Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an antenna of the type with radiating surface (s) plane (s).
  • the invention notably proposes an antenna of this type capable of being used in transmission / reception over at least two frequency bands.
  • planar antennas called PIFA ("Planar Inverted-F Antenna" or flat antenna type F inverted) which include, as illustrated by the figure 1 , a ground plane 1 and a flat conductive surface 2 which is superimposed on this ground plane 1, and extends to the right and parallel thereto.
  • PIFA Planar Inverted-F Antenna
  • Such an arrangement has a resonance wavelength which is a function of the dimensions of the plane conductive surface 2 and the height which separates it from its ground plane 1.
  • An object of the invention is to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks and to provide an antenna of the aforementioned type with an optimized gain for different channels in the same resonance band of the antenna.
  • Another object of the invention is also to provide an antenna with at least two transmission / reception bands which is of small size.
  • WO90 / 13152 an antenna structure that has two radiating elements, one that is used for transmission, the other that is used for reception. It is not intended to use a resonant circuit simultaneously over several frequency bands, switching to different sub-bands receiving by switching capacitive or inductive means.
  • the invention proposes a transmitting / receiving antenna according to claim 1.
  • the means defining an adaptation circuit are advantageously connected in parallel with capacitive or inductive means themselves connected in series with means capable of being selectively switched between an on state and a locked state, these capacitive or inductive means shifting the resonance bands of the antenna, depending on whether the means capable of being switched are in the on state or in the off state.
  • the two radiation surfaces are advantageously in the same plane.
  • the antenna is connected to the ground plane and an electronic RF signal supply and reception by two points on either side of a radiating section.
  • the adaptation circuit means are then split on one side and the other of the radiating sections.
  • the invention also relates to a mobile phone which comprises such an antenna.
  • a mobile phone structure comprising a housing in the bottom of which is disposed a ground plane and a loudspeaker electronics, structure in which said ground plane is extended by a shielding piece which has a recess upwards. speaker and which is the ground plane of an antenna of the aforementioned type whose or radiating sections are arranged in the housing on the side of the shielding piece opposite the speaker.
  • the antenna represented on the figure 3 comprises a ground plane 10 and two planar radiating elements 11 and 12 which extend superimposed on said ground plane 10, being parallel thereto and arranged in the same plane.
  • These two elements 11 and 12 are both rectangular sections. They are in this case aligned with each other and have the same width l. Their respective lengths, referenced L1 and L2, may be equal or different.
  • the radiating section 11 is connected on one side to the earth plane (connection point 13) and on the other side to an RF signal supply / reception electronics (connection point 14).
  • the two sections 11 and 12 are connected to each other by at least one circuit which allows the antenna to resonate on two frequency bands centered on the frequencies F1 and F2.
  • a plug circuit behaves substantially as a purely inductive element before its resonant frequency and as a purely capacitive element after its resonant frequency.
  • An assembly of the type shown on the figure 1 therefore operates with two resonance bands, which by varying the dimensions of the radiating sections and the height h, as well as on the values of the components L and C, can be centered on the two resonance frequencies F1 and F2.
  • the antenna that is illustrated on the figure 4 (with differences of scale of representations) takes over all the different elements of the assembly of the figure 3 .
  • a branch which comprises a capacitor C1 connected in series with a controlled switch element D, which in this case is a PIN diode.
  • a similar arrangement is connected in parallel with the plug circuit 18.
  • the two diodes D of these arrangements are controlled by a voltage signal CT transmitted through shock inductors Lc.
  • a protective capacitor C2 is furthermore provided between point 14 and the power supply / reception electronics associated with the antenna.
  • the assembly is equivalent to that of the figure 3 .
  • the plug circuits 17, 18 are modified by the presence of the capacitors C1 connected in parallel thereto, so that the frequencies of the two resonance bands then created are offset with respect to those obtained when the diodes D are blocked.
  • the values of the various components of the assembly which has just been described and in particular the inductive and capacitive values are chosen so that the resonant frequencies F1 and F2 correspond in one case to the "duplex" transmission frequencies.
  • TX curve in solid lines on the figure 5
  • reception frequencies "duplex" f RX dotted line curve on the figure 5 ).
  • the antenna is perfectly resonant for one and the other of the two bands and this both on transmission and on reception.
  • Such an antenna is advantageously integrated with a mobile phone structure, as illustrated on the figure 6 .
  • This mobile phone structure comprises in a housing B a card 19 which is arranged in the vicinity of the front face of the telephone housing and which carries the various keys 20 of the keyboard, control means of the screen 21 of the telephone, as well as means 22 forming a loudspeaker.
  • a metallization 23 which defines the neutral (or mass) of the mobile phone and to which the card 19 and any other cards of the telephone (card 24 on the figure 6 ) are connected.
  • This ground plane 23 is extended by a metal shield 25 which extends with a recess to the right of the means 22 forming a loudspeaker.
  • This metal shield 25 is used to make the ground plane of the antenna, the sections 11 and 12 thereof being arranged on the bottom of the housing B, to the right of the shield 25.
  • the volume occupied by the antenna assembly is minimal, the height h between the shield 25 and the radiating sections 11 and 12 being 8 mm or smaller.
  • a significant advantage of this configuration is that the shield effectively protects the user against electromagnetic radiation emitted by the antenna.
