Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a strip of electrical contact strips for an electrical connector, said strips being joined at their ends by two continuous lateral strips, the strips being taken out of the plane of said lateral strips by twisting around their axis. longitudinal, perpendicular to the length of the strip.
Such a strip of electrical contact strips is used in an electrical connector comprising two parts, linked respectively to one and to the other of the members to be electrically connected, the strip being an intermediate contact member ensuring elastic contact and linked to one of the two rooms. The connector can be flat and include two contact plates between which the strip is placed, linked to one of the plates, or else constitute a coaxial cylindrical connector comprising a male part and a female part, one of the two parts comprising a housing for the band.
The invention applies in particular, although not limitatively, for the contacts for the passage of permanent currents in the high and medium voltage equipment.
The document FR 2 339 259 describes, in relation to FIGS. 7, 10 and 11 of the document, a strip of electrical contact strips of a type as defined above. In this document, the strip of lamellae is made of an electrically conductive or non-conductive material and the blades are coated in their central part with a layer of an electrically conductive material which envelops the two edges of each blade. We can therefore separate, thanks to this arrangement, the two necessary functions of elastic contact and good electrical conductivity. Indeed, the material of the strip which must ensure an elastic contact in the manner of a spring does not necessarily have good qualities of electrical conductivity. However, the strip of strips of the above document, each strip of which comprises a layer of electrically conductive material enveloping the two edges of the strip, is not easy to manufacture, each strip having to be individually coated with its conductive layer .
Document US-A-4039238 which is considered to represent the closest prior art described, in connection with FIG. 7, a strip of contact strips having a laminated structure comprising a layer of good conductive material and a layer of a material having a high elasticity, however this arrangement ensures good electrical contact only on one of the two parts of the electrical connector.
The document also mentions its manufacturing process.
The object of the present invention is to propose a method ensuring simple manufacture of a strip of electrical contact strips.
The subject of the invention is therefore a method of manufacturing a strip of electrical contact strips for an electrical connector, said strips being joined at their ends by two continuous lateral strips, the strips being pulled out of the plane of said lateral strips by twisting around their longitudinal axis, perpendicular to the length of the strip, method according to which starts from a strip of a plastically deformable material and capable, after treatment, of having elastic spring properties, in that at least the central part of the strip, on only one of its two faces, is coated with a layer of a material that is a good electrical conductor, said strip then being notched so as to obtain said strips and continuous side strips, said strips being taken out of the plane of said side strips by said twist, in that one of the edges of each strip is folded into a hem in the direction where the electrically conductive coating remains outside, said strip then being subjected to a hardening treatment to give it elastic spring properties.
The invention also relates to a strip of electrical contact strips for an electrical connector, said strips being joined at their ends by two continuous lateral strips, the strips being taken out of the plane of said lateral strips by twisting around their longitudinal, perpendicular axis. the length of the strip, said strip being made of a material having elastic spring properties, at least the central part of each strip being coated on one of its faces with an electrically good conductive material, characterized in that the one of the edges of each strip is folded into a hem in a direction revealing the electrically conductive coating on the outside.
- Figs. 1 to 5 illustrate the steps of the process for manufacturing a strip of electrical contact strips according to the invention, FIGS. 4 and 5 showing the final result.
- Fig. 6 schematically shows a cylindrical coaxial electrical connector in which a strip of electrical contact strips according to the invention is used.
- Fig. 6 very schematically shows a cylindrical coaxial electrical connector comprising a female part 1 and a male part 2 in electrically conductive materials. An intermediate strip 3 of electrical contact strips is linked to the male part 2. This intermediate strip which must ensure good electrical contact between the male 2 and female 1 parts also has the function of ensuring elastic contact between the two parts. .
Such a strip 3 of electrical contact strips can also be used in a flat electrical connector where the two parts 1 and 2 are then flat and the strip 3 linked to one of the two.
Referring now to Figs. 1 to 5, we will describe the process for manufacturing such a strip 3 of electrical contact strips.
On part, fig. We leave, fig. 1, a strip 4 of a plastically deformable material and capable, after treatment, of having elastic spring properties. For example, a beryllium-bronze alloy is used. This material can be softened by a heat treatment at 750 ° C followed by quenching giving it good malleability.
We therefore start from such a material then, as shown in FIG. 2, the central part of the strip receives, on one of its faces only, a layer 5 of a material which is a good electrical conductor. This is for example a silver plating. In accordance with fig. 3, the strip 4 is then notched so as to cut it according to the desired contours, revealing strips 6 connected at their ends by two continuous lateral strips 7 and 8, and comprising tabs 9 used for the connection of the strip with the 'one of the parts of the connector with which it is associated.
5.The strips 6 are then taken out of the plane of the lateral strips 7 and 8 by twisting around their longitudinal axis X perpendicular to the length L of the strip. The edges 10 and 11 of each strip, as seen in fig. 5, are also curved and especially one of the edges, the lower edge in FIG. 5, is completely folded down at hem 12 as shown in FIG. 5.
Of course, the hem 12 is folded in the direction where the electrically good conductive plating 5 remains outside the fold.
As also shown in figs. 4 and 5, and especially fig. 5 which shows the strip in section along VV of FIG. 4, the lateral strips 7 and 8 are pleated so as to bring the strips 6 closer to one another and thus obtain a greater number of strips per unit of strip length.
When the strip is thus placed between the two conjugate parts of an electrical, flat, or cylindrical connector as in FIG. 6, the contact points of each strip ensuring the passage of current from one part to another are shown at 13 and 14 on one of the strips 6, fig. 5. Thus, thanks to the "hem" 12, it is not necessary to make a plating enveloping the edges of the lamellae 6 and the manufacture is facilitated since it suffices, by any known means, to carry out a plating, fig. 2, on only one of the two sides of the original tape 4.
Notching and shaping operations: twisting, bending, are then carried out very easily.
Once the making of the strip is finished, it suffices to subject it to a treatment giving it elastic spring properties.
In the case of the example cited of a beryllium-bronze alloy strip, a hardening treatment is carried out by heat treatment at approximately 325 ° C. for approximately three hours.
Thus, the invention makes it possible to manufacture in a very simple manner a strip of electrical contact strips in which a material can be chosen for its mechanical and elastic qualities, independently of its qualities of electrical conductivity.
