Claims (30)

  1. Adapter (20) for a hand-operated dispensing device (120) for a fluid which is/can be placed under pressure in a container in the substantially upright position thereof and in the substantially inverted or upside-down position thereof, the dispensing device (120) comprising:
    a) a housing (148) which is fixed so as to be sealed on an opening at the upper end of the container;
    b) a base (26), at the lower end of which there is disposed a connecting nipple (130);
    c) a through channel (30) which extends through the base and the connecting nipple (130) and is connected to a riser pipe (32) extending into the fluid in the container for the passage of the fluid in the substantially perpendicular position of the container,
    characterised by
    d) a tubular adapter housing (34) which contains a connecting channel (36) between the riser pipe (32) and the through channel (30) of the housing (148) of the dispensing device (120), the adapter housing (34) comprising in each case a connecting pipe (42) for the connecting nipple (130) and a riser pipe connection (44) for the riser pipe (32);
    e) a plurality of inlets (46) for the fluid in the substantially inverted position of the container relative to the dispensing device (120), the adapter housing (34) forming at least part of the inlets (46);
    f) a sleeve-like inlet valve (48) within the adapter housing (34) for the approximately simultaneous closure of the inlets (46) in the approximately upright position of the container, but for the approximately simultaneous clearance of the inlets (46) in the event of a pressure acting on the fluid in the container in the substantially inverted position of the container;
    g) a check valve (50), which is disposed within a valve chamber (52) of the adapter housing (34) so as to be freely movable axially between two end positions, wherein in the upright position of the container the upper end position is defined by a check valve seat (54) extending transversely through the adapter housing (34) and the lower position is defined by a supporting device (56) on which the check valve (50) adopts a throttle position for the fluid, leaving throttle openings (58) free;
    h) a valve chamber (52) having a diameter of greater dimension than the diameter of the check valve (50) in order to form a circulation channel (60) for the fluid in the upright position of the container.
  2. Adapter as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the inlet valve (48) is inserted as a special component into the adapter housing (34) so as to be immovable axially.
  3. Adapter as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that the inlet valve (48) consists of a valve sleeve (62) with a sleeve base (64) and is supported within the adapter housing (34) at a distance below the inlets (46), which consist of a plurality of inlet openings (66) provided at the same height and at the same circumferential angular intervals in the cylindrical wall of the adapter housing (34) and which in the upright position of the container are sealed by the valve sleeve (62) but, in the event of a reduced pressure in the adapter housing (34) relative to that prevailing in the container, are opened by a radially inwardly directed bulging of the sleeve wall.
  4. Adapter as claimed in Claim 3, characterised in that at least three supporting ribs (70) disposed at equal circumferential angular intervals extend radially inwards from the inner wall of the adapter housing (34) and upwards from the base of the adapter housing (34) and end at a distance below the inlet openings (66), the sleeve-like inlet valve (48) being supported by its base on the upper end faces of the supporting ribs (70).
  5. Adapter as claimed in Claim 4, characterised in that the supporting ribs (70) are simultaneously guide ribs for the coaxial movement of the check valve (50) in the adapter housing (34) and intermediate spaces which are disposed in the circumferential direction of the interior wall of the adapter housing (34) between the supporting ribs (70) form bypass channels (60) through which in the upright position of the container the fluid can flow past the check valve (50) in the direction of the dispensing device (120).
  6. Adapter as claimed in Claim 5, characterised in that a lower end of the adapter housing (34) has a tapered longitudinal section (74), the lower end of which forms the riser pipe nipple (44) of smaller diameter, wherein the supporting ribs (70β) are guided into the tapered longitudinal section (74), project radially inwards and adopt a distance from one another, diametrally relative to the valve chamber (52), which corresponds to the internal diameter of the riser pipe nipple (44) and is of smaller dimension than the diameter of the check valve (50), in order to form bearing ribs (57) for the check valve (50).
  7. Adapter as claimed in Claim 4, characterised in that the sleeve-like inlet valve (48a) is provided in the region of its base with an annular sealing flange (74a) which bears so as to form a seal on the smooth cylindrical inner wall (68a) of the adapter housing (34a) at a distance below the lower end of the inlets (46a) and of the lower end of the connecting nipple (130) of the housing (148) of the dispensing device (120) and is supported on the upper ends of the supporting ribs (70a).
