Description

The present invention relates to an electrical connector mounting assembly comprising a longitudinal mounting plate provided with means for securing to at least one rail and fastening means arranged along the length of the plate, and at least one connector support comprising a front face, a rear face, a lower end and an upper end, said support being provided with fastening means cooperating with the attachment means of the plate to fix the support on the plate and receiving means adapted to receive a appropriate connector accessible from the front panel.

This kind of assembly assembly is very widely used in the implementation of splitters and sub-distributors housed in a cabinet. In general, there are provided two vertical support rails on which a plurality of mounting plates are mounted horizontally. The mounting plates, more commonly referred to as bands, have a practically standard length of 19 inches, hence the designation 19-inch strips.

In a very conventional embodiment, the mounting plate or strip comprises a vertical front plate cut from windows intended to receive directly or indirectly electrical or optical connectors, generally low voltage.

The present invention is more particularly concerned with the case where the assembly assembly comprises connector supports fixed to the mounting plate or strip. Thus, each connector support is attached to the front plate at the receiving windows. The connector supports may be attached directly to the edges of the window, or alternatively, the mounting plate or strip may comprise specific fixing means located on the rear face of the front plate provided with windows. The connector supports can be fixed at their respective windows either from the front face of the faceplate or from its rear face. However, usually the connector brackets are reported on the front face of the front plate and therefore protrude horizontally from this front plate.

These connector supports comprise specific receiving means adapted to receive a particular type of electrical or optical connectors. The implementation of the connectors on such connector supports is made from the rear face of the connector support so as to have the plug slot of the connector at the respective window formed by the mounting plate or strip .

For mounting and wiring electrical or optical connectors in such a mounting assembly it is preferred that the mounting plate or strip is not yet attached to the vertical support rails. The connector supports can be mounted on the mounting plate or strip and the connection cables can be connected to the different connectors. The connectors thus wired can be reported in their respective connector support, and the mounting plate or strip thus equipped is finally subject to the vertical support rails.

It often happens to modify, supplement or replace some connectors for various reasons related for example to a new application or a modernization of the equipment. In this case, it is necessary to remove the mounting plate or strip from their support rails to access the connectors reported from the back in their respective connector support. Knowing that a standard 48.26 cm (19 inch) headband has 24 connector support slots that can accommodate 24 single connector mounts, it is understandable that removing a mounting plate or headband from their rails The support is relatively laborious, since it causes the pulling of 24 connecting cables generally comprising eight wires each.

EP-A-0 762 586 and FR-A-2688354 show examples of mounting of electrical devices in a box provided with mounting rails according to the prior art.

Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art by defining a mounting assembly and mounting bracket for connectors in which the mounting of Electrical or optical connectors are simplified, and do not require the removal of the mounting plate from its vertical support rails.

The present invention achieves this object by providing that the hooking means extend repeatedly substantially along a single line, and the means for securing the support are located at one end of the support so that the support protrudes vertically from the platen, when the platen is horizontally attached to at least one vertical support rail. Whereas in the prior art the front plate provided with the reception windows constitutes a partition wall preventing access to the connectors other than through the windows, in the present invention there is no vertical front plate provided with reception windows, but on the contrary flat linear locking means from which extend the connector supports either upwards or downwards, but always vertically. Therefore, the connector supports are held only by one of their ends, and preferably by their lower ends so that they protrude upwardly from the platen. It should be noted that the mounting plate of the present invention is no longer a strip in the sense of the prior art, since it no longer forms a vertical longitudinal faceplate which precisely gave the name of strip to the mounting plates of the invention. prior art. In the absence of such a face plate, it is no longer the mounting plate which constitutes the front face of the assembly assembly, but the front faces of the connector supports fixed to the mounting plate. In this way, the mounting plate is not even visible once the connector supports are mounted.

Advantageously, the mounting plate comprises a front side and a rear side, the front face of the connector support being located on the front side of the plate and the rear face of the support being directed towards the rear side of the plate, the fixing means of the connector support cooperating with the latching means of the plate so that the connector support is removable from the plate by grasping the support on its front face from the front side of the plate and moving it away on the back side of the deck. Each connector support can thus be individually removed from the plate with its respective connector reported without being obstructed by the plate, as was previously the case in the prior art because of the front plate. With such a mounting assembly, it is possible to pre-mount the mounting plates on their vertical support rails, then to wire the connectors, to bring them back into their respective connector support, and finally to set up the connector supports. with their connectors already mounted on the mounting plate previously attached to the support rails. By disengaging the front face of the mounting plate, that is to say by removing the front plate, and replacing it with flat linear locking means located either at the bottom or at the top, there is an important space which can be removed. advantageously used by the connector supports themselves.

