Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method and an installation multi-plasma welding, preferably triplasma, in particular steels, stainless steels and nickel bases.
There are currently at least two welding techniques commonly used to weld steel materials, steels stainless steel, nickel, namely laser welding and TIG welding.
In TIG welding (for Tungsten Inert Gas) is based on the generation of an electric arc between an electrode, such as an electrode in tungsten with the addition of a fusible wire, and the part or parts to be welded.
The metal is melted under a gaseous atmosphere of protection, for example under a stream of argon, helium or a mixture of these two gases.
However, the welding speed of a TIG process varies depending on in particular the thickness of the material to be welded and the grade, nature or composition of the material to be welded.
For example, a welding speed of 1.3 m.min -1 can be reached for a given material and thickness, while this same material in a thickness less, for example by about half, can be welded to a welding speed of the order of 4 m. min -1 , approximately 3 times faster.
In an attempt to improve the efficiency of welding, a variant TIG welding has been developed, namely TIG welding multicathodes with double protective gas flow.
Ainsi, le document "High speed single sided welding of thin sheet by multi electrode arc welding"; K. Yasuda et al.; Quarterly Journal of the Japan Welding Society; 1987-5(4), p.477-482, rapporte que le soudage TIG double cathodes permet d'améliorer la vitesse de soudage de plaques de nuance SUS 304 et d'épaisseur allant jusqu'à 1,2 mm.Thus, the document "High speed single sided welding of thin sheet by multi electrode arc welding "; K. Yasuda et al .; Quarterly Journal of the Japan Welding Society; 1987-5 (4), p.477-482, reports that TIG double cathode welding improves the speed of welding of SUS 304 grade sheets up to thickness 1.2 mm.
De manière analogue, le document "Configurational optimization of 3 TIG torches bases on bead-on welding tests"; Y. MIYAMOTO et al., Journal of the JSTP; vol. Similarly, the document "Configurational optimization of 3 TIG torches bases on bead-on welding tests "; Y. MIYAMOTO et al., Journal of the JSTP; flight. 29; No. 333; 1988-10, p. 1067-1073, describes a TIG tricathode welding process allowing rapid welding of 0.7 mm thick titanium tubes.
Furthermore, document EP-A-896853 still provides a improvement of existing processes.
However, these multicathode TIG methods are very often limited in thickness which can be welded at full penetration.
In addition, in general, these are not suitable for thicknesses greater than 1.5 mm or else these thicknesses may be reached only at the cost of a significant decrease in the speed of welding and / or weld penetration efficiency.
Document US-A-4,143,260 describes a three-way welding installation electrodes.
In addition, document EP-A-896,853 teaches a welding process using the electric arc not implementing any preheating before welding, nor no post-welding finishing step.
Finally, the document DE-A-27 08 618 describes a plasma welding process automatic using three successive electrodes each delivering same welding energy, each electrode having its own nozzle.
The problem then is to be able to weld not only at a high welding speed, but also efficiently, preferably at full penetration, of the material or materials to be welded, including including significant thicknesses, namely approximately 1.5 mm to 6 mm.
In other words, the object of the present invention is improve existing welding processes so that guarantee from an industrial point of view, high productivity, especially in terms of welding speed and weld penetration thickness.
- preheating or stapling using the first plasma jet,
- substantially full penetration welding using the second plasma jet, and
- to a final welding by means of the third plasma jet.
