Definitions
- Methods are known for generating uniform traffic reports. These include, for example, the ALERT C protocol, after which the messages of the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) are generated. This protocol is optimized to minimize the message size for transmission over high bandwidth limited FM broadcast channels.
- TMC Traffic Message Channel
- RTM Road Traffic Message
- the inventive method extends the existing TMC messages according to the ALERT C protocol without changing the message format so that any additional information can be assigned.
- a traffic message is divided into a base message and an optional supplementary message.
- the basic message corresponds completely to the ALERT-C specifications, while the supplementary message may initially include unspecified contents.
- previously existing but unoccupied groups are used in the associated TMC base message. These are marked in the ALERT C protocol by so-called LABEL.
- Such a message may include 12 16-bit payload data when using the label 12.
- When using the label 15 is not yet determined how many bits may include the user data. These user data are reduced by further 4 bits according to the inventive method, whereby a so-called sub-label with another 16 states is introduced. This sub-label allows the labeling of sub-services to label 12.
- the remaining 12 bits are used as true user data and allow, for example, a unique assignment of an optional additional message to a mandatory base message.
- GROUPS of the Radio Data Service (RDS) protocol.
- RDS Radio Data Service
- application numbers or application IDs are assigned in group 3A. If such a application number is assigned to the new service, it is also possible to use the user data available there.
- the advantage of the entire method according to the invention is that it is set up on a proven data-optimized protocol for traffic information transmission. This protocol is not modified but only extended so that there is still full backward compatibility. Only the extended message share can not be evaluated by old terminals.
- this method can be applied to any channel on which the ALERT C protocol can be used.
- the method according to the invention first assumes that traffic reports are generated according to the ALERT C protocol, which consist of a base message and a supplementary message.
- the basic message corresponds to the known TMC format and is broadcast, for example, via FM-RDS services or DAB-FIC parallel to the broadcast program. These messages can thus be received in addition to the audio-radio operation.
- the TMC messages are a highly optimized data format in which messages can be accommodated in less than 100 bits.
- the low spatial resolution of the traffic messages which are bound to so-called place tables, proves disadvantageous. If all traffic-related road departures are to be included in such place tables, this results in an administrative burden and
- additional information can be integrated by the method according to the invention via supplementary messages, which adds, for example via suitable georeferencing methods, a better spatial resolution to the basic message.
- the receiving terminal which can process the enhanced traffic information service, now switches to a known supplemental TMC message extension and awaits a message corresponding to that message ID.
- the additional channel in the same ensemble can also be decoded in parallel. This offers the advantage of faster decoding.
- this information can be transmitted via further channels specified in the corresponding transmission medium.
- An example of this is the 3A group of the RDS protocol, in which an application ID (AID) can be specified. If the extended TMC service is assigned its own AID, a corresponding receiver can evaluate a 3A message of the RDS protocol in the context of the extended TMC message. This message then contains the necessary additional information necessary to uniquely describe the channel on which the additional message is expected ( Figure 3). In the case of DAB, a service component is referenced in this case.
- DAB can combine the TMC basic service and the extended TMC functionality into one DAB service.
- the particular advantage here lies in the simple assignment of TMC basic messages and additional messages, since no 3A groups were evaluated to find the channel for the additional messages ( Figure 4).
- the DAB TMC basic service and the DAB TMC supplementary service are implicitly linked by the DAB signaling as being in a service.
- the shoe street in Hildesheim is to be closed on 28.11.2001 because of an event from 12: 00-16: 00 clock.
- the following TMC message is generated for this purpose, which is referred to below as the base message:
- a vehicle driver receives the TMC basic message with a terminal according to the invention and can decrypt the following message:
- the device recognizes from the label 12 and the sub-label (0001 dual) in 4 bits of the 16-bit payload that there is an extended TMC message. In the remaining user data, the device further recognizes that it must be a message with the identifier 647. On a further, known channel, the terminal now calls the required additional information. The terminal now switches to another channel, which is known for the reception of TMC additional messages. There, the device waits for a message describing an event on November 28, 2001 from 12: 00-16: 00 with the ID 647 in more detail. For DAB, parallel decoding may be required. Alternatively, the wait state of the device may also be terminated by other events, such as the expiration of a timer.
- the channel of the additional data need not be set beforehand. Instead, the RDS AID 34 has been defined in the group 3A for the extended TMC service. Following the present message, the AID 34 is now expected in the RDS group 3A, in whose user data the channel is described on which the additional information will be available. For DAB this is the Ensemble Identifier (Eld), Service Identifier (Sld) and Service Component Identifier within the Service (SCIDs) or Service Component Identifier (SCld).
- a receiver of the invention evaluates the TMC base messages from that DAB service in combination with the TMC supplemental messages from that service.
- the DAB service consists, for example, of a primary audio component, basic TMC component and additional TMC component.
Description
Methods are known for generating uniform traffic reports. These include, for example, the ALERT C protocol, after which the messages of the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) are generated. This protocol is optimized to minimize the message size for transmission over high bandwidth limited FM broadcast channels.
