises several rooms juxtaposed, linked between each containing a shielding plate and holding it at headquarters is provided by specific means of both on the seat and the device.
- this known device may have breaks in protection between adjoining rooms so it does not offer all the necessary guarantees.
- US Pat. No. 5,771,489 also discloses a armored bib for person, consisting of armor plates linked together by cylindrical joints which are located at the level of the edges of the plates. In some places, edges of two plates are thinned and overlap one on the other with a relative slip to cover the plates in case misalignment due to stresses on the plastron. On this area of overlapping plates are arranged elastic elements allowing the return in position of the plates when the constraints are relaxed.
- Such a breastplate of protection does not offer, there either, all the desired requirements. Indeed, the cylindrical joint presented linking two plates does not allow to obtain a significant angular deflection between two successive plates, so that the plastron can not adapt to contours any. Moreover, even if there is recovery between certain plates, there is relative sliding between said plates, although after a certain gap, continuity of protection is no longer assured.
- US Patent 5,395,671 discloses a fabric composed of high molecular weight polymer fibers and to obtain multi-layer clothing, resistant to some projectiles.
- Another US patent 6,127,291 teaches an anti-ballistic fabric composed of layers of cloth and of rubbery resin. If these tissues are effective with respect to the protection against the projectiles of handguns, in however, they are not suitable when it comes to more weapons powerful and do not have sufficient resistance to perforations. And a stack of several layers of these tissues to meet the protection objectives would lose all flexibility of use to these tissues.
- the present invention aims to overcome the disadvantages proposed solutions described above and it concerns a protective device whose design makes it possible to bring together the previously stated criteria for protection Max.
- a protection continuous and total is not only achieved when one does take the device a substantially straight configuration, but also when it is made to take a curved configuration and / or broken thanks to the receiving pockets of the elements avoiding the sliding of the latter and the means of connection articulated between pockets that keep the elements overlapping and prevent their distance from each other.
- This device can thus be compared to a hinged cover to overlap of constituent elements, thus being able to follow any surface to be protected without discontinuity.
- said elements of shielding have a substantially parallelepipedic shape with two parallel and opposite edges, said edges of a shielding element of one of the layers overlapping with the edges corresponding two adjacent shielding elements of the other layer.
- said pockets containing said Shielding elements are made of fabric.
- Each pocket can to be carried out in a broad way in relation to the element contains or the tissue of each of them can be at least partially elastic, to allow, on the one hand, the free angular deflection between the pockets and thus better follow the profile of the surface to be protected by keeping a contact overlapped shielding elements and, on the other hand, insertion and removal elements of the pockets.
- Each pocket also comprises a closure device fast.
- said means of connection between two consecutive alternating pockets and overlap of the first and second layers are of type with Velcro straps.
- each pocket of one of the layers is then equipped with two opposite velcro strips extending the parallel edges of the pocket around hinge lines, and each pocket of the other layer presents, on a large face of the pocket, two articulated self-gripping parallel strips, with which cooperate the corresponding Velcro strips two adjacent pockets of the opposite layer.
- said connecting means between two consecutive alternating and overlapping pockets of the first and second layers may have a elastic band whose longitudinal edges are fixed on a large pocket face of a layer and its middle part is attached to the lateral edge in correspondence of the pocket of the other layer.
- auxiliary elements may be provided in the spaces left between said shielding elements of each layer. They preferably have a parallelepipedal shape with a thickness substantially the same as that of the shielding elements, which ensures the continuity of the device.
- said auxiliary elements may be flexible elements and / or shielding elements as well. So, the device could have flexible auxiliary elements or shielded on both layers or on one of the layers only, according to the desired requirements.
- the auxiliary elements are housed in receiving pockets. These pockets containing said auxiliary elements are then reported fixed, removably, on the corresponding pockets containing said shielding elements.
- said pockets containing the elements of the two layers are housed in a reception cover, ensuring a complete cohesion to all the elements and facilitating in particular its transport and its implementation.
- said pockets are maintained in position in said cover via self-gripping strips.
- said cover comprises two compartments superimposed one of which contains the two layers of elements (turned towards the zone of aggression) and the other contains a protective mattress (facing the area to be protected (people, materials)).
- said cover has flaps for closing said compartments and is provided with gripping means for his transport.
- Figure 1 shows schematically a device for protection with shielding elements whose arrangement is in conformity to the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view showing a shielding element and its receiving pocket.
- FIGS 3 and 4 show, in schematic perspective, an embodiment of the connection means between the pockets, by Velcro strips.
- FIG. 5 represents, in cross-section, a device preferred protection, in rectilinear configuration of the elements of shielding.
- Figures 6 and 7 show the device of Figure 5 respectively with a convex curvature and a curvature concave said pockets with shielding elements.
- Figure 8 shows, in cross-section, a mode of preferred embodiment with two compartments of the protective device according to the invention, with shielding elements and elements Auxiliary.
- FIG. 9 is a partial perspective of said device of the figure 8.
- Figure 10 is a cross-section of the different layers of the second compartment.