As mentioned above, it is preferred that the connector supports extend vertically upward from the mounting plate. In this case, the means for receiving the support are located above the fixing means. Advantageously, the support comprises mounting means for holding an accessory, said mounting means being located at the end opposite to that where the fixing means are located and are separated from the fixing means by the receiving means. In this case, the accessory mounting means are located at the free upper end of the support directed away from the fastening means of the plate. The connector supports are thus perfectly stepped from bottom to top starting with the fixing means above which are provided the receiving means over which are again provided the mounting means for the connector accessories. Whereas before the mounting plate literally surrounded the connector support, since it was housed in a receiving window, the mounting plate of the invention occupies more than the lower (or upper) of the connector support which thus extends freely upwards (downwards).

According to one characteristic of the invention, the fastening means engage with the fastening means during a translational movement. horizontal when the board is mounted on vertical rails. The connector supports can thus be attached or removed from the mounting plate from the front side of the plate and do not require any space or top or bottom clearance since the movement is horizontal and not vertical. This is indeed important because in a splitter or subdistributor, there are several mounting plates arranged one above the other without interspace. Therefore, it is more advantageous to be able to place the supports with a horizontal movement and not vertical because it would then remove the mounting plate located just above or below, which would cause even more important work. Thus, with the assembly assembly of the invention, the visible panel of the distributor or sub-distributor will be entirely constituted by the front faces of the connector supports, and not by the front plates of the strips of the prior art.

According to another characteristic, the fixing means comprise latching means co-operating with the latching means of the plate at the end of the translational movement. Advantageously, the fastening means form guide elements in translation and snap-in profiles, and the attachment means form guide appendices on which the guide elements of the support are adapted to be engaged by sliding and profiles of retaining cooperating with the snap-fastening profiles of the support.

According to another particularly advantageous characteristic, the latching means comprise disengaging means operable from the front face of the support. Advantageously, the disengaging means house a fixing nut for the adaptation of a connector accessory. Preferably, the disengaging means are located at a fastening base incorporating the fastening means.

According to another aspect of the invention, the plate comprises cable holding means located behind the hooking means, the holding means comprising cable housings for receiving the cables slidably. Advantageously, the holding means co-operate with immobilizers adapted to block the cables in their respective housing. The cables can thus be previously engaged in the holding means while the mounting plate is already attached to the vertical support rails. Once the wiring connectors completed and the connectors reported in their respective connector support, the supports can be mounted on the mounting plate by sliding the cables in the holding means. Once the support in place on the plate, simply immobilize the cables in their respective housing.

The assembly of electrical connectors according to the invention essentially comprises two component parts, namely a mounting plate 1 and one or more connector supports 2, 2 '. The electrical or optical connectors 3 and their accessories 5 are not part of the assembly assembly, but merely constitute accessories. That is why it can be said that the assembly assembly comprises only two constituent elements.

Referring first to the figure 1 , we see a mounting plate 1 according to the invention. This plate 1 has a generally flat longitudinal configuration, since it consists of a longitudinal base plate 10 intended to extend in a horizontal plane, once the plate is mounted on vertical support rails. This base plate 10 comprises two free longitudinal ends and two longitudinal edges, forming on the rear side 151 a vertical angle 15 and on the front side 111 a flap 11. The angle 15 on the rear side 151 forms a plurality of receiving housings 16, here there are twelve adapted to accommodate twenty-four connection cables. At its ends, the angle 15 forms securing elements 17 adapted to cooperate with lateral consoles for fixing the plate on vertical support rails. The presence of the angle 15 reinforces the resistance of the plate to torsion. It is the same with the flap 11 located on the front side 111. The flap 11 extends substantially parallel to the base plate 10 at a front edge area 101. There is thus created an intermediate space 110 between the flap 11 and the front edge zone 101. The flap 11 is connected to the front edge zone 101 by bridges 12 which form the forward longitudinal end of the plate 1. On the plate of the figure 1 there are twenty-four decks 12. On the other hand, the flap 11 is made with slots 13 which extend parallel to each other from the front side 111 to the rear side 151. The slots 13 are open on the front side 111 and are located between the bridges 12. The slots 13 are here twenty-three. The slots 13 thus define tongues 113 to which the bridges 12 are respectively connected. The slots 13 could even extend over the entire width of the flap 11 so that each tongue 113 would then be individual and no longer connected together as shown on FIG. figure 1 . However, the connection of all the tabs together strengthens the holding of the tabs, and thus also the holding of the platinum as a whole. The base plate 10 is further provided at its forward edge region 101 of light 105 which forms apertures through the leading edge area 101. The function of these lights 105 will be given hereinafter.

