Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur Verbesserung der Grauwertauflösung bei einer pulsbreitengesteuerten Bildanzeigevorrichtung Dabei wird das für eine Bilddarstellung zur Verfugung stehende Zeitintervall in aufeinanderfolgende gewichtete Teilzeitintervalle aufgeteilt, wobei die Teilzeitintervalle Aktivierungssequenzen beinhalten, die wiederum aus jeweils vorgegebenen Anzahlen von Sustain-Pulsen bestehen Wird durch Analyse eines darzustellenden Bildes erkannt, dass ein dunkles Bild ohne größere helle Bildanteile vorliegt, wird in Abhängigkeit von den ermittelten Bildhelligkeitsverhältnissen einerseits die Anzahl der Sustain-Pulse für alle Aktivierungssequenzen die innerhalb eines Zeitintervalls für die Darstellung des Bildes liegen, um einen den ermittelten Bildhelligkeitsverhältnissen zugeordneten Prozentsatz verändert und andererseits das Videosignal im Analogteil des Videosignalweges so beeinflusst, das die durch die Veränderung der Anzahl der Sustain-Pulse bedingte Veränderung der Bildhelligkeit zumindest teilweise kompensiert wird Dadurch wird eine Verbesserung der Grauwertauflösung beim Vorliegen dunkler Bilder erreicht.
