Definitions
- the present invention relates to coated textile materials which are useful i.a. suitable for outdoor applications or in wet rooms and are especially durable under extreme environmental conditions.
- Textile-based sheet materials intended to withstand extreme environmental stresses, e.g. high humidity, rain and water spray, temperature fluctuations, intense sunlight and / or frequent treatment with detergents, are usually coated with PVC.
- the properties of such materials are very good.
- PVC is questionable and should be avoided if possible.
- For its production and its application as a coating material of textiles is associated with heavy environmental impact, as well as the disposal of this material.
- toxic gases such as hydrogen chloride
- VeoVa stands in this name for vinyl esters of tertiary carboxylic acids (eg so-called versatic acids). VeoVa's have long been used for copolymerization with vinyl acetate, for example for emulsion paints, plasters or concrete admixtures, such as from EP 874 871 B1 seen. Copolymers of VeoVa's with acrylates are commercially available, which sells them mainly for the production of plasters and paints.
- PVC is a very inexpensive material. It is therefore used in textile coatings in high proportions and because of its favorable properties.
- the object of the present invention is to provide coated or impregnated textile materials which, in particular with regard to their chemical and mechanical cleaning stability (eg with respect to high-pressure cleaners or brush cleaners), water resistance and weathering stability, but also other environmental influences, have similarly good properties as PVC, but are environmentally friendly too are processed, release no toxic gases in case of fire and are inexpensive to produce.
- chemical and mechanical cleaning stability eg with respect to high-pressure cleaners or brush cleaners
- water resistance and weathering stability but also other environmental influences
- the invention is applicable to all textile materials intended to be provided with binder-containing coatings or impregnations. All textile fabrics can be coated or impregnated, irrespective of the way in which their fibers are bonded to one another, eg woven fabrics, nonwovens, knitted fabrics, etc.
- the material provided for the textile fabric can also be selected freely, depending on the intended use. If necessary, the mechanical stress of the fibers must be taken into account.
- the selection of the carrier materials is carried out in a suitable manner.
- support materials made of synthetic fibers (polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile or other such fibers) for the use of external sun protection, external blinds, landfill covers, room dividers for wet rooms and the like can be used.
- synthetic fibers polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile or other such fibers
- room dividers for wet rooms and the like
- materials according to the invention are intended for applications which are associated with high mechanical loads, high-strength polyester filaments, glass filaments or para-aramid fibers, for example, can be used as carrier materials.
- Carrier materials made of incombustible or flame retardant materials eg, glass fibers, aramid fibers, melamine resin fibers, ceramic fibers, etc., or by additional equipment flame-retardant fibers
- the expert will then consider especially when an application is provided in especially against fires to be protected or fire-prone environment, for example if the inventive Textile materials for Escape route boundaries or wall coverings, especially in tunnel wall cladding, in exhibition construction, in stage construction or the like. are provided.
- the textile substrates can be provided on one or both sides with the coating according to the invention.
- This coating may be present as a single or as one of several coatings. Alternatively (possibly also in addition) they may be provided with an impregnation which has been applied by impregnating the textile material or another customary impregnation technique.
- the coating / impregnation according to the invention may consist essentially or exclusively of binder.
- This may in addition to the acrylate / VeoVa copolymer contain other conventional binders, for example polymers based on acrylic acid esters, polyvinyl alcohol, polyurethane, latices or highly crosslinkable resins such as melamine resins, which are preferably halogen-free and which, also preferably, are crosslinkable so that they are fixed accordingly can be.
- the binder consists predominantly, particularly preferably exclusively or almost exclusively, of acrylate / VeoVa copolymer.
- the binder is used in the form of a solution, emulsion, dispersion or suspension, with which the textile substrate is coated or impregnated. If the paste is too thin, the viscosity can be adjusted with a thickening agent (e.g., an acrylic acid ester). Possibly. suitable crosslinking catalysts are added to the paste.
- a thickening agent e.g., an acrylic acid ester
- the coating / impregnation according to the invention may also contain other constituents which influence its properties.
- a coated or impregnated material which has fire-retardant properties and is suitable, for example, for lining tunnels.
- the coating / impregnation in addition to the binder and possibly further substances before all a strong fire-retardant material such as expanded graphite and / or a phosphorus-containing material, such as polyammonium phosphate.
- a strong fire retardant material such as expanded graphite and / or a phosphorus-containing material, such as polyammonium phosphate.
- the fire-retardant material can be added to the coating mixture in suitable form, for example in powder, granule or flake form, if it is a solid material.
- the ratio of binder to fire-retardant agent for example, and in particular to expandable graphite, can be freely selected in a suitable manner, it being of course favorable to provide a high proportion of flame retardant, for example 10-80 wt .-%, based on all components of the coating material ,
- the upper limit is usually determined by the mechanical properties of the cured coating: In the case of a solid flame retardant such as expanded graphite, it must be ensured that sufficient binder is present in order to integrate the flame retardant in the layer in a mechanically stable manner.
