Definitions
- the invention relates to an exhaust manifold for exhaust gas discharge from a Internal combustion engine with preferably six cylinders arranged in a row.
- An exhaust manifold can be used in an in-line engine with more than three cylinders elongated tubular structure to be built, which extends along the row of Exhaust gas outlet openings of the internal combustion engine, wherein on Exhaust manifold opposite each exhaust opening of the internal combustion engine Inlet flange is arranged and at a central portion of the Exhaust manifold a common outlet flange is arranged. Due to the high exhaust gas temperature, the exhaust manifold stretches in its longitudinal extent much stronger than the associated internal combustion engine or cylinder head.
- the exhaust manifold meets the mechanical loads based on the Withstands thermal expansion, the exhaust manifold must be very robust and therefore thick-walled and heavy, with a relative movement the inlet flanges of the exhaust manifold opposite the outlet openings of the Internal combustion engine must be possible to avoid cracks.
- cast manifolds are single-walled, composite Exhaust manifolds and double-walled exhaust manifolds, so-called air-gap insulated Exhaust manifold (LSI exhaust manifold) known.
- LSI exhaust manifold air-gap insulated Exhaust manifold
- Single-walled and double-walled Exhaust manifolds are usually made of pipes, shells, flanges, etc. welded together.
- a cast elbow has a thick wall, which is larger than 3 mm due to the manufacturing process which is a high mechanical strength against material overload, based on thermal expansion.
- the high is a disadvantage Weight of the manifold and also the associated high heat capacity, which, especially in the warm-up phase of the engine, leads to a strong cooling of the Exhaust gas leads.
- the manifold has a bad one Thermal insulation property, this means energy for the operation of a Exhaust gas turbocharger lost.
- the light-off temperature becomes one Emission control device and / or the operating temperature of a Exhaust gas cleaning device only reached slowly.
- Exhaust manifold is lighter than the cast manifold, its mechanical strength against material loads based on thermal expansion, however also less. It also has a welded, single-walled exhaust manifold poor thermal insulation properties and has the same in this regard Disadvantages, such as the manifold.
- a double-walled, air-gap-insulated exhaust manifold has good ones Thermal insulation properties, on the other hand, is for the sake of Weight saving and the lower heat capacity an air gap insulated Exhaust manifold constructed from relatively thin-walled components, which is easy to achieve Material overload in the form of thermally induced, plastic deformations and cracks, especially with large lengths.
- air gap-insulated exhaust manifolds with large lengths such as for Four-part and in particular for six-cylinder in-line engines, such as this is shown, for example, in DE 199 52 648 A1.
- the disadvantage of the multi-part design is the high manufacturing effort and the associated high costs. Furthermore, the multi-part version unfavorable for turbocharged engines because the loader is not so close to Internal combustion engine can be placed, and thus energy loss through the Cooling of the exhaust gases must be accepted.
- the invention has for its object in an air gap insulated exhaust manifold one-piece design for four and multi-cylinder in-line engines available places where material overloads in the form of cracks or plastic Deformations based on thermal expansion do not occur.
- the advantageous design of the exhaust manifold it is possible to support the Shell, either the inner shell or preferably the outer shell, thin-walled to design, which saves weight and thus costs. It is with it possible an air gap-insulated exhaust manifold with a low heat capacity to provide, thereby quickly reaching the operating temperature and thus a quick start of the exhaust gas aftertreatment on cold start can be achieved. Furthermore, the exhaust manifold has a good one Isolation effect, so that the heat losses of the exhaust gas are minimal, resulting in leads to a higher temperature level of the exhaust gases and thus a faster one Start of the exhaust gas aftertreatment on cold start as well as an increased if necessary Enthalpy offer for a possibly connected exhaust gas turbocharger causes. With the advantageous design of the present exhaust manifold, a lighter, heat-insulated exhaust manifold with a long service life available provided that even with a six-cylinder in-line engine, or in one piece can be trained.
- the web has a Provide a through hole so that the web can be heated by hot exhaust gases, to support faster heating of the web, so that the thermal Expansion in the middle section of the exhaust manifold is additionally supported.
- the web can be provided with thermal insulation be provided so that its the extent of the central portion of the Exhaust manifold supportive effect is achieved quickly and during operation is maintained.
- the web can be made of one material be produced, which has a higher thermal expansion than the material of the remaining components of the exhaust manifold. In this way too Supporting the expansion of the central portion of the exhaust manifold become.
- the inner shell has the task of removing the exhaust gases from direct the inlet flanges to the common outlet flange.
- the inner shell is formed from several parts, the parts of the inner shell in areas are connected with great thermal expansion via a sliding seat.
- the outer shell takes on the supporting function and is gas-tight. This design with sliding seats on the inner shell makes it possible for the Inner shell that is exposed to higher thermal operating voltages than that Outer shell to allow optimal freedom of movement. Furthermore can through this design, the outer shell can be made thinner because the Outer shell not with thermal expansion stresses of the inner shell is applied.
- the exhaust manifold extends substantially along the exhaust ports of the internal combustion engine (not ) Shown.
- the exhaust manifold has an inner shell 1 by an outer shell 2 is surrounded so that an air gap 13 between the inner shell 1 and outer shell 2 is trained.