Furthermore, the Road Traffic Message (RTM) method exists, which allows much more detailed messages than TMC. Due to this level of detail, however, the amount of data is significantly increased, so that primarily a use over high data rate channels such as DAB, GSM or UMTS is provided.
At present, however, there is no standardized method that allows a traffic message in a compressed portion for optimized data transmission over limed channels and in an optional supplementary portion over extended channels. The obligatory message should indicate the optional message and its findability.
The inventive method extends the existing TMC messages according to the ALERT C protocol without changing the message format so that any additional information can be assigned.
A traffic message is divided into a base message and an optional supplementary message. The basic message corresponds completely to the ALERT-C specifications, while the supplementary message may initially include unspecified contents. In order to mark the existence of an extended message, previously existing but unoccupied groups are used in the associated TMC base message. These are marked in the ALERT C protocol by so-called LABEL. Such a message may include 12 16-bit payload data when using the
In an advantageous further development, further information can be accommodated in the so-called GROUPS of the Radio Data Service (RDS) protocol. For example, application numbers or application IDs are assigned in group 3A. If such a application number is assigned to the new service, it is also possible to use the user data available there.
The advantage of the entire method according to the invention is that it is set up on a proven data-optimized protocol for traffic information transmission. This protocol is not modified but only extended so that there is still full backward compatibility. Only the extended message share can not be evaluated by old terminals.
Furthermore, this method can be applied to any channel on which the ALERT C protocol can be used.
Wenn alle verkehrsrelevanten Straßenabfahrten in derartige Ortstabellen aufgenommen werden sollen, ergibt sich daraus ein Verwaltungsaufwand undThe method according to the invention first assumes that traffic reports are generated according to the ALERT C protocol, which consist of a base message and a supplementary message. The basic message corresponds to the known TMC format and is broadcast, for example, via FM-RDS services or DAB-FIC parallel to the broadcast program. These messages can thus be received in addition to the audio-radio operation. This is particularly possible because the TMC messages are a highly optimized data format in which messages can be accommodated in less than 100 bits. However, according to the current state of the ALERT C protocol, the low spatial resolution of the traffic messages, which are bound to so-called place tables, proves disadvantageous. If all traffic-related road departures are to be included in such place tables, this results in an administrative burden and
Table sizes that are difficult to handle for commercial end devices.
As an advantageous further development, additional information can be integrated by the method according to the invention via supplementary messages, which adds, for example via suitable georeferencing methods, a better spatial resolution to the basic message.
- TMC-Basismeldung in RDS-
Gruppe 8.
- TMC Basic Message in RDS
Group 8. - Identification of an additional message under an at least partially unused label (
eg 12 or 15) in theRDS group 8. - The payload of the message under
group 8 is reduced by 4 bits for a sublabel. The sub-label is then set to (0001dual), for example, indicating the enhanced TMC service. - The remaining user data (12 bits) is assigned a unique message ID of the message to be searched for on the channel on which the extended TMC messages are broadcast.
The receiving terminal, which can process the enhanced traffic information service, now switches to a known supplemental TMC message extension and awaits a message corresponding to that message ID. With DAB, the additional channel in the same ensemble can also be decoded in parallel. This offers the advantage of faster decoding.
- the imprint of clear time and date in TMC and additional message or also
- the repetition of the basic TMC message in the supplemental message (Figure 2).
So far, it is assumed that the receiver knows the channel on which the additional message is transmitted after receiving a basic message. In an advantageous further development, this information can be transmitted via further channels specified in the corresponding transmission medium. An example of this is the 3A group of the RDS protocol, in which an application ID (AID) can be specified. If the extended TMC service is assigned its own AID, a corresponding receiver can evaluate a 3A message of the RDS protocol in the context of the extended TMC message. This message then contains the necessary additional information necessary to uniquely describe the channel on which the additional message is expected (Figure 3). In the case of DAB, a service component is referenced in this case.
As an additional option, DAB can combine the TMC basic service and the extended TMC functionality into one DAB service. The particular advantage here lies in the simple assignment of TMC basic messages and additional messages, since no 3A groups were evaluated to find the channel for the additional messages (Figure 4). The DAB TMC basic service and the DAB TMC supplementary service are implicitly linked by the DAB signaling as being in a service.
The shoe street in Hildesheim is to be closed on 28.11.2001 because of an event from 12: 00-16: 00 clock. The following TMC message is generated for this purpose, which is referred to below as the base message:
Ein Fahrzeugführer empfängt die TMC-Basismeldung mit einem erfindungsgemäßen Endgerät und kann folgende Meldung entschlüsseln:Due to the reduced spatial resolution, only the location ... can be assigned by the ALERT C protocol. By a suitable georeferencing method, the message is exactly referenced, and the additional data is added to the basic message in a supplemental message.
A vehicle driver receives the TMC basic message with a terminal according to the invention and can decrypt the following message:
The device recognizes from the
Service Component Identifier (SCld).
If the device has the advantageous addition, the channel of the additional data need not be set beforehand.
In DAB, if the TMC base service and the enhanced TMC service are transmitted in the same service, a receiver of the invention evaluates the TMC base messages from that DAB service in combination with the TMC supplemental messages from that service. The DAB service consists, for example, of a primary audio component, basic TMC component and additional TMC component.
