Definitions
- the subject of the present invention is a watch movement comprising a equation of time mechanism with display. More particularly, the invention aims a walking equation mechanism operating a minute hand of the true time concentric to the direction of movement.
- some timepieces include a mechanism known as the equation of walking time, that is to say, whose switch has two concentric minute hands, one indicating the civil time, and the other the true time, the minute hand of the true time being actuated by a time equation cam whose profile is determined by the difference between the mean solar time and the true time at a given moment.
- the equation cam is rotated at the rate of one revolution per year at from a simple or perpetual calendar mechanism.
- the simple calendar is a mechanism likely to indicate the day of the week, the day of the month, the month of the year or even the phases of the moon but that does not take into account the change in the number of days in the month (month 28, 29 or 30 days).
- the user of a watch having a simple date mechanism will have to perform a manual intervention every month ends which count less 31 days. For example, February 28 or April 30 will require a manual intervention.
- the perpetual calendar it allows, as a simple date mechanism, to indicate the day, the date, the month and the phases of the moon. But, unlike the simple calendar mechanism, the perpetual calendar mechanism automatically takes into account the length of the months (28, 29 and 30 days), without manual intervention.
- a mechanism of Perpetual calendar therefore automatically takes into account leap years.
- the Patek equation with walking time equation is supported by a support driven by the minute wheel of the watch movement. It consists mainly a friction wheel frictionally engaged on the support and a pinion equation mounted on the support and having a barrel whose end free carries the minute hand of true time.
- Two blocking latches are rotated on the support. They surround the friction wheel and are arranged in such a way so that when one of them is removed from the friction wheel, the other is also and, conversely, that when a return spring, fixed on the support, applies one of the flip-flops against the periphery of the friction wheel, the other flip-flop also applied against the periphery of this friction wheel.
- One of the scales blocking device comprises a control finger which cooperates with a rocker equation of which one end is applied against the periphery of the equation cam of time.
- the functioning of the equation mechanism of walking time that comes to be described above is the following.
- the equation rocker walking is placed on the trajectory of the control finger which is provided with one of the locking latches.
- the support, driven by the minute wheel, turning, the control finger is moved by the moving equation rocker, which causes the moving of latching latches against the action of the return spring and the release of the wheel from friction.
- two rakes that mesh with the equation gear walking cause the minute hand to retract from the true time until a stud which is provided with one of the two rakes comes into contact with the rocker of a walking equation.
- the two flip-flops locks again block the friction wheel on the support.
- the position exact for the minute hand of true time it is determined by the position of the positioning pin when it reaches the end of the equation rocker walking. The minute hand of true time then goes back to its exact position for a given day.
- the Patek mechanism advantageously makes it possible to create a part watch with equation of walking time, that is to say having two needles concentric minutes, one indicating the civil time and the other indicating the time true.
- This timepiece can be reset by the user himself following an indefinite stay, since the determination of the difference between two minute hands is defined by an equation cam driven by the perpetual calendar.
- the Patek construction however includes a number large number of moving parts, which poses the problem of its reliability of operation. On the other hand, because of the large number of pieces that make it up, Patek construction is cumbersome, which makes it more pocket watches only to wristwatches. Finally, it should be noted that the use of a friction wheel as the main organ of the Patek mechanism problem of the rapid wear of such a type of mechanism due to looseness progressive elastic forces involved.
- the present invention aims to solve the aforementioned problems as well as others by proposing a device of equation of walking time which is of a simple construction and whose operation responds to all required reliability.
- the present invention relates to a timepiece comprising a clockwork movement, a device of equation of walking time, as well as a date mechanism, this timepiece having a pair of needles hours and minutes that indicate the civil time, and a minute hand which indicates the true time, the daily position of the needle of the minutes of the true time with respect to the minute hand of the civil time being determined by the position of a time equation cam driven in rotation to one revolution per year from the date mechanism, characterized in that what the minute hand of the true time is driven by a differential gearing which has for taking respective strength a gear train driving the minute hand of the civil time and a transmission member that cooperates with the equation cam of the time to transmit to the differential input the pivoting movement of said cam.
- the present invention provides a device for equation of walking time including a very small number of pieces, so It is compact and can be housed in any type of timepiece such as that, in particular, a wristwatch.
