Definitions
- the present invention relates to a coaxial connector with locking by snap.
- European Patent Application EP 1 094 565 discloses a coaxial connector having a connector element and a complementary connector element.
- the connector element comprises a sleeve provided with locking lugs the free end has a shoulder adapted to bear on an inclined surface of the complementary connector element so as to exert on it a force axial.
- This connector is satisfactory with regard to the level of leakage in microwave but appear in this connector spurious frequencies relatively large numbers generated by the phenomenon of intermodulation, which is not not acceptable, particularly in the field of telecommunications, where transmissions of microwave signals to or from an antenna antenna.
- a coaxial locking connector by snap-fitting comprising two complementary connector elements comprising each a tubular body forming a mass contact and into which a contact penetrates central, male and female respectively, retained in the body via a insulation, characterized in that a first of the connector elements comprises a retaining member adapted to exert a radial force on the second connector element, which is arranged so that this radial force generates an axial force on the second connector element tending to press it axially against a bearing surface of the first connector element, and in that one of the connector elements has an internal mass contact member inserted into the corresponding body and able to come into contact with an inner wall of the body of the other element of connector, exerting a relatively strong contact pressure.
- the contact made between the mass contact member internal wall and the aforementioned inner wall makes it possible to ensure the electrical continuity between the two bodies forming mass contact while allowing a contact pressure relatively strong in the contact areas.
- This internal mass contact member allows the transport of most of the currents which, at high frequencies, circulate in a skin thickness opposite the central contact. It reduces so sensitive parasitic frequencies generated by the phenomenon of intermodulation.
- the electrical contact between the two connector elements obtained by means of the abovementioned axial support makes it possible to transport the residual currents generated by the leaks through the internal mass contact member.
- these residual currents are relatively low and the intermodulation phenomenon essentially a nonlinear character and only appears for strong currents, this contact generates only low parasitic frequencies due to the phenomenon intermodulation.
- This contact also makes it possible to substantially reduce the level of leakage in microwave.
- the connector according to the invention has characteristics of shielding quite satisfactory and low intermodulation rate.
- the invention allows easy assembly of the connector elements, this assembly that can be obtained essentially by snapping.
- the second connector element has one end front end bearing axially against the bearing surface of the first connector element.
- the contact member of internal mass is forcibly inserted into the first connector element.
- the internal mass contact member advantageously comprises a plurality of elastically deformable tabs adapted to bear on the inner wall supra.
- the second connector element comprises a bearing surface generally frustoconical on which can support the retaining member so that the radial force exerted by it generates an axial force on the second element of connector.
- This generally frustoconical surface can be made in a throat annular body of the second connector element.
- the retaining member is constituted by a split ring, generally frustoconical, so as to present a radial elasticity.
- the axial end of this ring having the smallest cross section may comprise a rim directed radially outwardly.
- the retaining member has elastically deformable tabs defining at their free end a annular bead adapted to bear against said generally frustoconical surface.
- the retaining member also forms a mass contact outside.
- the front end of the second connector element can come into contact directly with a wall made on the body of the first connector element.
- the first connector element comprises a compressible seal axially, in particular made of elastomer loaded with a conductive metal, the front end of the second connector element coming to rest on this seal.
- the latter can be housed in an annular groove of the forming member internal mass contact.
- the connector comprises a contact washer interposed between the front end of the second connector element and a wall of the first element of connector, this washer being able to be compressed axially.
- This washer may have a corrugated profile or, alternatively, a shape usually frustoconical.
- the washer can be made of an elastic metal material, for example example.
- FIG. 1 shows a connector 1 according to the invention, having a first connector element generally designated 2 and which, in the example described, is arranged in plug and a second connector element generally designated by the reference 3 and which is arranged in a socket.
- the first connector element 2 illustrated in isolation in FIG. 2, comprises a conductive body 5, tubular of revolution of axis X, and forming mass contact, a central contact 6 and an insulator 7 in which the central contact 6 is held.
- Insulator 7 is inserted into an internal mass contact member 8 having a central annular ring 9 to which are connected on one side, a plurality of elastically deformable tabs 10 and, on the other side, an extension 12 to the rear having at its free end an annular bead 13, as can be seen especially in Figure 4.
- the free end of the tabs 10 generally defines an annular bead 17.
- the member 8 is inserted into force in the cavity of the tubular body 5, the bead annular 13 bearing against the inner wall of this body 5.
- the latter has an inner annular groove 18 in which is disposed a seal 29 and, at its front end, a flange 20 directed radially towards the axis X.