- the lower limit is determined by the flame retardancy of the material obtained:
- the coating should contain a sufficient amount of flame retardant, so that its flame retardancy and possibly achieved by the increase in volume insulation effect is fully effective.
- these are generally at least about 30 g of expandable graphite per square meter of textile material, preferably about 50 to 500 g / qm.
- the fire retardant coating described above further contains a white pigment, for example titanium dioxide, alabaster brilliant white, kaolin or a similar material.
- a white pigment-containing layer can also be applied to the finished coating material before or after curing, which may likewise contain a binder. If the white pigment is incorporated into the expandable graphite-containing coating mixture, it is favorable to provide about 3-10% by weight of white pigment, based on the total weight of the paste. If the white pigment is applied as an additional coating on the expandable graphite coating, it is sufficient to apply only a small amount of about 2-10 g / m 2.
- the white pigment can be used for this purpose as a slurry in suitable suspension or setting agents and, for example, in an amount of about 1: 4 of a suspension or dispersion of a suitable binding or crosslinking agent, in particular consisting or mainly consisting of VeoVa / acrylate copolymer, are mixed, as indicated above for the expandable graphite-containing coating mixture.
- a suitable binding or crosslinking agent in particular consisting or mainly consisting of VeoVa / acrylate copolymer
- the coating or impregnating material may optionally contain other ingredients as commonly used, e.g. Dyes or pigments, thickening agents, buffers or specific pH adjusters, stabilizers, fillers and the like.
- the coated / impregnated textile materials of the present invention particularly resistant to chemical and, above all, severe mechanical cleaning (e.g., high pressure cleaners or brush cleaners, which are widely used in, for example, truck tarpaulins or tunnel covers), their surface may be suitably modified. This can be done, for example, by hydrophobicizing the surface and / or by improving its mechanical resistance values.
- hydrophobic e.g. Fluorcarbonharze, paraffin waxes, silicones or polytetrafluoroethylene dispersions are incorporated into the coating / impregnating mixture according to the invention, if this is provided alone or as a single or top layer.
- Additional crosslinking by means of a further crosslinking agent can also improve the mechanical stability and possibly render the coating more hydrophobic.
- the uppermost layer can be impregnated with a suitable hydrophobizing agent, or a topcoat is applied, which is particularly scratch-resistant.
- Other options include coating or impregnation with materials that produce certain surface structures with extremely good soil release properties (e.g., so-called "lotus effect” "nanocoatings”) or plasma treatment with hydrophobizing gases.
- the coating hardness is well controllable by the mixing ratio of hard and soft polymers.
- the person skilled in the art will accordingly select polymers with suitable glass transition temperatures for the respective intended use.
- Different variants of acrylate / VeoVa copolymers with different degrees of hardness are commercially available.
- a coating is provided on the textile material, it is preferably applied to the textile material in the form of a paste or a foam.
- the application can be carried out by doctoring, e.g. Roller doctoring, brushing or any other method, the selection of which will depend inter alia on the viscosity of the coating material.
- the suitable amounts can be easily determined by a person skilled in the art, for example a wet application of 25-400 g / m 2 is favorable.
- excess solvent or dispersing agent is removed, e.g. by drying, and the spread paste is calendered or otherwise solidified / cured depending on the nature of the components present, e.g.
- a self-curing crosslinkable component may also be present. It may also be appropriate to apply the coating material to the textile material in more than one operation, and after each operation or only after application of the entire coating material, a solidification step, e.g. after drying, provide.
- the coating formed in this way is to be coated with one or more layers (for example a white pigment paste or a top coat), the required drying or hardening steps can also be carried out only after several or even all layers have been applied.
- layers for example a white pigment paste or a top coat
- the batch was foamed with a Hansamixer (foam weight 260 g / l) and applied to a Mageba coating system by the roll-doctoring method with a gap height of 0.85 mm. This resulted in a total basis weight of 370 g / m2 at a thickness of 0.3 mm.
- the coated fabric was calendered immediately after drying (80-140 ° C) hot (140 ° C roll temperature) (line pressure: 180 N / mm).
- the approach with a viscosity of 1.7-1.8 Pas was coated on a Brückner clamping frame by the air knife method 3 times on one side.
- the coating was dried and crosslinked at 150 ° C. for 90 sec.
- the coating weight is 150 gsm dry.
- the visible wave spectrum was measured from 400 to 700 nm.
- a sample of the material was soiled and cleaned with a high pressure cleaner. After a relatively short cleaning time, a very good cleaning result was obtained; the coating remained undamaged.