  8. Adapter as claimed in Claim 7, characterised in that the valve sleeve (62a) of slight wall thickness is made from resilient material and rests so as to form a seal with its upper end over a short length normally on the inner wall of the lower end of the connecting nipple (130a) of the dispensing housing (148a) in such a way that in the event of a reduced pressure within the adapter housing (34a) the wall of the sealing sleeve (62a) is bulged inwards by the fluid flowing in under the action of the pressure difference and permits the entry of the fluid into the adapter housing (34a).
  9. Adapter as claimed in claim 8, characterised in that the inlets are inlet slots (46a) which extend between the connecting nipple (130a) of the housing (148a) of the dispensing device (120a) and the upper tubular end (42a) of the adapter housing (34a) beyond the lower end of the connecting nipple (130a) and into the interior of the adapter housing (34a).
  10. Adapter as claimed in Claim 9, characterised in that the lower end of the inlet slots (46a) extends beyond the lower edge of the connecting nipple (130a) of the dispensing housing (148a) and ends above the sealing flange (64a) of the inlet valve (48a) in order to form outlet openings (49a) of the inlet slots (46a).
  11. Adapter as claimed in Claim 9, characterised in that the inlet slots (46c) are disposed in the cylindrical inner wall of the upper end of the adapter housing (34c) which is pushed firmly onto the connecting nipple (130c), wherein stops (38c) project radially on the inner wall of the adapter housing (34c) and delimit the lower end of the inlet slots (46c) at a distance below the lower end of the connecting nipple (130c) in order to form through channels (37c) of the inlet slots (46c) which lie opposite and spaced from the outside of the valve sleeve (62c) of the inlet valve (48c), the said valve sleeve projecting from the base (74c) of the inlet valve (48c).
  12. Adapter as claimed in Claim 11, characterised in that the valve sleeve (62c) of the inlet valve (48c) extends over substantially the entire length into the connecting nipple (130c) of the dispensing housing (148c) and rests so as to form a seal only with the outside of its upper free end (35c) on the inner wall (36c) of the connecting nipple (130c) in the substantially upright position of the container.
  13. Adapter as claimed in Claim 12, characterised in that the annular flange (74c) of the inlet valve (48c) is supported on an inner annular shoulder (33c) of the adapter housing (34c), wherein a longitudinal section of the adapter housing (34c) which forms a smooth cylindrical inner wall of the valve chamber (52c) for the check valve (50c) extends below this annular shoulder (33c).
  14. Adapter as claimed in Claim 13, characterised in that longitudinal ribs (49c) by which the inlet slits (46c) in the circumferential direction of the interior wall of the upper tubular end of the adapter housing (34c) are separated from one another are provided at the same axial height with the stops (38c) for the lower end of the connecting nipple (130c) of the housing (148c) of the dispensing device (120c) at a distance above the inner annular shoulder (33c) of the adapter housing (34c) for the sleeve-like inlet valve (48c).
  15. Adapter as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the valve chamber (52) of the adapter housing (34) is delimited at the lower end by an annular base from which at least three bearing ribs (57) for the check valve (50) project, the said bearing ribs being disposed at the same angular intervals over the circumference of the valve chamber (52) and surrounding an insertion opening in the riser pipe nipple (44) of the adapter housing (34) for the riser pipe (32).
  16. Adapter as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that on both sides of a plane in which the bore of the riser pipe (32c) extends the upper end of the riser pipe (32c) is cut off at an angle of 45° so that two tips (76c) of the riser pipe end which lie opposite one another project over the plane of the annular base of the valve chamber (52c) to support the check valve (50c).
  17. Adapter as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that the lower end of the valve sleeve (62f) of the inlet valve (48f) is constructed as a flexible sealing flange (66f) which extends substantially radially outwards from the lower end of the inlet valve (48f), and the outer wall of the upper end of the valve sleeve (62f) rests against the inner wall of the connecting nipple (130f) and forms therewith passage channels (30f) for the fluid.
