Apparatus according to Claim 1 or one of the further Claims, characterized in that the bore holes (35) in the region of the sliding segments (16, 17) and the segment troughs (18), on one hand, and the bore holes (36) in the region of the intermediate segment (22) and the intermediate troughs (23), on the other hand, are subjected to different controls in the circumferential sectors of the main drum (10) with respect to the application of air, in particular suction air.

Apparatus according to Claim 1 or one of the further Claims, characterized in that the filter pieces (25) or the filters (26) are positioned in the region of the intermediate troughs (23) of the intermediate segment (22) and the sub-rods (12, 13) are positioned in the region of the segment troughs (18) of the sliding segments (16, 17).
    7. Apparatus according to Claim 6 or one of the further Claims, characterized in that for the purpose of checking the satisfactory connection between the sub-rod (12, 13) on one hand, and the filter (26) on the other hand, a retaining force is exerted on the filters (26) held in the region of the intermediate troughs (23), in particular by means of reduced suction air in the region of the bore holes (36) and that the sliding elements (16, 17) can be moved outwards while maintaining an (increased) suction air pressure in the region of the sub-rods (12, 13) such that a controllable, limited traction force is exerted on the connection between Filter and sub-rod (12, 13).
    8. Apparatus according to Claim 7 or one of the further Claims, characterized in that, if necessary, filters (26) separated from the sub-rods (12, 13) can be further transported by the intermediate segment (22) and separately carried away from the filter cigarettes (15), in particular by impinging the bore holes (36) with compressed air.
