Description
Description
Industrial process for the realisation of solid wood doors
The present patent application relates to an industrial process for the realisation of solid wood doors, whose sides consist in two panels with solid wood boards, some with vertical grain and some with horizontal grain.
Patent protection is also claimed for doors obtained with the process of the invention.
The great originality of the process of the invention will become evident after a comparison with the industrial technique that is currently used for the realisation of solid wood doors as described below.
It must be said that solid wood doors of industrial type are never made of a single large panel of solid wood. This is because it is not possible to ensure dimensional stability, since wood is very sensitive to temperature and, most of all, humidity variations that cause deformation directly proportional to the dimensions of the board.
In view of the above, whenever doors with natural grain are to be produced, it is necessary to use covering panels of multi-layer wood, being the only material that can guarantee the dimensional stability of a monolithic wood panel with the same area as an ordinary door.
An alternative to this model of doors covered with multi-layer wood panels is represented by solid wood doors consisting in a stiff bearing frame composed of two or more solid wood boards connected by two or more solid wood crosspieces in order to form a frame with reticular configuration, in which covering solid wood panels are placed.
On the contrary, according to the process of the invention, the two covering panels of the door are made of solid wood boards, placed one next to the other and glued, some with vertical grain and some with horizontal grain.
Based on the method of the invention the external covering panels are
glued on the two opposite sides of a bearing intermediate panel that comprises a wooden perimeter frame with the same dimensions as the two external panels and is filled with alternate series of solid wood strips, each of them with orthogonal grain with respect to the boards of the external panels. The great dimensional stability of the door realised with the process of the invention results from the crossed arrangement of the grain of the wooden strips of the bearing intermediate panel with respect to the wooden boards of the two external covering panels.
For major clarity the description of the process of the present invention continues with reference to the enclosed drawings, which are intended for purposes of illustration and not in a limiting sense, whereby:
- Figures 1 to 5 show the sequence of operational steps according to the process of the invention.
With reference to the aforementioned figures, the process of the invention comprises the following operations:
- preparation of panels (1) formed by gluing multiple solid wood boards (1a) placed in vertical position one next to the other, with each panel (1) having the dimensions of the door (P) to be realised, as shown in fig. 1 ;
- removal of one or more horizontal strips (2) from each panel (1), with length (a) lower than the width (b) of the panels (1), creating horizontal windows (3) corresponding to the wooden strips (2) that have been sawn and cut out, as shown in fig. 2;
- mounting of pre-assembled inserts (4) in the windows (3), each of them obtained by gluing together different solid wood boards (4a), in order to realise finished covering panels (5) characterised by the fact that they are composed of solid wood boards glued together, some (1a) with vertical grain and some (4a) with horizontal grain, as shown in fig. 3;
- preparation of a wood bearing frame, as shown in fig. 4, composed of a panel (6) with the same dimensions as the covering panels (5) and formed by a perimeter frame (6a) stiffened by crosspieces (6b), filled by multiple alternate series of solid wood strips (7a and 7b), each of them with
orthogonal grain with respect to the corresponding series of boards (1a or 4a) on the two external covering panels (5);
- realisation of the finished door (P) by gluing two panels (5) on the two opposite sides of an intermediate panel (6), as shown in fig. 5. Finally, attention is drawn on the importance of the crossed grain of the wooden strips of the bearing intermediate panel (6) with respect to the wooden boards of the two external covering panels (5) for the dimensional stability of the finished door (P).
In particular, it must be noted that the panel (6) has wooden strips (7a) with vertical grain on the boards (4a) of the inserts (4), while the boards (1a) have wooden strips (7b) with horizontal grain.
