Abstract

The method consists in using a strip of a plastically deformable material which is capable of acquiring elastic spring properties after treatment. The central portion of the strip is coated in a layer of electrically conductive material and then the strip is punched so as to obtain springs which are interconnected at their ends by two continuous side strips. Thereafter, the springs are displaced from the plane of the strip being twisted about their respective longitudinal axes, and one edge of each spring is folded down as a hem in the direction which ensures that the layer of conductive material remains on the outside of the fold. Thereafter, the strip is subjected to hardening treatment to confer elastic properties thereto.

Description

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a strip of electrical contact strips for an electrical connector, said connectors slats being joined at their ends by two lateral bands continuous, the lamellae being taken out of the plane of said lateral strips by twist around their longitudinal axis, perpendicular to the length of the bandaged.

Such a strip of electrical contact strips is used in a electrical connector comprising two parts, respectively linked to one and to the other of the members to be electrically connected, the strip being a member contact intermediary ensuring elastic contact and linked to one of the two pieces. The connector can be flat and include two plates of contact between which the strip is placed, linked to one of the plates, or make a coaxial cylindrical connector with a male part and a female part, one of the two parts comprising a housing for the bandaged.

The invention applies in particular, although not limited to, for the permanent current passing contacts in the upper switchgear and medium voltage.

The document FR 2 339 259 describes, in relation to FIGS. 7, 10 and 11 of the document, a strip of electrical contact strips of a type such as defined above. In this document, the strip of lamellae is made of a material electrically conductive or non-conductive and the blades are coated in their central part by a layer of an electrically conductive material which wraps the two edges of each blade. So we can separate, thanks in this arrangement, the two necessary functions of elastic contact and of good electrical conductivity. Indeed, the material of the strip which must ensuring elastic contact like a spring does not necessarily good qualities of electrical conductivity. However, the gang of lamellae of the above document, each lamella of which has a layer of an electrically conductive material enveloping the two edges of the lamella, is not easy to manufacture, each lamella must be individually coated with its conductive layer.

The object of the present invention is to propose a method ensuring simple manufacture of a strip of electrical contact strips.

The subject of the invention is therefore a method of manufacturing a strip of electrical contact strips for an electrical connector, said connectors slats being joined at their ends by two lateral bands continuous, the lamellae being taken out of the plane of said lateral strips by twist around their longitudinal axis, perpendicular to the length of the strip, characterized in that one starts from a strip of material plastically deformable and capable, after treatment, of having elastic spring properties, in that at least the central part of the strip, on only one of its two faces, is coated with a layer of material which is a good electrical conductor, said strip then being notched with so as to obtain said continuous side strips and strips, said lamellae being taken out of the plane of said lateral strips by said twist, in that one of the edges of each strip is folded up in the direction of the hem where the electrically conductive coating remains outside, said strip then being subjected to a hardening treatment to give it elastic spring properties.

The invention also relates to a strip of contact strips electrical for an electrical connector, said strips being joined to their ends by two continuous lateral bands, the slats being exits from the plane of said lateral strips by twisting around their axis longitudinal, perpendicular to the length of the strip, said strip being in a material with elastic spring properties, characterized in that at least the central part of each strip is coated on a single of its faces of an electrically good conductive material, and in that one of the edges of each slat is folded into a hem in a direction leaving appear electrically conductive coating on the outside.

On va maintenant donner la description d'un exemple de mise en oeuvre de l'invention en se reportant au dessin annexé dans lequel :We will now give the description of an example of setting work of the invention with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:

Figs. 1 to 5 illustrate the steps of the process for manufacturing a strip of electrical contact strips according to the invention, FIGS. 4 and 5 showing the end result.

Fig. 6 schematically shows a coaxial electrical connector cylindrical in which a strip of contact strips is used electric according to the invention.

Fig. 6 very schematically shows an electrical connector cylindrical coaxial comprising a female part 1 and a male part 2 in electrically conductive materials. An intermediate strip 3 of electrical contact strips are linked to the male part 2. This strip intermediate which must ensure good electrical contact between the male parts 2 and female 1 also has the function of ensuring elastic contact between the two pieces.

Such a strip 3 of electrical contact strips can also be used in a flat electrical connector where the two parts 1 and 2 are then flat and the strip 3 linked to one of the two.

Referring now to Figs. 1 to 5, we will describe the process of manufacture of such a strip 3 of electrical contact strips.

On part, fig. We leave, fig. 1, a strip 4 of a plastically deformable material and capable, after treatment, of having elastic spring properties. We uses, for example, a beryllium-bronze alloy. This material can be softened by a heat treatment at 750 ° C followed by quenching giving it good malleability.

We therefore start from such a material then, as shown in FIG. 2, the central part of the strip receives, on one of its faces only, a layer 5 of a material that is a good electrical conductor. This is for example a silver plating. In accordance with fig. 3, the strip 4 is then notched so as to cut it according to the desired contours, revealing strips 6 connected at their ends by two continuous lateral bands 7 and 8, and comprising tabs 9 used for connecting the strip with one of the parts of the connector with which it is associated.

5.The slats 6 are then removed from the plane of the lateral strips 7 and 8 by twisting around their longitudinal axis X perpendicular to the length L Of the band. The edges 10 and 11 of each strip, as seen in fig. 5 are also curved and especially one of the edges, the lower edge in fig. 5, is completely folded down at hem 12 as shown in FIG. 5.

Of course, the hem 12 is folded in the direction where the plating electrically good conductor 5 remains outside the fold.

As also shown in figs. 4 and 5, and especially fig. 5 which shows the strip in section along V-V in fig. 4, the side bands 7 and 8 are pleated so as to bring the strips 6 closer to one another and thus obtaining a greater number of lamellae per unit length of bandaged.

When the strip is thus placed between the two conjugate parts an electrical, flat, or cylindrical connector as in fig. 6, the contact points of each strip ensuring the passage of current from a part to another are shown in 13 and 14 on one of the strips 6, fig. 5. So thanks to the "hem" 12, it is not necessary to make a plating wrapping the edges of the lamellas 6 and the manufacture is facilitated since it is sufficient, by any known means, to carry out a plating, FIG. 2, on only one of two sides of the soundtrack 4.

The notching and shaping operations: twisting, bending, are then made very easily.

Once the tape is finished, just submit it to a treatment giving it elastic spring properties.

In the case of the example cited of a beryllium-bronze alloy strip, a hardening treatment is carried out by heat treatment at about 325 ° C for about three hours.

Thus, the invention makes it possible to manufacture in a very simple manner a strip of electrical contact strips in which one can choose a material for its mechanical qualities and elasticity, regardless of its electrical conductivity qualities.
