Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an expansion and/or construction joint for concrete flooring and the like.
  • Slab floorings made of concrete, reinforced concrete and the like are known. These are employed in industrial as well as in civil environments, in this latter case e.g. for the flooring of open-air spaces or for the making of self-supporting floors.
  • Such floorings generally comprise a so-called expansion and/or construction joint, schematically shown in Figure 1 in a partially sectional perspective view.
  • known-art joints typically comprise a tubular sleeve 100 and a dowel or pin 200 apt to be inserted therein, both having a cylindrical contour.
  • the pin 200 and the sleeve 100 are buried in respective flooring slabs, which are partitioned by sections 300.
  • the pin 200 is partially inserted within the sleeve 100, thereby implementing a slidadable coupling therebetween in a direction transversal to the sections 300 of the joint itself.
  • US 5,941,045 discloses a concrete slab socket wherein a relative transversal movement between adjacent concrete slabs is permitted since a sleeve has a cross sectional shape which has a transverse dimension greater than an upright dimension, so allowing a limited transverse movement of a dowel bar or pin.
  • This embodiment discloses also a connector for mounting said sleeve on a slab, but said connector does not allow to selectively prevent the lateral movement of a part of said pin with respect to the slabs.
  • the technical problem underlying the present invention is that of providing an expansion and/or construction joint allowing to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above.
  • the present invention provides some relevant advantages.
  • the main advantage lies in the fact that the joint of the invention, further providing a transversal degree of freedom, instead of a mere longitudinal one, in the relative motion between pin and sleeve, improves the structure adaptability to thermal deformation, settlement and the like phenomena, thereby decreasing the likelihood of these phenomena causing cracks, fissures or breakings in general.
  • an expansion and/or construction joint according to the invention is generally indicated by 10.
  • the joint 10 is employed in the making of vast area floorings, constituted e.g. by plates made of precast concrete, cast reinforced concrete, flat slab floors and the like.
  • the joint 10 comprises at least one sleeve 1, apt to receive in slidadable coupling a corresponding pin or round bar 2, substantially cylinder-shaped and generally made of iron.
  • the latter will hereinafter be referred to as reinforcement pin, since, as it will be made apparent also hereinafter, it is made integral as a single body with the reinforced concrete casting of a respective flooring portion.
  • a longitudinal seat 11 for receiving the expansion pin 2.
  • such longitudinal seat 11 has a cross section such as to provide a lateral mobility of said pin 2 within the sleeve 1.
  • such lateral mobility is provided by the fact that said cross-section has a substantially elongated shape, in particular elliptical or oval.
  • the seat 11 provides a first transversal dimension of greater extension, indicated by a reference height 12 in Figure 5 , and a second transversal dimension of smaller extension, indicated by a reference height 121 and having an extension comparable to the diameter of the pin 2.
  • the sleeve 1 has a pair of side flaps 13, which are substantially parallel to the transversal dimension of greater extension 12 of the sleeve itself and develop along the entire longitudinal extension thereof.
  • the flaps 13 project within the seat 11, at opposite sides thereof, and - during the mounting of the joint 10 - allow centering the reinforcement pin 2 in the sleeve 1, in such a way that the longitudinal expansion of the joint 10 may occur, once it is installed, equally in both verses of the sliding.
  • the flaps 13 also allow limiting the amplitude of the side motion of the expansion pin 2, as well as guiding its sliding within the sleeve 1.
  • the flaps 13 are made of an easily disgregable polymeric material.
  • the sleeve 1 has an outer contour that substantially duplicates that of its internal seat 11.
  • the sleeve 1 is made of PVC or of other polymer plastic material.
  • the sleeve of the joint of the invention is susceptible of several variant embodiments alternative to the hereto-described one, according to which the same sleeve is made of different materials and/or has a different shape, in particular concerning the cross section of its internal longitudinal seat.
  • FIG. 6 and 7 Two such preferred variant embodiments are depicted in Figures 6 and 7 , showing each a cross-sectional view analogous to that of Figure 5 of a respective sleeve.
  • the same reference number has denoted elements analogous to that of the embodiment shown in Figure 5 .
  • a sleeve according to the invention in this case indicated by 201, has a substantially rectangular overall cross section, and a substantially elliptical internal seat 11. Moreover, always in such variant embodiment, the sleeve 201 has, at its external surface, a knurling 140 in order to make a friction coupling with a tubular connector of the same joint that will be introduced later on.
  • a sleeve according to the invention in this case indicated by 20, provides a longitudinal seat, here indicated by 21, having a substantially rectangular cross section that may simplify the production process of the sleeve itself.
  • the joint 10 comprises the abovementioned tubular connector 3.
  • the tubular connector 3 has a longitudinal internal seat having a cross section analogous to that of the sleeve 1, apt to receive an end portion of the latter therein, which end portion corresponds to the inlet section of the pin 2 into the sleeve 1 itself.
