Abstract

An enhanced compensating device for regulating the flow of drinks in dispensing taps, provided with a substantially conical shaped front head (11) oriented towards the flow of the drink, and with a rear cylindrical body (12), oriented towards the shutter (21) for the opening or closing of the tap (2), the compensating device (1) being positioned along a cone frustum shaped segment (22) of the conduit for the outflow of the drink and being axially adjustable, in such a way as to regulate the flow of the drink by varying its outflow port (4), comprising at least two small ducts (13, 14) mutually converging starting from corresponding inlets (131, 141), obtained along the outer surface (15) of the compensating device (1) and joining each other at an outlet (16), located in correspondence with the free end of the cylindrical body (12) and hence with greater section than that of the small ducts (13, 14), to create at least two converging current flows of drink, for a partial mixing of the two said currents, reducing the possibility of vortices and turbulence of the out-flowing drink.

Description

  • The present invention relates to an enhanced compensating device for regulating the flow of drinks (especially carbonated drinks, such as beer), in dispensing taps.
  • Known compensating devices are provided with a substantially conical shaped front head, oriented towards the flow of the drink, and with a rear cylindrical body, oriented towards the shutter for opening or closing the tap. The conical head is positioned along a cone frustum shaped segment of the conduit for the outflow of the drink and it is axially movable through the action of a command organ operating on the compensating device, in such a way as to regulate correspondingly the flow of the drink, suitably changing the size of its outflow port. The rear cylindrical body, instead, serves to maintain the axial position of the compensating device, when it is axially displaced for the regulating manoeuvre.
  • These types of known compensating devices are further provided with small longitudinal grooves ending at the free end of the cylindrical body of the compensating device, obtained in an equidistant manner along the exterior surface of the compensating device, to try to render the flow of the drink as free from turbulence as possible, both to limit foaming (in the case of carbonated drinks), and to render said flow as laminar as possible.
  • However, it has been noted that, at least under some conditions, i.e. when the velocity of the flows of the drink along the grooves are not perfectly balanced, the drink tends to swirl as it exits the tap.
  • In a different type of solution, the compensating device has lateral holes, which are in communication with a central axial hole, but even in this case the fluxes of drink are not perfectly equilibrated, and the drink exiting the tap has still the tendency to swirl.
  • The aim of the present invention is to overcome the aforesaid drawbacks, making available an enhanced compensating device, to regulate the flow of drinks in dispensing taps, which allows an optimal control over the outflow of the drink (also if carbonated, such as beer) essentially by means of a particular conformation of the compensating device.
  • These aims and others besides, which shall become more readily apparent from the description that follows, are achieved, in accordance with the present invention, by the compensating device advantageously structured as in the accompanying claims and description that follows.
  • The invention is described in greater detail hereafter with the aid of the drawings, which represent an embodiment provided by way of non limiting example.
    • Figure 1 shows a lateral view of a longitudinal vertical section of a dispensing tap, in the illustrated example usable for beer, comprising the compensating device of the present invention, in the active position, for the outflow of the drink;
    • Figure 2 shows a lateral view of a longitudinal vertical section of the aforesaid beer dispensing tap, in the resting position, both of the tap and of the compensating device;
    • Figure 3 shows a plan view of a longitudinal horizontal section of the beer dispensing tap of Figure 2;
    • Figure 4 shows a perspective view of the compensating device of the present invention.
  • With reference to Figures 1, 2, 3 and in particular 4, the enhanced compensating device 1 of the present invention is of the type provided with a rear head 11 having substantially cone frustum shape and oriented towards the flow of the drink, as well as with a front cylindrical body 12, oriented towards the shutter 21 for the opening or closing of the tap 2. The conical head 11, positioned along a cone frustum shaped segment 22 of the conduit for the outflow of the drink, can be axially displaced by the action of a control lever 24 operating on an appendix 25 which intervenes in a seat 26 obtained on the compensating device (see Figure 3), in such a way as to regulate the flow of the drink correspondingly, suitably varying its outflow port. The cylindrical body 12 instead serves to maintain the axial position of the compensating device 1, when it is axially displaced.
  • Characteristically, the compensating device 1 of the present invention comprises at least two small ducts 13, 14 converging towards each other starting from corresponding inlets 131, 141, obtained along the outer surface of the compensating device 1 and joining each other in correspondence with an outlet area 16, identifiable on the free end 17 of the cylindrical body 12 of the compensating device 1.
  • In this way the section of the outlet area 16 is greater than that of the small ducts 13, 14, to create at least two converging flow currents that collide in correspondence with said outlet area 16, to allow at least a partial mixing and control of the two said currents, in order to reduce the possibility of vortices and turbulence of the out-flowing drink.
  • The compensating device 1 further comprises, in correspondence with the outlet area 16, an indentation 18 able to allow a partial introduction of the head 211 of a shutter 21 (preferably of the type with chamfered head 211, to reduce head losses) in the open position for the outflow of the drink, in order further to reduce turbulence and vortices.
  • As stated above, the section of the outlet area 16 is greater than that of said small ducts 13, 14.
  • This can be obtained simply by causing the small ducts 13, 14 to end in corresponding outlets 132, 142 obtained directly on the free end 17 of the cylindrical body 12 of the compensating device 1.
  • Nonetheless, said outlets 132, 142 may intersect each other at least partially, as shown in figure 2, where the small ducts 13 and 14 are shown in dashed line.
  • The presence of the aforesaid shutter 21, as figure 1 clearly shows, causes, downstream of the outlet area 16, according to the direction of outflow of the drink, the presence of a substantially toroidal chamber 5, externally defined by the walls 23 of the conduit of the tap 2 and internally by the size of the shutter 21.
  • The study and countless tests conducted by the Applicant have demonstrated that this is the preferred solution to obtain the best results.
  • The accompanying figure show how the small ducts 13 and 14 end in correspondence with the extremity 17 of the compensating device 1, where the flows of drink collide, in an outlet area 16 with increasing section corresponding to that of the indentation 16, delimited frontally by the head 211 of the shutter 21, and then flow along the toroidal chamber 5 and exit from the spout 27 of the tap 2, in the expected optimal conditions.
  • The invention thus achieves the important advantage of allowing an optimal outflow of the drink (in particular carbonated drinks, such as beer, which is very delicate to handle), without any kind of turbulence and vortices.
  • The invention thus conceived can be subject to numerous modifications and variations, without thereby departing from the scope of the inventive concept. Moreover, all components can be replaced by technically equivalent elements.
  • In practice all materials employed, as well as dimensions, may be any, depending on requirements.
