Definitions
- the field of the invention is that of acoustic probes comprising a set of emitting and / or receiving elements obtained by cutting from a transducer block. Such probes are currently used especially in applications such as ultrasound. More specifically, the invention relates to unidirectional acoustic probes consisting of linear elements that can be excited independently of each other by means of an interconnection network connected to a control circuit (see for example US 5,774,960A ).
- One method of producing these probes is to initially perform an assembly: printed circuit comprising an interconnection network / layer of piezoelectric material / acoustic adaptation blades and then to cut piezoelectric elements unit.
- International demand WO 97/17145 filed by the applicant describes such a method and more particularly a manufacturing method in the case of probe using a printed circuit on which conducting tracks are made to address the different acoustic elements.
- the Figure 1 illustrates in fact more precisely a piezoelectric material 13 assembled to acoustic adaptation blades Li 1 and Li 2 , said material being cut in two perpendicular directions by the type of saw lines Ti and Tj.
- a flexible printed circuit 12 comprises conductive tracks PI and via, at least a part of the same via being positioned on a conductive track and on a metallization M i of piezoelectric material associated.
- the linear acoustic channels are defined parallel to the lines Tj, each acoustic channel being subdivided into the defined sub-channel parallel to the lines Ti.
- the printed circuit comprising its unit acoustic elements can be glued to the surface of a massive absorber material having a surface curve.
- the flexible printed circuit is then folded over the edges of the ceramic and the absorber as shown in FIG. Figure 2 .
- the acoustic channels defined parallel to the axis X, are also parallel to the tracks PI, the entire printed circuit and conductive tracks is firstly deposited on the surface of the absorber ABS and secondly folded vertically on the ratings A and A 'of said absorber for reasons of compactness. According to this configuration the tracks are then folded at 90 ° with a sharp angle which tends to weaken them or break them.
- the present invention proposes an acoustic probe comprising a new interconnection network formed on the surface of a flexible dielectric film allowing during the conformation operation to optimize the size of the probe and the strength of the electrical connections.
- the second secondary connection pads are part of a conductive region situated around the periphery of the lower surface of the dielectric film constituting the mass.
- the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing acoustic probes.
- the cutting operation of the linear acoustic elements is carried out as far as the dielectric film.
- the probe according to the invention comprises a flexible dielectric film, hereinafter also referred to as a flexible printed circuit (because of the electrical connections that are made therein), on which different connection pads are made allowing the addressing of the transducers. piezoelectric.
- the connection areas facing the transducers are called: primary connection pads, the remote connection pads with respect to the transducers are called: secondary connection pads.
- each piezoelectric transducer comprises an electrode of mass E mi and a control electrode E c, also called “hot spot" in the field of ultrasonic sensors.
- the Figure 3a illustrates a probe according to the invention seen from above.
- the Figure 3b illustrates the same probe seen in section along the axis CC '.
- the piezoelectric transducer elements TP i consist of a piezoelectric material that can be of ceramic type and separated by cutouts T j . Their surface is partially metallized so as to define a control electrode Ec i and a ground electrode Em i for each of said transducers. These electrodes are connected by via conductors V i to the lower surface of the printed circuit board CIS, as will be developed below. Conventionally, the upper surface of the ceramic is covered with acoustic matching elements Li 1 and Li 2 , the electrical properties of which are chosen to ensure good acoustic adaptation.
- the transducers are glued to the surface of a CIS flexible printed circuit board having predefined electrical connections. The linear transducers are thus defined parallel to the direction Dy represented in FIG. Figure 3a .
- the Figures 4a and 4b respectively illustrate a top view of the printed circuit and a bottom view of said circuit, the surface seen from above being in contact with the piezoelectric material.
- Figure 4a shows in the central part of the flexible circuit board CIS first primary connection pads pppc i to electrically connect the control electrodes Ec i transducers, second primary connection pads sppc i in contact with the ground electrodes Em i TP transducers i as well as first secondary connection pads ppsc i the second primary connection pads sppc i correspond to a mass range PM s made at the periphery of the flexible printed circuit.
- This mass range is cut during the cutting operation of the piezoelectric material into linear transducers since this cut is made at the level of the adapter blades / piezoelectric material, the cutout extending into the circuit printed flexible and leading by the same to separate in seconds primary connection pads sppc i , the mass range developed at the periphery of the upper surface of the flexible printed circuit.
- the bottom surface of the flexible printed circuit illustrated in Figure 4b comprises third primary connection pads tppc i opposite the first primary connection pads pppc i , and connected thereto via via conductors. It also comprises second secondary connection pads spsc i connected to the ranges tppc i via conductive tracks PI in a direction Dx and connected via via conductors to the first secondary connection pads ppsc i , from which it becomes it is possible to address the control electrodes of the piezoelectric transducers TP i .
- the dielectric film has a width I ex at the periphery greater than its central width I c .
- connection pads in contact with the ground electrodes and the connection pads in contact with the control electrodes are distributed over the flexible dielectric film so as to also advantageously distribute the via conductors in a direction Dg making an angle of approximately 45 ° with the direction D x , so that the via conductors do not have a covering area between them.
- the assembly of the ceramic type piezoelectric material on the flexible printed circuit can be achieved by bonding with an anisotropic conductive adhesive film (ACF).
- ACF is a polymer film loaded with metallized or metallic polymer beads.
- the electrical conductivity is achieved by crushing the balls in the conduction axis during pressure bonding of the ceramic on the printed circuit.
- It can also be a polymer resin loaded with metallized or metallic polymer beads.
- the electrical conductivity is also obtained by crushing the balls in the conduction axis during bonding under pressure.
- the electrical contact can also be ensured by the use of an isotropic conductive resin or an isotropic conductive film comprising a polymer material loaded for example at 80% with metal particles of the type Silver, Nickel, ...
- the electrical conductivity which is in this case isotropic is ensured by the physical contacts between the metal particles.
- the linear piezoelectric transducers can be cut out of the piezoelectric material covered with its adaptation blades, with a diamond saw, according to the direction Dy illustrated in FIG. Figure 3a .
- the width of a linear transducer can vary between 50 and 500 microns.
- the cutting lines stop in the thickness of the dielectric film
- the acoustic adaptation blades can be laser cut while the piezoelectric ceramic is cut by the mechanical saw. This last cutting method makes it possible to release the thermal stresses due to the bonding of materials having very different coefficients of thermal expansion. By first cutting the acoustic adaptation blades, the ceramic is released from thermal stresses and consequently, it avoids breaking the ceramic during the second cutting.
- the conformation is the operation that makes it possible to produce curved probes.
- a sufficient degree of curvature of said dielectric film is obtained to come to assemble it on the surface of a curved surface absorber.
- the Figure 6 shows in this respect the assembly of the flexible film CIS on the surface of the ABS absorber and illustrates that in this configuration, the electrical connection leads PI are no longer bent with a sharp angle of 90 ° but are subject only to to a lighter curvature, so as not to weaken them as it was in the prior art.
