System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures, in particular small publications, with a conveyor system for conveying the blocks or paper stacks to be bound through the system and provided with clamping rails for securing the blocks or brochures, a processing unit for creating a straight block spine, a glueing station for applying glue to the block or paper stack spine and a discharge system for discharging the finished, glued block or paper stack, and the conveyor system (1a, 1b, 1c) has a separate retaining mechanism for securing the block or paper stack being processed in the glueing station as the clamping rails are returned to the pick-up position for a new block or paper stack, characterised in that a feed unit for applying end pages (V) to the front and rear faces of the block or paper stack is disposed adjoining the processing unit (4) in the conveying direction of the block or paper stack for creating the straight block spine, and the feed unit orients the end pages (V) flush with the spine edge of the block or paper stack.
  2. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the retaining mechanism has at least two retaining clamps (5) retaining the block or paper stack flat faces in their upper region remote from the processed block spine.
  3. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the glueing station has a glueing unit (13) which can be moved transversely to the conveying direction with at least one glue roller (14), which glue roller (14) is driven by the transverse movement of the glueing unit (13) so that it rolls on the block spine, and the glue thickness overall can be determined by the setting of a scraper (11) extending across the entire length of the roller.
  4. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 3, characterised in that the glue roller (13) has two scrapers displaceable on its length which scrape off the roller surface at the points for the head and tail of the block.
  5. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the glueing station cooperates with a feed station for folding strips with a cutting unit (20) and a suction table (17), at which the folding strips are cut to length and then fed to the suction table (17), which is moved into position underneath the block spine after the glueing operation and applies the folding strip to the glued block spine by means of a stroke movement.
  6. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the discharge system has an arm system (22) with clamping stations (22a, 22b) disposed in a star-shaped layout which pick up the block from the longitudinal conveyor and set it down clamped after applying the cover or folding strip.
  7. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the clamping rails (1a) of the conveyor system (1a, 1b, 1c) have at least two regions of differing design disposed one after the other in the conveying direction, which regions permit a projection adapted to the different conditions of the processing stations.
  8. System for producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the processing unit for creating a straight block spine is provided in the form of a milling station (34), and the milling operation is effected by means of roller-shaped tools.
  9. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures, in particular for small publications, with a system as claimed in claim 1, whereby the blocks and brochures are fed through the system by means of a conveyor system provided with clamping rails for securing the blocks or brochures, and a straight block spine is created in a processing unit first of all, after which a glue is applied to the block or paper stack spine at a glueing station, and once the glueing operation is complete the finished glued blocks or paper stacks are discharged by a discharge mechanism, and conveying by the system takes place in at least two steps by means of a forward and backward movement in the conveying direction of the clamping rails (1a) laterally clamping the blocks to the left and right, and the blocks are picked up by a separate retaining mechanism (5) during the conveying return stroke of the clamping rails (1a) and thus pass through a stationary phase of the conveyor during which the operation of applying glue to the book spine takes place, and processing operations on the block take place when the conveyor is both moving and stationary, characterised in that end pages are applied to the front and rear face of the block after the straight block spine has been created and the rear edge of the end pages is oriented completely flush with the rear edge of the block.
  10. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 9, characterised in that the glue is applied to the spine of the block transversely to the conveying direction by means of a glueing unit (13) with at least one glue roller (14) which can be displaced transversely to the conveying direction, and the glue roller (14) is driven by the transverse movement of the glueing unit (13) so that it rolls on the block spine, and the glue thickness overall is fixed by the setting of a scraper (11) extending across the entire length of the roller.
  11. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 9 or 10, characterised in that, during the glueing operation, folding strips are cut to length and then fed to a suction table (17) which is moved into position underneath the block spine with the glueing movement and applies the folding strip to the glued block spine by means of a stroke movement.
  12. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 9 to 11, characterised in that the blocks are discharged by means of the discharge system by means of an arm (22) with clamps (22a, 22b) disposed in a star-shaped layout which pick up the block from the longitudinal conveyor and set them down clamped after the cover or folding strip has been applied.
  13. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 9 to 12, characterised in that a cover is fed to the blocks from the direction opposite that in which the blocks are conveyed.
  14. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 10, characterised in that glue can be applied twice by a twofold transverse stroke movement of the glue roller (14), and the glue thickness may be varied from one stroke to the next by adjusting the scraper (11).
  15. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in claim 10, characterised in that two applications of glue may be made, for example one thinner and one thicker, by two rollers disposed one after the other in the direction of the transverse glueing stroke with different scraper settings.
  16. Method of producing glued bindings of blocks and brochures as claimed in one of claims 9 to 15, characterised in that if the system is operated without feeding in folding strips, glue can be applied in a differing thickness twice during the glueing stroke and glueing return stroke and the thickness of the film of glue is determined by a forward scraper and a return scraper and the lowering movement of the glueing unit during the return stroke is adapted to the thickness of the glue applied.