The configuration of the plate 10 at its front side 111, that is to say at its flap 11 and its front edge area 101 connected by the bridges 12, is a hooking means intended to cooperate with the connector supports for attaching these to the mounting plate. The arrangement of tabs 113 and bridges 12 form a plurality of attachment sites which extend repeatedly substantially along a single line defined by the leading edge of the plate 10 on the front side 111. In the embodiment of the figure 1 , the hooking means form twenty-four clipping sites arranged next to each other on a single line. Indeed, all the tongues 113 are located in the same horizontal plane, whereas in the prior art the front face of attachment extended in a vertical plane. Each hanging site includes a tab and two lights.

The mounting assembly also includes one, and preferably, more than one connector support designated by numeral 2 or 2 '. We will refer to Figures 2 and 3 to describe their structure. On these Figures 2 and 3 it is a particular, but nevertheless standard type of connector support; there are other types of connector supports, such as the one referenced 2 'on the figure 5 . We will, however, describe connector 2 of Figures 2 and 3 : indeed, the connector 2 'of the figure 5 differs only in its width and the type of connectors it is intended to accommodate.

The connector support 2 comprises a base 20 located at its lower end 201 from which the rest of the support extends. The support defines a front face 211, a rear face 212, a lower end 201 and an upper end 221.

The base 20 defines fastening means intended to cooperate with the attachment means formed by the mounting plate 1. More specifically, the base 20 forms a mounting housing 102 open towards the rear face and closed on the front face , in which a tongue 113 of the plate 10 can be slidably inserted into a translational horizontal displacement. In reality, it is the connector support that is reported on the plate 1 by pushing the housing of the base 20 on a tongue 113. We therefore understand easily that the connector supports are placed on the mounting plate 1 from the front side 111 of the plate by moving the support to the front side 111 of the plate in the direction of its rear side 151. The displacement is translational in a horizontal plane, that is to say in the same plane as the base plate 10 of the plate 1. It is therefore not necessary to provide a clearance space above or below the connector support for its implementation in place or removed from the plate 1. The housing of the base 20, which serves as a guide element of the support on the tab of the plate, of course extends in a horizontal plane, that is to say in the same plane as the tabs 113 to insert them in the housing. The simple engagement by force or friction of the tongue 113 in the fixing housing 102 is sufficient to fix the support 2 on the plate 1. However, according to the invention, it is further provided latching lugs 205 formed by the 20 and base intended to come into retaining engagement in the lights 105 formed in the front edge area 101 of the base plate 10. Thus, at the end of translational engagement of guided sliding of the base 20 on its respective tongue 113, the detent pins 205 resiliently resilient in the lights 105, thereby preventing the sliding withdrawal of the support plate. And to allow disengagement, that is to say the removal of the lugs 205 from the inside of the lights 105, there is provided disengaging means 206 accessible from the front face 211 of the connector support. Thus, it is possible to remove the support of the plate from its front face 211 without having to access its rear face 212.

Ces contreforts 208 s'étendent jusque en dessous de la plaque de base 10 de la platine 1.Structurally, the base 20 forms an upper plate 203 which is placed above the tongue 113 of the plate 1 which serves as guide appendix for the support, as can be seen on the figure 4 . This plate 203 forms with its lower surface the upper part of the fixing housing 202. The housing 202 is formed just below the plate 203. Below the housing 202, the base 20 forms two lateral bars 204 which are housed in the intermediate space 110 formed between the flap 11 and the front edge area 101 of the plate 1. The engagement of the side bars 204 in this space 110 with a very small clearance makes it possible to further improve the stability of the fixing the connector support 2 on the plate 1. The lateral strips 204 point backwards from the front face 211 where they connect to an actuating stirrup 209 on which the locking lugs 205 are formed. actuating yoke 209 extends inside the side bars 204 with the web of the yoke forming a disengaging actuator 206 accessible from the front face 211 of the connector support. The connection of the stirrup 209 with the lateral bars 204 is elastic so that the displacement of the stirrup upwards makes it possible to disengage the detent pins 205 from the inside of the lights 105. Likewise, the elasticity of the stirrup allows the engagement of the lugs 205 in the lights 105. Thus, during the establishment of the support on the plate, the stirrup 209 is elastically deformed upwards to allow the detent lugs 205 to move. on the front edge area 101 into the slots 105. Advantageously, the web of the stirrup forming the actuating member is advantageously provided with a receiving housing 207 for a nut for attaching an accessory connector, such as a duplicator. The base 20 also forms buttresses 208 which can serve as abutment elements against the front edge of the plate on either side of a bridge 12. These buttresses 208 extend to below the base plate 10 of the stage 1.