- Figure 11 schematically represents another mode of realization of said connecting means.
- Figures 12 and 13 show another embodiment of shielding elements, with two separate configurations.
- Figure 14 shows in perspective a shielding element preferred with common linkage means to all pockets.
- Figure 15 schematically represents an application particular of said protection device according to the invention.
- the protective device 1 schematically illustrated and partially in Figure 1 consists of a plurality of elements 2 associated with each other by means of link 3 and intended to ensure adequate protection of people and / or equipment against projectiles and shards.
- the nature of the materials constituting such shielding elements may be of any known type and will not be described here.
- the shielding elements 2 are arranged in two layers 4 and 5 alternately superposed by relation to others and so that two consecutive elements between the first layer 4 and the second layer 5 overlap.
- the protection conferred by the device 1 is continues and extends over all its surface since there is overlap shielding elements 2 in the manner of the tiles of a roof overlapping.
- the shielding elements 2 also designated modules by following, may have any shape and thickness according to the surfaces to be protected and present in this example a parallelepipedal shape such as that shown in FIG. 2, that is to say with two large opposite lateral faces 2A, two small opposite side faces 2B and two transverse faces opposite 2C.
- the two lateral parallel edges 2D of the first layer 4 modules cover the parallel edges 2D side of the modules of the second layer 5.
- each pocket 6 has a configuration substantially similar to that of modules 2 although dimensionally larger for insertion and removal of the module.
- Each pocket 6 has two large faces 6A, two small side faces 6B, one of which constitutes an articulated flap 6C around a longitudinal fold line 6D and intended to enclose the module 2 in the pocket, and two faces transverse 6E.
- a closure device for the pocket is provided and is defined in this embodiment, by a self-gripping strip 7A fixed to the flap 6C and cooperating with a self-gripping strip corresponding 7B, provided on the open longitudinal edge 6F of the big face 6A of the pocket. Any other means of closure could also be considered.
- a fabric is preferred from the moment it offers a good resistance to use and, in particular, good resistance to traction to withstand the forces induced by the deformations when setting up the device 1.
- the connecting means 3 are type with Velcro strips 8, 9 because of the simplicity of implementation of such a link.
- the pockets 6 for example containing the modules of the first layer 4 have two opposite and identical lateral bands 8, attached by sewing or otherwise to edges or angles 6G parallel of a 6A main face with its small faces 6B, which edges define hinge lines 8A bands. These can also be reported on flaps on the pocket.
- Such a pocket 6 can be designated male pocket.
- the pockets 6 containing the modules of the second layer 5 also comprise two self-gripping strips 9 that are reported, not at the edges side, but directly on the large face 6A of the pocket, parallel to the side edges 6G.
- Each band 9 is folded in the direction of its length, so that a half-band 9A is attached to the face of the pocket and that the other half-band 9B extends the previous around the fold line 9C of the band.
- a such pocket 6 is then designated female pocket.
- connection between two consecutive alternating pockets (male - female) of the first and second layers 4, 5 simply, without difficulty, by inserting one of the sidebands Velcro 8 of the male pocket between the two half-bands Velcro 9A, 9B of the female pocket, and then folding the free half-band 9B against the half-band 9A fixed on the large 6A face of the pocket, which has the effect of enveloping said strip 8 and hang the strips securely together.
- the arrangement of the folded strips 9 on the pockets 6 of a layer is such that, when the strips 8 of the pockets of the other layer are inserted into the folded strips, the edges 2D side of the modules contained in the pockets overlap.
- Such a connection between three consecutive alternating pockets (two male pockets of the first layer 4 and a female pocket of the second layer 5) of a protective device 1 is illustrated schematically in Figure 5. The thickness of the bands has been exaggerated for the sake of clarity.
- the device portion 1 shown in FIG. 5 applies in particular to the protection of equipment or other symbolically illustrated by a flat surface S and located in the zone to be protected ZP (opposite ZA aggression zone from where come projectiles), so that the pockets 6 of modules 2 are substantially straight and overlap two to two.
- the portion of the device 1 can effectively protect a convex surface S through overlapping modules and soft links 3 advantageously provided on the receiving pockets 6.
- end modules 2 of the first layer can rotate around the lateral edges 6G of said female pocket of the second layer.
- the represented portion of device 1 protects a concave surface S.
- the pivoting of the modules of the male pockets takes place at the level of 8A hinge lines of the female pockets containing the modules, which "rise up" around lines.
- the reception pockets 6 have a certain extent compared to the shielding modules 2, as the shows exaggeratedly Figure 6, the fabric is deformed somewhat but maintains an overlap between the different modules of shielding.
- the device 1 may comprise elements auxiliary devices 11 ensuring the continuity of the device and having, for this, a parallelepipedic shape with substantially the same than the initial elements 2.
- These elements or auxiliary modules 11 may be flexible elements, not residuals, absorbing impacts and protecting against rear deformations of shielding elements, or even shielding elements or other. Again, they are each housed in a receiving pocket 12 of identical design to the previous (fabric and closure device).
