Definitions
- the present invention relates to an excavating ripper (tooth) and more particularly to the excavating ripper being attached to a tip of an excavating machine bucket to do excavating.
- the conventional excavating ripple has a shortcoming that, since the excavating ripple is of a wedge-type of a straight-line shape, it is not always to operate suitably in response to a movement of the bucket body doing excavating by drawing an arc and therefore sharpness of the excavating ripple cannot be optimized for the excavating a firm ground or even if the excavating ripple is used in the excavating of such firm grounds, it becomes worn away easily, losing sharpness of the ripple. That is, the excavating ripple having such the conventional straight-line shape presents a difficulty in its excavating power and durability.
- a curved excavating ripple is disclosed in Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47- 2701, Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47-15401 or a like.
- the excavating ripple disclosed in the Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47-15401 though its attaching root portion and excavating ripple body portion are curved as a whole, its single excavating ripple body itself is of the wedge -type of a straight-line shape.
- the excavating ripple disclosed in the Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47-15401 one face of the ripple only is curved and its other face is almost flat.

- Figure 6B is a perspective view showing a separated state of the excavating ripple 1a and the adaptor 5 according to the first embodiment of the present invention.
- the wedge-type excavating ripple 1a is pinned on a specified arm 21 of an excavating machine for construction so as to be rotatable.
- the wedge-type excavating ripple 1a is attached to an extreme tip of the bucket body 4 of an excavating machine operated so as to draw an arc around a pin 3 by extension and contraction of the arm rod 22. That is, as shown in Fig. 1A to Fig. 4, the excavating ripple 1a includes a hollow base 6a having a hollow recess into which the adaptor 5 (see Figs. 5, 6A and 6B) serving as a joining member to join the bucket body 4 with the excavating ripple 1a together is inserted and a thick-walled, tapering solid tip end 7a.
- An inner face 8a of the excavating ripple 1a faces to a rotation center of the arc and an outer face 9a of the excavating ripple 1 faces against the rotation center of the arc.
- the excavating ripple 1a is so configured as to be curved and warped toward a direction of the rotation center along its base portion to its tip end portion.
- a tip edge of the excavating ripple 1a is so constructed to form a straight line being wide and being orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of the excavating ripple 1a.
- the excavating ripple 1a of the first embodiment of the present invention since it is of a wedge-type of a curved shape, it can be operated suitably in response to the movement of the bucket body 4 which is adapted to do excavating while drawing the arc, thus eliminating wasteful distribution of force which enables sharpness to be provided to excavating work in firm grounds and abrasion to be remarkably reduced. That is, excavating power and durability of the excavating ripple 1a are greatly improved.
- the durability of the excavating ripple la can be improved without an increase in costs. It is not always necessary to construct all regions of the inner face 8a and outer face 9a so as to have curved faces and, for example, only the thick-walled taping solid tip end may be worked so as to be curved.
- a modified example shows that the relation among a mean radius of curvature "r1" of curved regions at the inner face 6a, a mean radius of curvature “r2” of curved regions at the outer face 7a and a mean radius "R” of the arc drawn by the bucket body 4 around the pin 3 that can satisfy an expression of "0.8R ⁇ (r1 + r2) / ⁇ 1.2 R is also very preferable from the viewpoint of durability and excavating power.

Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to an excavating ripper (tooth) and more particularly to the excavating ripper being attached to a tip of an excavating machine bucket to do excavating.
- When excavating is done by operating an excavating bucket attached to a tip of an excavating machine such as a power shovel or a like, a road surface is excavated by using a plurality of wedge-type excavating rippers being extruded from a tip of the bucket body and excavated matters such as an earth and sand is removed or gathered by being housed in the bucket body. At this point, as shown in Fig. 61, the
bucket body 3, by expansion and contraction of anarm rod 6, is caused to draw an arc around apin 7 placed at a tip of anarm 4, thus enabling theexcavating ripple 2 to intrude into objects to be excavated such as the earth and sand to shave them off.
- To solve this kind of inconvenience, a curved excavating ripple is disclosed in Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47- 2701, Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47-15401 or a like. In the excavating ripple disclosed in the Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47-15401, though its attaching root portion and excavating ripple body portion are curved as a whole, its single excavating ripple body itself is of the wedge -type of a straight-line shape. On the other hand, in the excavating ripple disclosed in the Japanese Utility Model Application No. sho 47-15401, one face of the ripple only is curved and its other face is almost flat.
- Inventors of the present invention have made comparison tests on performance between the excavating ripples disclosed in both the Japanese Utility Model Applications and conventional excavating ripples. However, it is concluded from the comparison test that the excavating ripples disclosed in both the Japanese Utility Model Applications are not superior to the conventional excavating ripples in terms of its excavating power and durability. In view of the above, it is an object of the present invention to provide an excavating ripple capable of dramatically improving its excavating power and durability.
- The best mode for carrying out this invention will be explained below with reference to the drawings. The explanation is in concrete terms using embodiments.