- la première énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE1) du premier jet de plasma est inférieure à la deuxième énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE2) deuxième jet de plasma ;
- la troisième énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE3) dudit troisième jet de plasma est inférieure à la deuxième énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE2) dudit deuxième jet de plasma ;
- le soudage sensiblement à pleine pénétration est en mode key-hole;
- durant le soudage de finition, le troisième jet de plasma peut être animé d'un mouvement d'oscillation, par exemple par déviation électro-magnétique de l'arc ;
- la vitesse de soudage est comprise entre environ 0.8 6 m.min-1 et 6 m.min-1 ;
- la première énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE1) du premier jet de plasma est comprise entre 0.5 et 2.5 kJ/cm;
- la deuxième énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE2) du deuxième jet de plasma est comprise entre 1.5 et 3 kJ/cm;
- la troisième énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE3) du troisième jet de plasma est comprise entre 1 et 2.5 kJ/cm;
- l'épaisseur moyenne de la ou des pièces métalliques au niveau d'au moins une partie du plan de joint est comprise entre 0.5 mm et 7 mm; de préférence d'environ 1 mm à 6 mm, de préférence d'au moins 1.5 mm ;
- the first linear welding energy (ΔE1) of the first plasma jet is less than the second linear welding energy (ΔE2) of the second plasma jet;
- the third linear welding energy (ΔE3) of said third plasma jet is less than the second linear welding energy (ΔE2) of said second plasma jet;
- welding substantially at full penetration is in key-hole mode;
- during the finishing welding, the third plasma jet can be made to oscillate, for example by electro-magnetic deflection of the arc;
- the welding speed is between approximately 0.8 6 m.min -1 and 6 m.min -1 ;
- the first linear welding energy (ΔE1) of the first plasma jet is between 0.5 and 2.5 kJ / cm;
- the second linear welding energy (ΔE2) of the second plasma jet is between 1.5 and 3 kJ / cm;
- the third linear welding energy (ΔE3) of the third plasma jet is between 1 and 2.5 kJ / cm;
- the average thickness of the metal part (s) at at least part of the joint plane is between 0.5 mm and 7 mm; preferably about 1 mm to 6 mm, preferably at least 1.5 mm;
- the metal part or parts are made of a metal chosen from carbon steels, stainless steels, nickel, aluminum and the metal alloys containing them.
Contrairement à un procédé de soudage TIG multicathodes, selon l'art antérieur, le procédé de soudage multiplasma selon l'invention permet d'augmenter l'efficacité du soudage étant donné que la densité d'énergie de chaque jet de plasma est nettement supérieure à celle pouvant être obtenue en soudage TIG.Unlike a multicathode TIG welding process, according to the prior art, the multiplasma welding process according to the invention makes it possible to increase the efficiency of welding given that the energy density of each plasma jet is clearly higher than that which can be obtained in TIG welding.
In addition, the multiplasma process according to the invention has a important interest, namely that by playing on the energy density of each plasma jet, it is possible to assign to each of said jets a different linear welding energy (ΔE) and therefore a function different during the welding operation.
- un premier jet de plasma dont l'énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE1) est fixée à une valeur permettant de réaliser un préchauffage concentré du niveau du plan de joint, par exemple une énergie de 1 kJ/cm ;
- un deuxième jet de plasma dont l'énergie linéaire de soudage (ΔE2) est fixée à une valeur permettant de réaliser un soudage en mode key-hole à pleine pénétration du ou des matériaux à souder pour aboutir à la réalisation d'un cordon de soudure étroit, par exemple une énergie de 2 kJ/cm ;
- a first plasma jet whose linear welding energy (ΔE1) is fixed at a value making it possible to achieve concentrated preheating of the level of the joint plane, for example an energy of 1 kJ / cm;
- a second plasma jet whose linear welding energy (ΔE2) is fixed at a value making it possible to carry out welding in key-hole mode with full penetration of the material or materials to be welded to result in the production of a weld bead narrow, for example an energy of 2 kJ / cm;
- and a third plasma jet whose linear welding energy (ΔE3) is fixed at a value making it possible to perform a finished weld of the weld bead produced, for example an energy of 1.5 kJ / cm.
- for a thickness of 2.5 to 3.5 mm, a first plasma jet is generated whose energy (ΔE1) is fixed at 1.5 kJ / cm for stapling the joint plane, that is to say penetration welding only partial, a second plasma jet whose energy (ΔE2) is fixed at 2 kJ / cm to achieve full penetration welding in key-hole mode and third plasma jet whose energy (ΔE3) is fixed at 2.5 kJ / cm to achieve a smooth finish on the weld bead; and
- for a thickness> 3.5 mm, a first plasma jet is generated whose energy (ΔE1) is fixed at 2.5 kJ / cm to staple the joint plane, a second plasma jet whose energy (ΔE2) is fixed at 3 kJ / cm to perform welding in key-hole mode and third plasma jet whose energy (ΔE3) is fixed at 2.5 kJ / cm to achieve a smoothing finish.