- the device obtained 1 with the shielding modules 2 and the auxiliary modules 11 is shown in FIG. 8, a space being left between the auxiliary modules and the shielding modules to maintain their angular freedom around the connecting means 3, and thus allow the device 1 to best follow the surfaces to protect.
- the protective device 1 may also include a cover 15 enveloping the two layers of modules 4 and 5 for ensure complete cohesion in this set of elements or modules.
- the cover 15 contains, in a first compartment 16, all two layers 4, 5 of modules 2, 11 which are arranged transversely to its length, that is to say in the sense of its width, and in a second compartment 17 superimposed to the first, a protective mat 18 of the anti-traumatic type.
- This protective device 1 is of course arranged way to present its first compartment 16 facing the area Aggression ZA and its second compartment 17 turned to the area to protect ZP (person, material, ...), as shown in the figure 8.
- each compartment 16 and 17 is closed by cooperating flaps 15B whose closure is obtained using hook-and-loop fastening system, not shown, facilitating maintenance operations and subsequent maintenance.
- shock absorption device 20 can be provided in the first compartment 16, being located between the cover and the modules of the first layer. This carpet 20 can be reported on the flaps of the second compartment.
- the anti-traumatic mattress 18 ensures both the protection against rear deformation of the modules shielding 2 as a result of bullet or other impacts from zone of aggression ZA, and the comfort of sitting or support as we will see it in figure 15.
- This double function is thus optimized by combination of damping layers 18A, known in itself and having different thicknesses, densities and hardnesses and as shown in Figure 10.
- grips holding the device can be attached to the cover with a planned passage through she.
- Straps with a length adjustment system for the hooking and holding of the entire device can be also fixed with a passage through the cover, which allows to fix and adapt the device as best as possible fastening not originally planned for this purpose.
- connection means 3 have been described by flexible articulation with self-gripping bands 8, 9 between the pockets receiving modules, other means could be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention, such as by sliding closures, seams, hinges flexible or rigid, by riveting or stapling.
- connection means 3 An alternative embodiment of the connection means 3 will be described below with reference to Figure 11.
- the magnitude of each pocket could be obtained directly by the very nature of the pocket that could be achieved at least partially or even in all, in an elastic fabric.
- the elastic band 21 is arranged parallel to the side edges of the pockets 6 (and modules) and is attached, by seams or others 22, to its longitudinal ends 21A, at the face 6A of a pocket, way close to its edge, and in the middle 21 B, to the edge corresponding 6G of the other pocket 6 whose edge covers the one from the previous pocket.
- FIG. variant An alternative embodiment of the elements or modules of 2 is also shown in FIG. variant, two identical and parallel bevels 2E are arranged at the longitudinal corners of the same large face 2A of a module.
- This arrangement facilitates the angular movement between the pockets consecutive 6 wrapping modules and overlapping alternatively, around the linking means 3 symbolized by a black circle on the figure.
- the presence of these chamfers 2E allows to avoid tensions in the fabric of the pockets 6, especially when the device 1 protects a convex surface as in FIG. 7, since the modules of the first layer can rotate freely around the articulation lines 8A by creating the chamfers.
- the modules are arranged in the same direction with the chamfers turned towards the high, it is necessary to have two types of pockets (mâlet female) with the connecting means 3.
- Figure 13 shows a configuration where the modules 2 contained in the pockets 6 are arranged so head-to-tail and the hinge line of the connecting means 3 (symbolized by a black circle) is located on the 2F edges between the chamfer 2E and the corresponding face 2A of the modules vis-à-vis.
- the advantage of this configuration is that a unique model of pocket 6 is necessary and whatever the type of means of link 3 between the pockets of the shielding modules. Indeed, even in the case of Velcro strips 8, 9, the provision of these on the pockets becomes unique, as shown in FIG. 14.
- One of the edges 2F defining the line 8A bears the Velcro strip 8, while the other edge 2F carries the strip folded 9.
- This last embodiment is particularly advantageous insofar as it makes it possible to standardize the pockets of reception, the modules and the means of connection and to simplify assembly.
- the protective device 1 covers, in the manner articulated cover, seat or bench 25, by example of a helicopter, so as to isolate as much as possible the occupants (ZP area) of projectiles fired from the ground (zone ZA).
- the cover all two layers, with the first compartment containing the pockets 6 with modules 2 in contact with the seat 25 and the second compartment with anti-traumatic mattress supporting the occupant.
- the overlapping of the modules 2 continuously protects the occupant (s) while being able to adapt to the shape of the seat thanks to the means of connection 3 permitting their pivoting.
- Keeping the device in position protection 1 on seat 25 can be provided with or without addition of support straps.
- the installation of the protection device is carried out without pre-adaptation of the place of use by a system of straps with quick adjustment and fixation.
- the modules are also easily interchangeable or replaceable thanks to quick disassembly of articulation links and opening fast pockets.
- the device can be placed on floors, floors, benches, walls or any other surface and even suspended and take concave and / or convex configurations to several points of inflection.