Figure 4F is a rear view of the characteristing portion, shown in a solid line, of theexcavating ripple 1a according to the first embodiment of the present invention. Figure 5 is a perspective view showing configurations of anexcavating bucket 4 of a power shovel according to the first embodiment of the present invention. Figure 6A is a perspective view showing a joined state of theexcavating ripple 1a and anadaptor 5 according to the first embodiment of the present invention. Figure 6B is a perspective view showing a separated state of theexcavating ripple 1a and theadaptor 5 according to the first embodiment of the present invention. As shown in Fig. 5, the wedge-type excavating ripple 1a is pinned on a specifiedarm 21 of an excavating machine for construction so as to be rotatable. The wedge-type excavating ripple 1a is attached to an extreme tip of thebucket body 4 of an excavating machine operated so as to draw an arc around apin 3 by extension and contraction of thearm rod 22. That is, as shown in Fig. 1A to Fig. 4, theexcavating ripple 1a includes ahollow base 6a having a hollow recess into which the adaptor 5 (see Figs. 5, 6A and 6B) serving as a joining member to join thebucket body 4 with the excavatingripple 1a together is inserted and a thick-walled, taperingsolid tip end 7a. Aninner face 8a of theexcavating ripple 1a faces to a rotation center of the arc and anouter face 9a of theexcavating ripple 1 faces against the rotation center of the arc. Theexcavating ripple 1a is so configured as to be curved and warped toward a direction of the rotation center along its base portion to its tip end portion. A tip edge of theexcavating ripple 1a is so constructed to form a straight line being wide and being orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of theexcavating ripple 1a. - According to the
excavating ripple 1a of the first embodiment of the present invention, since it is of a wedge-type of a curved shape, it can be operated suitably in response to the movement of thebucket body 4 which is adapted to do excavating while drawing the arc, thus eliminating wasteful distribution of force which enables sharpness to be provided to excavating work in firm grounds and abrasion to be remarkably reduced. That is, excavating power and durability of the excavatingripple 1a are greatly improved. Moreover, by constructing the base portion of theexcavating ripple 1a using common steel or high strength steel such as SS400 and the tip portion using abrasion resistant steel such as HARDOX 400, 500, and 600 (trade names of products from SSAB Sweden Steel Corporation), the durability of the excavating ripple la can be improved without an increase in costs. It is not always necessary to construct all regions of theinner face 8a andouter face 9a so as to have curved faces and, for example, only the thick-walled taping solid tip end may be worked so as to be curved. Experiments show that a relation between a mean radius of curvature "r" of at least one curved region (the inner face in this embodiment) out of curved regions at the inner and outer faces and a mean radius "R" of the arc drawn by thebucket body 4 around thepin 3 that can satisfy an expression of "0.8 R < r < 1.2R" is very preferable from the viewpoint of durability and excavating power. Furthermore, a modified example shows that the relation among a mean radius of curvature "r1" of curved regions at theinner face 6a, a mean radius of curvature "r2" of curved regions at theouter face 7a and a mean radius "R" of the arc drawn by thebucket body 4 around thepin 3 that can satisfy an expression of "0.8R < (r1 + r2) / < 1.2 R is also very preferable from the viewpoint of durability and excavating power. - Figure 7A is a perspective view showing an appearance of an
