Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for secu ⁇ ng, in upper and lower edges, a window or wall element in an opening m a building, the opening being upwardly defined by a top bar and downwardly defined by a bottom bar, the window or wall element having an upper and lower edge profile in which a panel-shaped element, such as a glass pane, is secured
- the present invention has for its object to design the device intimated by way of introduction such that the above-considered sealing problems are wholly eliminated, that an aesthetically appealing solution is realised and, in addition, adjustment possibilities are afforded m respect of the placing of the window or wall element in the opening in the building. Furthermore, the present invention has for its object to design the device such that all rattling, draughts and the like are entirely avoided.
- the device intimated by way of introduction is characterised by an upper mounting profile secured in the building with a downwardly open accommodation space in which at least an upper edge portion of the upper edge profile may be inserted from beneath, and a lower mounting profile with an upwardly directed flange which is approximately parallel with a plane of extent of the window or wall element and against which the lower edge profile is securable.
- reference numeral 1 relates to a top bar which upwardly defines an opening in a building, and in which event the top bar may be a wooden batten, a glulam beam or an integral part of the building structure itself.
- reference numeral 2 relates to a bottom bar which downwardly defines the opening where the window or wall element is to be mounted.
- the window or wall element proper has. at least along its upper and lower edges, edge profiles 4 in which a panel-shaped element 3 such as a glass pane or an insulating glass unit is tensioned in place.
- the panel-shaped element 3 is illustrated in the Figure by a broken line and it should be observed that the vertical distance between the upper and the lower edge profile is considerably greater than that which is apparent from the Figure.
- the two edge profiles 4 have an outside 5 and an inside 6 and a transverse wall 7 extending between them.
- the outsides 5 and the insides 6 are substantially parallel with each other and with the panel-shaped element 3.
- the upper edge profile 4 has an upwardly directed flange 8 which may be seen as an extension of the outside 5 in a direction upwards past the transverse wall 7.
- the lower edge profile 4 has a downwardly directed flange 8 which may be seen as a downward extension of the outside 5 past the transverse wall 7.
- An upper mounting profile 9 is secured, by means of suitable fixing devices such as screws, in the underside 10 of the top bar 1.
- a lower mounting profile 11 is secured on the underside 12 of the bottom bar 2.
- the lower mounting profile 11 is, as is apparent from the Figure, secured by means of screws 13.
- the upper mounting profile 9 has an accommodation space 14 which extends in its longitudinal direction, is downwardly open and in which an upper edge portion of the upper edge profile 4 of the window or wall element may be inserted from beneath.
- the accommodation space 14 is inwardly defined by an inner wall 15 which is substantially parallel with the plane of extent of the panel-shaped element 3.
- accommodation space 14 is defined in an outward direction by an outer wall 16 which is approximately parallel with the plane of extent of the panel-shaped element 3.
- the depth in the vertical direction of the accommodation space 14 is adapted in such a manner, in relation to the height of the window or wall element, that a certain adjustment possibility occurs in the vertical direction before it need be feared that the upper edge profile 4 falls out of the accommodation space 14.
- An adjustment range in the order of magnitude of 5-10 mm is suitable if the construction is completed with a single glass pane, while, because of the generally larger dimensions, a larger adjustment range of the order of magnitude of 5-15 mm may come into consideration if the construction is completed with an insulating glass unit.
- either of the inner or outer wall 15, 16 respectively has a friction-increasing device, preferably a sealing strip, which is accommodated in a longitudinal pocket in the wall.
- a sealing strip which is preferably a brush strip
- the downward withdrawal of the window or wall element out of the accommodation space 14 is prevented or at least impeded, at the same time as the strip laterally presses the upper edge profile into abutment against the inside of the inner wall 15, whereby rattling is eliminated.
- the lower mounting profile 11 has an outside 18 and an inside 19 which are approximately parallel with one another and with the plane of extent of the panel- shaped element 3.
- the outside 18 and the inside 19 are connected to one another by the intermediary of a transverse wall 20 through which the screw 13 extends and against whose upper side the head of the screw rests.