Above the base 20, the support 1 forms receiving means 21 for receiving an optical or electrical connector 3 of the appropriate type to the connector support. These receiving means comprise a window 213 through which the plug-in housing 31 of the connector 3 is accessible from the front face 211 of the connector support. The receiving means are also defined by the plate 203 which serves as a support surface for the connector 3. In addition, the receiving means 21 may comprise other bars or latching or locking elements 215 for holding the connector. on the plate 203 with its receiving housing 31 inserted in the window 213. It can be said that the receiving means 21 are located above the base 20 for fixing the support on the plate. The means of fixing therefore occupy the lower part of the support while the receiving means 21 are located above these fixing means.

Above the receiving means 21, the support 2 also forms mounting means 22 for mounting a connector accessory, such as a fiber optic coiling cassette, which is frequently associated with an optical connector. These mounting means define a mounting housing 22 formed by bars or mounting members 215 and an upper plate 221 forming the upper end of the connector. On the front face 211, the support can form a panel 223 which can advantageously be used to receive an indication strip for identifying the connectors and their attributions. The mounting means 22 are located in the upper stage of the connector support 2. Therefore, it can be said that the base 20 with its platen fixing means are located on the lower floor of the support, the means of receiving 21 in the intermediate position and the mounting means 22 to the upper stage. There is thus a connector support arranged vertically, and no longer horizontal as was the case in the prior art.

The figure 4 shows a connector support as just described mounted on a mounting plate as described above. It can be seen that the connector support protrudes upwards from the plate 1: in fact, only the base is fixed to the plate, with the plate 203 located just above the tongue 113 and the body disengagement 206 accessible on the front face. From this plate 203, the support 2 is completely independent of the plate 1 and thus extends freely upwards to define the reception means 21 and the mounting means 22.

On the figure 5 , we can see next to the classic connector support 2 of Figures 2 and 3 a connector support 2 'of a different type mounted on two tabs 213. Therefore, the support 2' has a pitch equal to twice that of the connector 2. The pitch of the assembly assembly is defined by the gap existing between the slots 13 which corresponds approximately to the width of the tabs 113. The connector support 2 is provided with a connector 3 engaged in the receiving means 21 so as to present the insertion housing 31 at the window 213. On its rear face 32, the connector 3 is connected to a connecting cable 4 which passes through a housing 16 formed by the angle 15 of the plate 10. In addition, it can be seen that the cable 4 is locked in the housing 16 by an immobilizing member 21 which blocks the cable 4 in position in the housing 16. This immobilizing member 161 can by example be made of a flexible material which exerts a pressure and also a friction force on the cable 4 which allows to immobilize it in the housing 16. Above the connector 3, a fiber optic coiling cassette 5 is placed in the mounting means 22. This coiling cassette is an accessory commonly used in combination with an optical connector which can for example be received in the connector support 2 '. It can be seen that the coiling cassette 5 is inserted in the mounting means 22 but also bears on the angle 15, which makes it possible to obtain very good stability for the accessory 5.

On the figure 6 , one can see the latching lugs 205 engaged in the lights 105. On the other hand, it can be seen that the disengaging members 206 and 206 'abut the bridges 12 of the plate 1.

On the Figures 7 and 8 it can be seen how the base 20 of the connector supports 2 and 2 'cooperate with the plate 1 for their attachment. We see in particular on the figure 7 that the side bars 204 are engaged between the flap 11 and the front edge area 101 of the base plate 10 with the disengaging member 206 located just in front of the bridge 12 and the plate 203 extends just above the flap 11. On the figure 8 , one can clearly see a tongue 113 engaged in the housing 202 of the support 2 and two tabs 113 engaged in the mounting housing 202 'of the support 2'.

With such a mounting assembly according to the invention, it is possible to set up the connector supports from the front side of the mounting plate which cooperates with them at their lower end. However, it is possible to imagine other embodiments in which the connector supports cooperate with the plate with their upper end. The spirit of the invention lies in the fact that the connectors are engaged with the plate at one of their upper or lower ends so that the supports extend vertically upwards or downwards from the plate 1. Thus, the turntable can not interfere with the operation of mounting or removing the connectors on the connector supports and placing or removing the connector supports on the turntable.
