Abstract

The tree-trunk (16)is moved to and fro longitudinally (18) on a longitudinal conveyor (14). A transverse conveyor(20) enables the tree-trunk on the longitudinal conveyor to travel in a transverse direction (22) at right angles to the lengthwise direction. A machining appliance (32) machines the tree-trunk to a pre-set depth. A band-saw blade travels transversely. The longitudinal and transverse conveyors, the machining appliance and band saw blade are controlled by a control (52,54,56).