- the transverse wall 20 slopes in a direction from inward and out somewhat downwards so that any condensation that may possibly be formed on the upper side of the transverse wall 20 or on the lower edge profile 4 runs away along the outside 18.
- the drainage is also important for the simple reason that it is impossible wholly to avoid the leakage of water in between the glass and sealing strip and between sealing strip and the edge profile 4.
- the inwardly leaking water finds it way interiorly in the lower edge profile and departs via its open ends or via drainage apertures particularly provided for this purpose in the transverse wall 7.
- Such departing water can, because of the upwardly directed flange 22 on the lower mounting profile 11 , never finds its way interiorly in the building, but is led off outwards, ultimately along the projecting flange 28.
- a substantially horizontal support surface 21 which extends in the longitudinal direction of the lower mounting profile.
- This support surface is intended to support from beneath the window or wall element so that this may thereby stand on the support surface.
- the support surface 21 is vertically placed so high up that the lower edge profile 4 can, in a direction from outside and inwards, be pivoted in over the lower mounting profile 1 1 despite the presence of the head of the screw 13.
- the lower mounting profile 11 has an upwardly directed flange 22 which may be seen as an upward extension past the transversely directed wall 20 of the inside 19.
- the upwardly directed flange serves as an abutment for the inside of the lower edge profile 4 when the window or wall element is lifted, with its upper edge, up into the accommodation space 14 and, with its lower edge, is moved in a horizontal direction in over the lower mounting profile 11.
- the inside of the lower edge profile 4 and the upwardly directed flange 22 are interconnected via screws 23 so that the lower edge profile 4 is thereby held fixed to the lower mounting profile 1 1 in a horizontal direction at right angles to the plane of extent of the panel-shaped element.
- the lower edge profile 4 it is not necessary that the lower edge profile 4 rest on the support surface 21, but, for the purposes of adjustment, it is possible to have a space therebetween. Possibly, the lower edge profile 4 may, however, stand on the support surface 21 via suitably dimensioned spacers, since, in the absence of such spacers, the screws 23 would be exposed to considerable shearing stresses.
- the upper mounting profile 9 is, apart from the holes which are required for fixedly screwing the mounting profile in the top bar 1, entirely closed upwardly, for which reason leakage of water running along the outside of the top bar 1 is precluded.
- the upper mounting profile has, on its upper side, a longitudinal pocket 24 for accommodating a sealing strip which sealingly abuts against the underside 10 of the top bar. This sealing strip is placed on the outside of those screws by means of which the mounting profile is secured in the top bar.
- the upper mounting profile 9 further has, on its outside, a partition 25 which is substantially directed obliquely downwards or downwards and which is located a distance outside the outer wall 16 and thereby also a distance outside the outside 5 of the upper edge profile 4.
- the partition 25 has its lower end edge 26 located so far down that, in the vertical direction, it covers a part of the upper edge profile. Further, the lower end edge 26 constitutes a drip spout for rainwater.
- the distance between the inside of the partition 25 and the outside 5 of the upper edge profile 4 is so great that a joint profile 27 may be slid in therebetween as is intimated in the Figure with an upper end portion.
- This joint profile is part of an arrangement for realising vertical joints between two window or wall elements standing side-by-side. In that the upper end of the joint profile is, in this manner, located behind the partition, rainwater cannot penetrate in behind the joint profile.
- the lower mounting profile 11 has, at a lower edge region on the outside 18, an outwardly and obliquely downwardly directed flange 28 whose free edge is located a distance outside the outside of the bottom bar 2.
- a longitudinal pocket 29 for accommodating a sealing strip which seals against the upper side 12 of the bottom bar 2.
- This sealing strip is thus also located on the outside of the screws 13 by means of which the lower mounting profile 11 is secured on the bottom bar.
- the lower mounting profile 1 is narrower than the lower edge profile 4, for which reason the distance between the outside 18 and the inside 19 is less than the distance between the downwardly directed flange 8 on the lower edge profile 4 and its inside 6. This implies that a space exists between the inside of the downwardly directed flange 8 and the outside 18 of the mounting profile. The purpose of this space is to allow run-off of condensation and otherwise to ventilate the construction.
