Definitions

  • the present invention relates exclusively to the field of mail processing and more particularly relates to a device for moistening flaps or flaps of envelopes integrated in a supply module for mail items of a mail processing machine and adapted to all types of envelopes, and in particular closed envelopes with shutters already glued (therefore not to be moistened), envelopes with open shutters (at 90 °) called “nests", and envelopes with folded flaps said "to "European”, as well as flexible documents (A4 sheets for example) or rigid (including advertising inserts) intended to be marked with a postal stamp directly in the machine.
  • US Pat. No. 4,450,037 discloses a device for wetting and closing envelopes comprising, downstream of a pair of drive rollers, a separator for separating the shutter from the body of the envelope, a moistening agent for moistening the flap thus spaced apart and disposed between this pair of rollers and the separator, a manually movable baffle for, depending on its selection position, allow the passage of closed envelopes not to be wetted or the passage of envelopes flaps folded no glued.
  • the present invention therefore proposes a universal wetting device, ie capable of wetting envelopes nestled as envelopes with folded flaps, but also of allowing the passage, without wetting, of closed envelopes as of any other document in front of then be printed.
  • An object of the invention is also to allow a perfect moistening regardless of the thickness of the envelopes treated.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide such a device simply and inexpensively.
  • Yet another object of the invention is to integrate this device in a conventional structure of feeder with a high rate of treatment.
  • an envelope flap moistening device integrated into a mailpiece supply module and comprising successively, along a transport path of these mail items, at least one pair of rolls.
  • a separator for separating the shutter of the envelopes from the body of these envelopes and a moistener for moistening the shutter once the shutter separated from the body of the envelope, characterized in that it further comprises suction means arranged just in front of the separator and a pressing finger acting against spring means for, in the presence of flaps folded flaps, press the envelope towards these suction means and detach the flap of the body of the envelope thus allowing it to pass under the separator without jamming or undesirable contacts with the separator.
  • the suction means comprise a fan powered by power supply means and connected to a suction duct whose end end opens on the passage of the flaps of envelopes at a transport table of the articles of the invention. mail.
  • this end end of the suction duct has a surface inclined at a determined inclination (substantially 30 °) relative to the horizontal surface of the transport table.
  • fixed deflection means arranged under the transport table are provided to help the flap flaps nestled envelopes.
  • FIGS 1 and 2 show schematically in perspective and in cross section a mail item supply module to be disposed at the input of a franking machine.
  • a mail item supply module to be disposed at the input of a franking machine.
  • the mail items 10 that can be processed by this module are preferably envelopes with open flaps, folded or closed. But it can also be simple documents (for example in A4 format) on which will be printed directly a postage stamp.
  • this supply module comprises a wetting device formed successively (that is to say upstream downstream with respect to the direction of advancement of the articles mail) by a separator 12 to separate the flap of the envelope 10A from the body of the envelope 10B and a moistener, placed just behind this separator, to moisten the flap once the flap 10A separated from the body of the envelope 10B .
  • This moistener is preferably formed by a brush or brush 14A whose end rests on the surface of a water tank 14B arranged under a table 16 for transporting mail items through the feed module, the wetting a shutter then being made during its passage between the brush and the reservoir.
  • Drive means 18A, 18B are also conventionally arranged both at the inlet of the separator for transporting mail items beyond the separator to the moistener and at the outlet of the separator to convey them to the entrance of the separator.
  • franking machine or the next module of the mail processing machine in principle a print module of a postal imprint (not shown), when the power module is integrated with this machine.
  • the input rollers of the printing module act as means for closing envelopes previously moistened, unless the power module has its own closure means.
  • the wetting device further comprises suction means 20, arranged under the transport table 16 and whose suction opening 16A opens on the passage of the shutters. envelopes, just in front of the separator and downstream of the transport rollers 18A, to allow particularly easy detachment of these flaps relative to the bodies of the envelopes, especially in the case of envelopes of high thicknesses.
  • These suction means are formed of a fan 22, supplied with current from means 24 for supplying power to the power supply module, and connected to a suction pipe (or pipe) 26 whose terminal end (which has an inclined surface 28 pierced by the suction port 16A) opens through the transport table 16.
  • the fan advantageously operates continuously and provides a constant suction at the flap of the envelopes.
  • this aspiration is also present both when passing closed envelopes or documents or during the passage of nested envelopes (whose flap is open at 90 °). It then acts on the body of the envelope and no longer on the shutter alone. However, because of the low suction power, this action is not detrimental to the operation of the feeder and, in particular, it does not have the effect of changing the trajectory of these types of envelopes whose body must pass over the separator.
  • the wetting device further comprises a pressing finger 30 articulated on the frame of the feeder against resilient means, of the leaf spring type or equivalent 32, and for compressing the flap of the envelopes towards the opening 16A of the suction duct during their passage over this duct.
  • this finger provides a dual function, a function of aid for the open flap opening for envelopes with flaps folded and help function to the flaps closed closure for closed envelopes.
  • the feeder is advantageously provided with a groove 34 made in the transport table 16, all along a referencing wall 36 of this feeder.
  • This jogging wall 36 of the mailpieces further comprises, under the transport table, a fixed deflector 38 shaped delta wing to guide and gradually fold the flap of these envelopes from their initial position to 90 ° to a position terminal near 30 ° allowing their passage under the separator and their wetting in the best conditions (see Figure 2).
  • the suction means make it possible to remedy the problem posed by the presence of an unbonded area 10C which is always present on these closed envelopes (see FIG. 5A on which the presser finger has been shown deliberately discarded of the envelope for the clarity of the explanation) and which is source in the art previous unwanted contacts (causing jams) with the separator.
  • FIG. 5B the action of the suction means 20 conjugate with that of the pressure finger 30 has the effect of locally deforming the envelope and closing this unbonded area thus avoiding any undesirable contact with the separator.
  • the closed envelope with glued shutter will therefore pass unhindered above the separator and therefore the moistener.