- the limited number of pieces Employees ensures reliable and trouble-free operation of the equation device of the time according to the invention.
- the position of the needle of minutes of true time is corrected once a day only, usually between 11 pm and midnight, when the date mechanism changes from day to day next.
- the wearer of the watch does not see the minute hand of the true time jumping at each time change as such is the case with the mechanisms to equation of the running time of the prior art which are driven by the timer of the watch.
- the feeling of trust that the user feels towards his shows is therefore increased.
- the position of the minute hand indicating the true time is determined precisely to the extent that the transmission member, which is one of the power take-offs of the differential gear, is in direct contact with the equation of time cam, which eliminates any play between said cam and said differential gear.
- the present invention proceeds from the general inventive idea of wear the minute display hand of true time by a differential gear whose two power take-offs are constituted, on the one hand by the timer of the watchmaking movement, and secondly by the time equation cam that is driven at a rate of one revolution per year by the date mechanism.
- the needle minutes of true time is thus in direct contact with the timer, so that the gap that separates it from the minute hand of the civil time remains perfectly constant over a 24-hour period separating two date changes successive. It is also in direct contact with the weather equation cam that determines precisely, during each daily correction, its position relative to the display needle of the civil time.
- the present invention will be described in connection with a timepiece of the type wristwatch including a walking equation mechanism actuated by an equation of time cam, itself driven in rotation due to of a revolution per year from a date mechanism that can be indifferently simple or perpetual.
- a simple calendar the needle of minutes of true time can be reset on time by the user himself at the end of month of the year with less than 31 days since the determination of the difference between the two hands of the minutes of the true time and the civil time is defined by the cam equation of time driven by the date mechanism.
- the weather equation cam is automatically placed in its exact position for the given day.
- the timepiece according to the invention comprises in particular a dial of which a plan view is shown in Figure 1.
- the dial provides the wearer with different watch information. It indicates first, in a first small dial 2, the day of the week (optional display).
- the indication of the day of the week is done by a needle 4.
- the needle 4 could be replaced by a disc that would bear the inscription of the days of the week and which would turn under the dial by revealing the name of the day of the week by an opening practiced in said dial and called wicket.
- a second hand 6 moving above another small dial 8 indicates the date (from 1 to 31) or date.
- watch provides an indication of the month through a 10 needle that moves over of a dial 12 on which are marked the names of the different months of year.
- the watch according to the present invention can also indicate the phases of the moon by means of a needle 14 se moving over a dial 16 on which are represented the different moon areas that allow to see if the moon is growing, is full, decreases or is new (optional display).
- the watch according to the invention also provides an indication on the equation of time for the day that is the difference between true solar time and mean solar time or civil time (optional display). As it has already been explained above, this difference between true time and civil time is due to the inequality of the daily race of the Earth on its elliptical trajectory around the Sun.
- the difference between the civil time and the true time is indicated on the dial 1 of the watch by means of a needle 18 which moves with regard to of a time scale 20.
- This time scale 20 is graduated from minute to minute minute and ranges from -15 to +15 minutes, which corresponds the maximum advance and delay that civil time can take over time true during a year.
- the object of the present invention is not to combine a date and a simple display of the differences between the civil time and the true time of the kind described above, but to integrate into a watch an equation mechanism of the walking time, that is to say, whose switch has two minute hands concentric, one indicating the civil time and the other indicating the true time.
- the timepiece according to the invention includes, in addition to a conventional referral whose role is to indicate the calendar time and comprises an hour hand 22, a minute hand 24 and a hand of seconds 26 moving above the dial 1, a second minute hand 28, concentric with the hand of the minutes of the civil time 24, and which indicates the true time.
- the wearer of the watch can end, for example, with a representation of the astrological symbol of
- the exact position of the minute hand of the true time 28 for a given day is determined every day (once in 24 hours) around midnight, then both hands of the minutes of the civil time 24 and the true time 28 move in concert, the difference between these two needles 24 and 28 remaining constant for the given day.
- cam of time 32 carries a disc 36 which rotates at the same speed as said cam, namely to reason of a revolution a year.
- the disc 36 has decals with the first three letters of the name of the month, while a cursor 38 indicates a given month.
- the cursor 38 is formed on the outer periphery of a second disk 40 disposed above the record of the months of the year 36 and concentric with it.