  • the joint 10 further comprises a pair of junction plates or sheets, indicated by 4 and 5, respectively, preferably metallic and apt to be arranged parallel and side-by-side along the entire length of the joint itself, so as to be facing one another at the junction between two flooring slabs or sectors of the entire flooring area.
  • each junction plate 4, 5 consists of a substantially L-shaped metal sheet section.
  • Each one of the sheets 4 and 5 has one or more seats for allowing the passage therethrough of the reinforcement pin 2 and, depending on the specific construction, of the tubular connector 3 and/or of the sleeve 1.
  • one sheet of the pair of sheets, and specifically that denoted by 5 has a plurality of seats 510 having a substantially elliptical contour, each seat being apt to allow the passage of a sleeve 1.
  • each seat 510 be apt to receive both the sleeve 1 and the connector 3 housing the sleeve itself.
  • the other sheet of the pair i.e. in this case that denoted by 4, further has seats 410 having a substantially circular contour, coaxial to the ellipsoidal seats 510 and each apt to allow the passage of a pin 2.
  • the sheets 4 and 5 are prearranged for the reciprocal joining, e.g. for an on-site joining by means of simple bolts and nuts of an easy shearing.
  • sheets 4 and 5 provide holes apt to receive conventional joining elements, like e.g. bolts, as it is shown in Figure 4 .
  • the joint 10 of the present embodiment further comprises an infill panel 6, in particular a sheath made of expanded closed-cell polyethylene or of other polymeric material, apt to be interposed between said sheets 4 and 5.
  • an infill panel 6 in particular a sheath made of expanded closed-cell polyethylene or of other polymeric material, apt to be interposed between said sheets 4 and 5.
  • such panel 6 has seats matching those obtained onto the sheets 4 and 5 and it is prearranged for the joining therebetween in the terms described above.
  • the joint 10 comprises at least a pair of stirrups, generically indicated by 71 and 72, typically made of Iron, e.g. of a round bar for concrete casting, and each associated with a respective sheet 4 or 5.
  • the purpose of these stirrups is to improve the setting of the concrete casting forming the end flooring onto the joint 10.
  • stirrups 71 and 72 are welded to the respective sheet 4 or 5 of the joint so as to form the reinforcement of the joint itself, in order to make the latter integral as a single body with a respective flooring portion delimited by the sheet 4 or 5.
  • the weldings may be carried out directly on-site and laid to prepare the casting of the entire flooring.
  • the sheets 4 and 5 rest on the bottom of the flooring, at the shorter side of the "L” and arranged so that the longer side of the "L” be vertical. Moreover, the sheets 4 and 5 are reversably joined the one to the other by the abovementioned bolts at the longer side of the "L", with the infill panel 6 interposed therebetween and so that the seats 510 and 410 be coaxial.
  • each tubular connector 3 is secured at the inlet of a respective elliptical seat 510 of the sheet 5 at one end thereof, e.g. by welding, adhesive or other processes.
  • each tubular connector may be inserted in a respective elliptical seat of the sheet 5 and be secured thereto at its side wall, e.g. by welding, forced coupling with adhesive or other processes.
  • tubular connector 3 is located on a single side of the joint 10 and it is secured to only one of the sheets of the latter, in order to provide an improved mobility thereto.
  • the connector 3 receives, at a first inlet section thereof located at a side opposite to the sheet 5, an end portion of the sleeve 1, which may frictionally be held therein by a slightly forced coupling and/or by the knurlings 140 provided in the embodiments of Figures 6 and 7 . Furthermore, at the opposite inlet section the connector 3 receives the reinforcement pin 2, which in turn is inserted into the sleeve 1 nearly for the entire longitudinal extension thereof.
  • the end of the sleeve 1 opposite to that of inlet of the pin 2 may be closed by a cap, e.g. in PVC or in polymeric material, as it is schematically shown in Figure 3b .
  • a joint for flooring of the type considered here consists of a plurality of sleeves 1, advantageously spaced according to a constant pitch along one of the sheets of the joint, in this case the sheet denoted by 5, and of a corresponding plurality of respective reinforcement pins 2.
  • each stirrup 71, 72 is secured to each sheet 4, 5, near the junction therebetween and at the face external with respect to said junction.

  • the arrangement is such that the stirrups 71 and 72 of each pair are arranged, in a plan view, at opposite sides with respect to the junction between the sheets 4, 5, and staggered the one with respect to the other.
  • all of the hereto-described structure is meant to be covered by an optionally reinforced concrete casting or the like, so as to implement a junction between adjacent slabs or surface portions of the end flooring.
  • the resulting flooring may be impressed with conventional processes and/or undergo any other processing or treatment.
  • tubular connector 3 allows to connect the sleeve 1 to the sheet 5 by a mere coupling, thereby further improving the mobility of the structure and the ease of on-site installation of the entire joint structure.
  • tubular connector 30 an alternative embodiment of the tubular connector according to the invention is generally indicated by 30.
  • the connector 30 comprises a first tubular portion 31 of greater cross section, having a substantially elongated cross section, and in particular substantially elliptical or ovoidal.