It follows that the method of the invention allows a large flexibility of use and leads to narrow weld beads and even for high thicknesses, i.e. from 1.5 mm to 6 mm about.
In addition, preferably, the efficiency of the process is increased. triplasma according to the invention by operating or respecting the distribution ground plugs as recommended in document EP-A-896853, incorporated here by reference.
According to another aspect, the invention also relates to a automatic multi-plasma welding installation according to claim 10.
De préférence, la distance séparant les orifices de sortie des tuyères internes de deux torches successives est comprise entre 20 et 30 mm.Preferably, the distance between the outlet openings of the internal nozzles of two successive torches is included between 20 and 30 mm.
Advantageously, the method of the invention can be used to make a metal tube from a metal sheet having a thickness between 0.5 mm and 6 mm and of which two longitudinal edges forming ends of said sheet metal are joined end-to-end according to a joint plane and welded with each other along said parting line.
We see a welding torch with a row of 3 tungsten refractory E electrodes aligned, in front view (one single electrode shown), each of said electrodes E being located inside 2 concentric nozzles, namely a nozzle internal BI and an annular nozzle BA, forming a sleeve around each electrode E.
A first protective gas G1 travels between each nozzle annular BA and each internal nozzle BI, and a second gas G2 of protection runs, meanwhile, between each internal nozzle BI and each electrode E, so as to form a gaseous atmosphere of protection in the ZS welding area.
Said protective gas atmosphere consists of a single gas or a mixture of several gases, for example helium and argon or hydrogen and argon.
The first and second gases G1 and G2 are distributed at the outlet internal BI and annular BA nozzles in a central internal FI flow and into a peripheral external flow.
As can be seen in Figure 1, each electrode E generates an electric arc A1, A2 and A3, which electric arc goes allow progressive penetration of the thickness of the tube T to weld, at the level of the ZS welding zone until forming a plane seal.
However, as explained above, this type of welding does not not achieve high performance, especially when the thickness of the tube T to be welded is greater than 1.5 mm.
Figure 2 shows schematically, a welding operation triplasma of a T tube according to the present invention.
The automatic TS welding torch also has 3 electrodes E aligned (only one electrode shown) in front view.
Each electrode E is inserted inside an internal nozzle TI fitted with an OT nozzle orifice allowing the outlet of the jet of plasma JP.
Each internal TI nozzle is surrounded by a nozzle annular external BA.
A GP plasma gas is introduced into the chamber CP plasma from each internal GI nozzle, where it ionizes on contact of the electric arc delivered by electrode E, before being ejected by the OT outlet.
An annular protective gas GA is supplied by the annular chamber CA located between the walls of the internal nozzles TI and annular.
At the ZS welding area, the first plasma jet J1 provides preheating of the joint plane of the tube T or a stapling of it, the second plasma jet J2, whose energy welding line (ΔE2) is greater than that (ΔE1) of the first jet of plasma J, allows welding in key-hole mode at full penetration, that is to say over the entire thickness of the tube T, and the third J3 plasma jet for finishing welding under a lower linear welding energy (ΔE3) than that (ΔE2) of the second plasma jet J2.
Figure 3 shows an automatic installation of prior art TIG tricathode welding, whereas FIGS. 4 and 5 represent diagrams of two embodiments of a triplasma installation according to the present invention.
More specifically, we see in Figure 3 three torches T1 to T3 equipped with double-flow nozzle B1 to B2, similar to those in the figure 1, each comprising a tungsten electrode E1 to E3, placed next to a piece P to be welded.
Each electrode E1 to E3 is supplied with electric current by a source S1 to S3 of its own current.
The torches T1 to T3 are independent of each other and the electric arcs are ignited between the electrodes E1 to E3 and the room P.