- the disk 40 which carries the slider 38 is fixedly mounted on the frame of the watch anyway appropriate, by example by means of two radial arms 42 as shown on the figure 1.
- the cursor 38 associated with the equation mechanism of the walking time and the needle 10 of the date device indicate the same month, in this case the month of January. It is indeed necessary understand that when the user returns his watch on time after a stop of indefinite duration or when it must intervene manually to correct the date all ends of the month that are less than 31 days in the event that a mechanism single date is used, it must be able to match the position of the cam equation of time 32 with the date indicated by the date mechanism so that the minute hand of the true time 28 indicates the exact solar time.
- the watch according to the invention visible in FIG. 1 thus comprises a multiplicity of correctors (no represented in the drawing) among which is a general corrector which allows simultaneously correct the day, date and month, and auxiliary correctors independent of each other and which allow to correct respectively the day, either the date or the month.
- the mechanisms of date and of equation marchante are decoupled. It is therefore necessary to provide a corrector additional that allows to match the solar time indicated by the needle minutes of the true time 28 with the data provided by the mechanism of calendar.
- FIG. 2 shows in particular the equation cam of the time already mentioned above, whose profile is determined by the difference, for each day of the year, between the mean solar time or civil time and the true solar time.
- the time equation cam 32 is rotated at a rate of one revolution per year from the simple or perpetual calendar mechanism that the piece contains watchmaking.
- the cam 32 carries a record of months 36 which turns at the same speed as it and which allows to make coincide the position of said cam 32 with the date indicated by the date mechanism so that the needle minutes of the true time 28 indicates the exact solar time.
- the date mechanism simple or perpetual, can be of any type known and will not be described here in its entirety. It is enough, indeed, for the good understanding of the invention, to know that this date mechanism results in the time equation cam 32 at the rate of one complete revolution per year.
- a date mobile 44 causing the aforementioned needle 6 which indicates the date (from 1 to 31).
- This mobile of date 44 rotates at a rate of one complete turn per month. It is powered by the date mechanism via an intermediate date wheel 46 to reverse the direction of rotation, and a reduction mobile 48 which allows to reduce the rotational speed of one complete revolution per month to one complete revolution per year.
- the minute hand of true time 28 is driven by a differential gear 50 which has for respective entries a gear 52 driving the minute hand of the civil time 24 and a rake 54 which cooperates with time equation cam 32 (rake 54 is shown in FIG. two extreme positions, once in solid lines and the other time in dotted lines).
- the differential gearing 50 comprises at least one, and preferably two satellites 56 driven by the timer of the watch movement of the watch. These two satellites 56 are capable to turn on themselves and to roll on the internal toothing 58 of an equation wheel 60. The latter also shows on its outer circumference a toothed sector 62 by which it cooperates with a toothed sector 64 that presents the rake 54 at one of its ends.
- the real time display train includes a pinion 68 placed in the center of the differential gear 50 and carried by an axis 70.
- This pinion true time display 68 meshes with the planet gears 56. It carries other part of a display wheel 72 which meshes with a roadway 74 on the barrel of which is driven the minute hand of the true time 28.
- This gear 72, 74 allows to return the display of solar time to the center 76 of the watchmaking movement of the watch, so that the minute hand of the true time 28 is concentric in the minute hand of the civil time minutes 24.
- the equation cam of the time 32, the time equation rake 54 and so the time equation wheel 60 are motionless.
- the planet gears 56 are driven by the movement timepiece of the watch. So they turn on themselves and roll on the teeth interior 58 of the equation wheel of time 60, driving the display pinion 68 of real time in rotation, which allows the minute hand of the true time 28 of turn concomitantly with the minute hand of the civil time 24 minutes. the needle of the true time 28 and the needle of the civil time 24 remains constant on a 24 hours period.
- the weather equation cam walking 32 pivots, driven by the date mechanism that passes the calendar from one day to the next.
- the probe 66 which is in contact with the periphery of the cam 32 rotates in turn the rake 54.
- Said Rake 54 by pivoting, causes the equation wheel of time 60 in rotation.
- the satellite gears 56 being, during this brief period of time, substantially immobile (they make a complete turn in 1 hour), turn on themselves being trained in rotation by the equation wheel time 60, and in turn drive the pinion display of the true time 68 so as to again exactly adjust the position of the minute hand of the true time 28.
