Die drehbaren Einsätze der Verlängerungselemente können zudem profiliert werden. Entsprechend werden die Schlüsselschäfte der zugeordneten Schlüssel profiliert. Verglichen mit der bekannten Profilierung von Rotoren bedeutet dies eine wesentliche Rationalisierung. Für den Aufbau einer Schliessanlage können beim erfindungsgemässen Drehschliesszylinder somit zusätzlich noch das Profil des Schlüssels und die Länge des nichtwirksamen Teils des Schlüssels variiert werden. Die Anzahl der Schliessungen und damit die Schliessicherheit können damit mit vergleichsweise geringen Mehrkosten erhöht werden. Nach einer Weiterbildung der Erfindung ist der wirksame Teil des Drehschliesszylinders durch einen Kurzzylinder gebildet. Dieser Kurzzylinder ist vorzugsweise als Einbausicherung ausgebildet. Die Länge dieses Kurzzylinders ist so bemessen, dass er als Einbausicherung ohne seitlich vorzustehen in einen Schlosskasten eingebaut werden kann. Weist nun ein weiterer Drehschliesszylinder ein Verlängerungselement 3 auf, bei dem die Länge A gleich der Länge B' ' ' ist, so kann dieser Drehschliesszylinder lediglich mit dem Schlüssel 17''' bedient werden. Somit kann allein aufgrund der Variation der Länge B eine Schliessanlage aufgebaut werden. Diese Schliessanlage kann durch die obengenannte Profilierung noch erweitert werden. Die Figur 1 zeigt wie erwähnt einen Drehschliesszylinder 1, bei welchem der wirksame Teil 2 vorzugsweise ein Kurzzylinder ist. Die Länge D dieses Kurzzylinders 2 ist wesentlich kleiner als diejenige üblicher Doppeldrehschliesszylinder und entspricht im wesentlichen der Stärke eines üblichen Schlosskastens. Der Kurzzylinder 2 bzw. der wirksame Teil ist an seinen beiden Enden jeweils mit einem Verlängerungselement 3 bzw. 3' verlängert. Der Rotor 8 des wirksamen Teils 2 ist vorzugsweise durchgehend. In der Figur 1 ist der Schlüssel 17 von der linken Seite des Dreh- schliesszylinders 1 in diesen eingesetzt.