La figure 4 représente un premier mode de réalisation d'une installation automatique de soudage triplasma mettant en oeuvre le procédé selon l'invention comportant, 3 torches à plasma indépendantes les unes des autres.FIG. 4 represents a first embodiment of a automatic triplasma welding system implementing the process according to the invention comprising, 3 plasma torches independent of each other.
Each torch T1 to T3 is provided with an electrode E1 to E3, respectively, an internal nozzle TI and an annular nozzle TA, as shown schematically in Figure 2.
Dans ce cas, chaque tuyère interne TI est isolée électriquement des autres tuyères internes TI et, de manière analogue, chaque tuyère annulaire TA est isolée électriquement des autres tuyères annulaires TA.In this case, each internal nozzle TI is electrically insulated other internal TI nozzles and, similarly, each nozzle annular TA is electrically isolated from other annular nozzles YOUR.
The establishment of plasma jets is done by creation, first, a pilot arc between each electrode and each internal nozzle TI, then transfer of the electric arc and the ionized plasma gas, therefore from the plasma jet, towards the part P to be welded.
Figure 5 is similar to Figure 4, but represents the mode of achievement of the multiplasma welding installation automatic according to of the invention, in which the 3 torches T1 to T3 have a single TU nozzle forming a nozzle block unique.
In this case, the high frequency ignition and arc system pilot is common to the 3 torches and the gas protection is also unique.
Figure 6 is a diagram, in bottom view, of the use of a triplasmas installation according to the invention for manufacturing metal T tubes from a metal sheet, both of which longitudinal edges are brought together so form the joint plane PJ to be welded.
This installation is similar to that of FIG. 5 and includes a row of 3 plasma torches, T1, T2 and T3, aligned and each comprising an internal nozzle TI and an annular nozzle YOUR; said annular nozzles TA being formed from a nozzle block unique.
Le tube T à souder est animé d'un mouvement de déplacement relatif en translation par rapport à la rangée de torche T1 à T3; le sens de déplacement du tube T étant le sens de la flèche F.The T tube to be welded is moved relative in translation with respect to the torch row T1 to T3; the direction of movement of the tube T being the direction of the arrow F.
The linear welding energy of the torch T1 is adjusted for preheat or staple the joint plane.
The linear welding energy of the torch T2 is adjusted for perform full penetration welding in key-hole mode from the seal.
The linear welding energy of torch T3 is adjusted for perform a final weld of the weld bead, preferably the plasma jet delivered by the T3 torch is animated by a movement oscillating as indicated by arrow F '.
As we can see, the whole joint plane PJ can be broken down into 4 distinct zones A, B, C and D.
More precisely, zone A corresponds to the part of the plane of joint PJ of tube T which has not yet been subjected to one of the jets of plasma.
Zone C corresponds to the part of the joint plane PJ having undergone successively preheating or stapling (zone B) then a full penetration welding in key-hole mode using the second plasma jet delivered by the T2 torch.
In order to validate the triplasmas process of the invention, several contiguous edge-to-edge welding tests were carried out on two metallic pieces of stainless steel 1 to 4 mm thick, using several types of gas, namely argon, and mixtures of argon and hydrogen, in particular the NOXAL 2 TM and
En outre, on a fait varier la distance électrode/tuyère de 0,5 mm à 3 mm.The tests were carried out at plasma gas flow rates of 1.5 l.min -1 to 4 l.min -1 . In addition, the electrode / nozzle distance was varied from 0.5 mm to 3 mm.
In all cases, the results have been satisfactory and have achieved efficient full penetration welding for welding speeds up to 4 m / min to 6 m / min, for significantly greater thicknesses (up to 4 mm) than those reached conventionally in TIG welding, as well as a very significant of the resistance of the electrodes compared to TIG welding traditional where the electrodes should be changed, at best, all 4 to 5 hours, thereby generating each time replacement, shutdown of the welding installation.
Furthermore, according to the invention, the stability of the 3 plasma arcs has been equally satisfactory in all cases and no difficulty ignition could not be detected for the various gases used.
