Abstract

At least one additional band-saw unit (26) is provided next to the first band-saw unit (24) and like the first unit it also has a band-saw blade (38) with teeth oriented in both directions. The second band-saw blade is vertically offset from the first band-saw blade (36) by a distance equal to the width of one of the boards. A drive mechanism (28, 30) is provided for each band-saw unit, capable of moving the two units away from each other at right angles to the direction of the tree trunk conveyor when this direction is changed. An Independent claim is also included for a method for sawing up tree trunks into boards.