- the first connector element 2 further comprises a retaining member 25, shown in isolation in FIG. 5, constituted in the example described by an axle rod X, split so as to have a radial elasticity.
- This ring 25 has a shape generally frustoconical and has at its end a smaller cross-section a flange 26 directed radially outwardly.
- the rod 25 is housed in the body 5, with a certain clearance between an inner shoulder 21 of the body 5 and the rim 20, allowing a radial deformation of the rod 25, during assembly of the two connector elements.
- the body 5 receives at its front end a plug 30 comprising a return 31 whose free end comes into contact with the rod 25.
- the second element of connector 3 comprises a conductive body 35, tubular of revolution of X axis, and forming a mass contact, a central contact 36 and an insulator 38 interposed between the body tubular 35 and the central contact 36.
- the body 35 has a pointed end end 39.
- the body 35 has on its outer wall a frustoconical bearing surface 40 converge towards the rear, which surface 40 defines with another surface frustoconical 41, of opposite orientation, an annular groove 42.
- the rod 25 is partially lodge in the groove 42, the flange 26 then bearing against the surface frustoconical support 40 so that the radial force exerted by the rod 25 results in a axial force along the X axis exerted on the connector element 3.
- the end front 39 of the connector element 3 is pressed axially in contact with a wall inside 19 constituted by a shoulder of the body 5.
- the lugs 10 of the internal mass contact member 8 exert, thanks to to the annular bead 17, a radial force on the inner wall of the body 35, producing thus a significant contact pressure.
- the organ 8 can carry most of the currents which, in high frequencies, circulate in a skin thickness facing the central contact 6.
- the electrical contact between the front end 39 of the body 35 and the inner wall 19 of the body 5 makes it possible to transport the residual currents generated by leaks through the slits 10a existing between the legs 10. As these currents residuals are low and the phenomenon of intermodulation presents essentially a nonlinear character and appears only for strong currents, this contact between the front end 39 and the inner wall 19 generates only low frequencies parasites due to the phenomenon of intermodulation.
- This contact makes it possible to reduce the level of leakage microwave that its shielding effect adds up, as a first approximation, with that obtained thanks to the line of contact of the member 8 with the bodies 5 and 35.
- FIG. 6 shows a connector 1 'substantially similar to the connector 1, but whose first connector element 2 'comprises a member forming internal mass contact 8 'provided with a housing 50.
- the latter has a shape annular and allows to receive a seal 51.
- the front end 39 of the body 35 bears on the seal 51, which is compressed axially by the axial force exerted by the rod 25 on the body 35.
- the seal 51 is conductive, being made in the example described in elastomer charged with a conductive metal. Because this seal is not located on the line of main flow of currents, it may even contain conductive particles magnetic, without compromising performance in intermodulation since the currents that cross this joint remain relatively weak.
- the connector 1 has a contact washer 53 disposed in the first element of connector 2, bearing against the inner wall 19 of the body 5.
- This washer 53 has a generally circular shape, as can be see it in Figure 8 in particular, and is made of an elastic metal material.
- the washer 53 When viewed in profile, as seen in Figure 9, the washer 53 is corrugated, alternatively having depressions 54 and vertices 55 along the X axis, so that the washer 53 has a certain axial compressibility.
- the front end 39 of the body 35 bears against the vertices 55 and the recesses 54 are in contact with the inner wall 19, the washer 53 then being slightly compressed axially.
- the contact washer may have a shape that is generally frustoconical X axis, one of the axial ends of the washer being in contact with the front end 39 of the body 35 and the other with the inner wall 19.
- the contacts thus made are continuous over the entire circumference.
- FIG. 10 shows a connector 60 comprising, at like the connectors 1 and 1 ', a first connector element 61 and a second element connector 62.
- the first connector element 61 comprises a contact member of internal mass 63, substantially similar to the member 8, and a retaining member 65. This last comprises a ring 66 to the front of which is connected a plurality of legs elastically deformable 67 and behind which is made a housing 68 to receive a seal 69.
- the tabs 67 generally define at their free end a bead ring 70 whose role is explained below.
- the ring 66 is inserted into force in the body cavity 75 of the first connector element 61.
- the internal mass contact member 63 is forcibly inserted into the ring 66.
- the body 76 of the second connector element 62 has a recess ring 77 defined at the front by a frustoconical bearing surface 78 on which can come to bear the annular bead 70.
- the radial force exerted by the tabs 67 creates an axial force allowing press the front end 80 of the body 76 against a shoulder 81 of the ring 66.
- the body 76 has near its front end 80 a throat ring 85 receiving a seal 86.