  18. Adapter as claimed in Claim 17, characterised in that a chamber (90f) of widened diameter is provided between the upper end (42f), fixed on the connecting nipple (130f), of the adapter housing (34f) and the valve chamber (52f) thereof for the lower flexible sealing flange (66f) of the inlet valve (48f), wherein the annular base (92f) thereof which projects radially over the circumference of the valve chamber (52f) is provided with inlet openings (97f) for the fluid in the inverted position of the container, the sealing flange (66f) of the inlet valve (48f) resting so as to form a seal on the inlet openings (97f) in the upright position of the container.
  19. Adapter as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the inlet valve (48g) forms a unit with the adapter housing (34g).
  20. Adapter as claimed in Claim 19, characterised in that the inner annular shoulder (21g) of the adapter housing (34g), which delimits the lower end of the inlet slots (46g) which form the inlets, extends radially inward and merges into the sealing sleeve (62g) of the inlet valve (48g), the base of the latter being disposed in the region of a downwardly tapering longitudinal section of the adapter housing (34g) and having on its underside the valve seat (73g) for the check valve (50g) in the valve chamber (S2g) of the adapter housing (34g).
  21. Adapter as claimed in Claim 20, characterised in that lower ends of longitudinal ribs (71 g) in the valve chamber (52g) of the adapter housing (34g) are shaped as bearing beads (73g) which project radially inwards and form a seat for the check valve (50g) at a distance above the tips (33h) of the upper end of the riser pipe (32h), the diameter of which corresponds approximately to the internal diameter of the valve chamber (52g).
  22. Adapter as claimed in Claim 19, characterised in that a tubular guide lug (346i) of the housing (148i) of the dispensing device (120i) is inserted into the upper end of the adapter housing (34i), the lower end thereof forming the valve seat (54i) for the check valve (50i).
  23. Adapter as claimed in Claim 22, characterised in that the cylindrical guide lug (346i) extends downwards from the underside of the base (360i) of the housing of the dispensing device (120i), the said base (360i) being disposed a small distance above the upper end of the valve sleeve (62i) and provided with through channels (25i) which connect the interior of the adapter housing (34i) to the interior space of the housing (148i) of the dispensing device (120i).
  24. Adapter as claimed in Claim 19, characterised in that the upper end of the adapter housing (34k) is constructed as the sleeve-shaped inlet valve (48k) and the cylindrical inner wall of the connecting nipple (130k) forms the valve seat for the upper outer end of the inlet valve (48k) a small distance below the base of the housing of the dispensing device (120k).
  25. Adapter as claimed in Claim 24, characterised in that the inner wall of the connecting nipple (130k) of the housing (148k) of the dispensing device (120k) has guide strips which rest on the outer wall of the adapter housing (34k) and form inlet slots (46k), the inlet opening of each of which is formed by the lower end of the connecting nipple (130k) and an annular flange (35k) which extends radially outwards from the outer wall of the adapter housing (34k).
  26. Adapter as claimed in Claim 25, characterised in that the upper end of the riser pipe (32k) is chamfered in the manner of a gabled roof, the two tips (33k) being disposed at the height of the annular flange (35k) and supporting the check valve (48k) in the upright position of the container.
  27. Adapter as claimed in Claim 26, characterised in that the valve chamber (52k) of the adapter housing (34k) is provided with guide strips (70k) for the check valve (50k) which extend with parallel axes, the lower ends thereof extending to the height of the annular flange (35k) and the upper ends thereof extending approximately to the base (64k) of the sleeve, approximately in the longitudinal centre of the longitudinal section of the adapter housing (34k) which begins at the annular flange (35k) and ends at the upper end of the adapter housing (34k) forming the valve sleeve (62k) and is inserted into the connecting nipple (130k), forming inlet slots (46k).
  28. Adapter as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that a baffle plate (82e) is disposed at a distance above the opening (80e) in the base of the adapter housing (34e) in order to guide the flow of fluid in the upright position of the container into the bypass channels (60e) for the check valve (50e) in the valve chamber (52e).
  29. Adapter as claimed in Claim 28, characterised in that the baffle plate (82e) is connected by way of at least one bearing rib (79e) to the inner wall of the valve chamber (52e) of the adapter housing (34e) and forms the bearing device for the check valve (50e) in the upright position of the adapter (20e).
  30. Adapter as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the check valve (50) is a ball valve in the valve chamber (52).