- Both the end region of the outer shell 2 and the The end region of the inner shell 1 projects into each inlet opening 3 ′ to one another 8 'in such a way that the outer shell 2 with respect to the inner shell 1 further into the respective inlet opening 3 'to 8' protrudes.
- the over the Inlet flanges 3 to 8 introduced exhaust gases on a common Outlet flange 10 merged.
- the level 11 of the outlet flange 10 is opposite the common plane of the inlet flanges by a parallel to the
- the longitudinal axis of the exhaust manifold is rotated by 90 ° arranged so that the exhaust gases in the central portion of the exhaust manifold compared to level 12 of the inlet flanges by 90 ° to level 11 of the Outlet flanges are deflected.
- the outlet flange 10 is approximately one circular outlet opening 10 '.
- Both the end of the Outer shell 2 and the end region of the inner shell 1 protrude from one another into the outlet opening 16 in such a way that the outer shell 2 opposite the Inner shell 1 protrudes further into the outlet opening 16.
- the weld 17 on the inner surface of the outlet opening 16 is the inner shell 1 and the outer shell 2 is connected to the outlet flange 10.
- the two middle inlet flanges 5 and 6 are connected to one another via a web 18 connected, which extends longitudinally to extend the exhaust manifold between the Entry flanges 5 and 6 extends.
- the inlet flanges 3 further out and 4, 4 and 5, 6 and 7, 7 and 8 are not connected to each other.
- the exhaust manifold is essentially symmetrical about a mirror plane 19 constructed by the center of the exhaust manifold along the outlet opening 16 and runs through the web 18 (Fig. 2).
- the further structure of the exhaust manifold is therefore only shown for one half of the exhaust manifold, since the other half is mirror-symmetrical to one half.
- the inner shell consists essentially of a connecting line 20, which is extends from the inlet opening 3 'to the outlet opening 10', one Connection line 21, which extends from the inlet opening 4 'to the outlet opening 10' extends and a connecting line 22 which extends from the inlet opening 5 'to Outlet opening 10 'extends.
- the connecting line 20, the outermost Inlet flange 3 connects to the outlet flange 10, is the longest of the three connecting lines, the connecting line 21 and 22 correspondingly are shorter.
- the connecting line 20 and 21 run in the area between the Inlet flange 4 and the inlet flange 5 parallel and unite into one common tube, which in the area of the inlet flange 5 as the collecting area 24 is trained.
- the collection area 24 consists of a first half-shell 25 and one second half shell 26 constructed.
- the first half-shell 25 includes the Inlet opening 5 'for the inlet flange 5.
- the first half-shell 25 and the second Half-shell 26 of the collecting area 24 are over a longitudinal one Lap weld 28 joined together.
- the overlap 29 is a sliding fit between the connecting lines 20 and 21 and the collecting area 24 are formed, so that thermal expansions a relative movement between the connecting lines 20, 21 and the Collection area 24 can take place.
- the collecting area 24 ends on the outlet side in the form of a Semicircle segment 30 and forms together with the collection area of the others symmetrical half of the exhaust manifold, the circular outlet opening 10 '.
- the inner shell 1 which from the Connection lines 20 to 22 is constructed, is a two-part outer shell 2 with a first outer half shell 33 and a second outer half shell 34 arranged.
- the inlet openings 3 'to 8 'and half of the outlet opening 10' At the first outer half-shell 33, the inlet openings 3 'to 8 'and half of the outlet opening 10'.
- the second outside Half shell 34 On the second outside Half shell 34 is formed the other half of the outlet opening 10 'and with the first outer half-shell 33 over all around, along to extend the Exhaust manifold extending lap weld 35 connected.
- Both the different components of the inner shell 1, like the Connecting lines 20, 21 and 22 as well as the components of the outer shell 2, which has the first outer half-shell 33 and the second outer half-shell 34, are preferred as deep-drawn parts made of thin-walled sheet metal, preferably stainless Stainless steel sheet made.
- the parts of the inner shell 1 are made of sheet metal a sheet thickness of preferably 0.8 mm
- the components of Outer shell 2 preferably made of sheet metal with a sheet thickness of 1.5 mm are manufactured.
- the inlet flanges 3 to 8, the outlet flange 10 and the Exhaust gas recirculation flange 32 are made of forged sheet metal with a Wall thickness of preferably 8 mm.
- the air gap 13 between the inner shell 1 and outer shell 2 is preferably between 4 to 6 mm. Since the inner shell 1 with the overlap 29 designed as a sliding seat for thermal Length compensation is provided, the inner shell 1 is not gas-tight.
- the Inner shell 1 serves with its connecting lines 20, 21 and 22, which are in the Collect collection area 24, the gas guide, the guide of the gases from the individual cylinders of the internal combustion engine largely separated runs from each other within the inner shell 1 to a favorable To achieve transient behavior of the internal combustion engine.
- the web 18 is between the inlet flange 5 and the inlet flange 6 with a longitudinal bore 36 so that hot Exhaust gases can flow through the web 18 in order to heat the web 18.
- the web 18 can be made of a material which has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of other components of the exhaust manifold.
