Description

Open air electrical socket
The present invention is related to an electric socket, especially for outdoor illumination.
By installation of outdoor lightening on buildings and such, an authorized electrician is necessary to ensure that the electrical connections are in correspondence with the regulations. During the building process sockets in some cases are prepared for installation of a connection box. For installation of outdoor lightening, such as a lamp, it is well known that the cable in many cases is clamped in an unsatisfactory way.
With the outdoor electric socket according to the present invention, as defined with the features stated in the claims, the above mentioned disadvantages and limitations by prior art embodiments, are avoided. Additionally further advantages are achieved as the claim for stock holding for the suppliers, is substantially decreased. Furthermore, there is no claim for an authorized electrician when installing an outdoor lamp as all lamps are double insulated and no extra earth connection is needed. Domestic houses may be provided with an outdoor connection point for an open air lamp already during construction, allowing the owner to take the time needed to decide which lamp should be selected and when purchased the owner easily can install the lamp. Furthermore the principle may be used in other connections, such as for lightening of roads and other open air lightening. Installation or insertion of a lamp into an open air electric socket may be performed by unskilled personnel without any danger for flashover or such.
The drawing discloses in figure 1 one example of an outdoor electric socket according to the present invention, installed in a lamp socket for open air lightening on a house, figure 2 discloses a lightening column for street lightening and figure 3 discloses enlarged the top of the lightening column in figure 2.
The electric socket according to the present invention comprises a socket 1 for connection of electrical cables to at least two connection apertures corresponding to the standard electric socket. The socket 1 is mounted in a frame comprising securing means for a lamp. The securing means may comprise grooves in the lower end of the frame 5 and a threaded hole 6 in the upper end of the frame, respectively securing means above and below the socket 1.
The socket according to the invention may be covered by a plate 7 corresponding with the frame 5 and having a cover 4 corresponding with the cover 3 in such a way that the covers 3 and 4 ensures sealing when a lamp is mounted to the socket. One or both of the connections 3 and 4 may have a conical shape to ensure good sealing when installed in one another. A plate 7 without a lamp may be provided to be secured to the socket by means of securement means to completely isolate and capsulate the open air contact against moisture.
A lamp is adapted for securement to the socket and being mounted to the plate 7 adjusted to the securement means of the socket and having a cover adjusted to the cover 3 of the socket. Furthermore, the lamp comprises plug pins 2 to be inserted to corresponding holes in the socket 1 as standard electric socket. Furthermore, the socket 1 may be provided by a guiding pin for receipt in corresponding hole in the lamp.
Figure 2 discloses an electric pylon for example as street lightening, having an upper part which is disclosed enlarged in figure 3, being adapted for securement of four street lamps. The street lamps easily may be secured by placing the securement means of the plate 7 in the corresponding securement means on the top of the pylon and being secured to the upper part of the plate 7, for example by a screw.
The securement means for the plate 7 may be of other designs, for example with a catching means. The shape of the electrical socket according to the present invention makes replacement of electrical bulbs in the open air lamp easy by dismounting the lamp from the electrical socket and replacing the bulb as such on a suitable place.
The shape of the electrical socket according to the present invention furthermore provides possibilities for treatment of the walls having such sockets, such as painting, without any hindrance from the lamp as such, the work to be done easily may be performed. In case the walls later should be painted, the outdoor lamps easily are dismounted during the painting and mounted again after the painting is completed, without the need for calling an electrical contractor.
