Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method according to the preambles of claims 1 and 2 and an apparatus according to the preambles of claims 23 and 24.
- FIG. 1 A possible construction of a system in which several devices are connected via a bus is shown schematically in FIG.
- the devices to be connected are denoted by the reference symbols N1, N2,... Nn
- the bus connecting these devices is denoted by the reference symbol BUS.
- each of the devices N1, N2,... Nn can transmit data to any other device via the bus BUS.
- the present invention is therefore based on the object, the method according to the preamble of claims 1 and 2 and the devices according to the preambles of claims 23 and 24 such that they allow data transmission, on the one hand very fast and efficient, and in which On the other hand, it can be ensured that the data to be transmitted arrives without errors.
- the transmission of data can be done in a surprisingly simple way at the same time extremely fast, efficient and secure.
- any other information can be obtained from the devices connected to the bus.
- the method described below is for transferring data between devices connected via a bus;
- the device described below is a device suitable for carrying out the method.
- a possible construction of the system in which the method and the device can be used is shown in FIG. 1 already described above. However, it should be noted at this point that there is no restriction on the construction shown in FIG. The system can also be structured differently.
- bus may be understood a non-connection-oriented communication connection, via which optically, electrically or otherwise data can be exchanged between devices connected to the bus.
- each of the devices N1, N2, ... Nn connected to the bus BUS can become bus masters; It is a so-called multi-master bus system.
- the use of the method described below also proves to be advantageous if only a single device or only a few of the existing devices can be bus master.
- the devices N1, N2, ... Nn connected to the bus BUS determine who is bus master. This is the same as with the CAN bus, taking into account the data transmitted via the bus; As long as a particular device finds the data it outputs on the bus, it can feel like a bus master.
- the bus BUS of the system under consideration is supplied by default with a potential representing level 0, and is "only" brought to a different potential when a bit having the level 1 is to be transmitted via the bus. Because the potential representing the level 0 can be drawn to the potential representing the level 1 as needed, bits having the level 1 are referred to as dominant bits, and the level 0 bits are referred to as recessive bits. It will be clear that there is no restriction on this. It could of course also be provided that the bits having the level 1 are the recessive bits, and that the bits having the level 0 are the dominant bits.
- the pre-assignment of the bus with a potential representing a certain level takes place in the example considered using so-called pull-down resistors or pull-up resistors, which may be provided in the devices connected to the bus or elsewhere.
- the pre-assignment of the bus proves a potential representing a certain level Although advantageous, but is not a prerequisite for the applicability of the presently considered method.
- the bus BUS is designed in the example considered for a bitwise sequential transmission of data. However, there is no limit to this. The use of the method described below can also prove to be advantageous if the transmission is parallel or partially parallel (for example, byte by byte sequential).
- the said units in which the data to be transmitted are transmitted together with information needed or useful for the transmission and / or use of the data and / or other information are, for example, the frames or messages known from existing bus systems.
- the frames or messages used in the presently considered method have a different structure than conventional frames or messages.
- This frame or message comprises a synchronization field SYN, an identifier field ID, a control field CTRL, a data field DATA, an error detection field CRC, and a reply field REPLY.
- the corresponding settings in the devices connected to the bus are expediently carried out prior to the beginning of the transmission of the frame or the message containing the reply field, preferably already during the initialization of the same, for example after the system has been switched on. It proves to be advantageous if the settings can be changed during operation. This could be done, for example, by sent in corresponding frames or messages control commands. Making the setting by frames or messages sent over the bus can be used not only when changing the settings but also when re-setting the devices.
- the corresponding settings are preferably made in non-volatile, non-volatile, facilities Save saved. Then it may be sufficient if the settings are only made when the system is first used. In addition, it would also be easily (at least without repeated settings of the institutions concerned) possible that the facilities during operation of the system in the meantime go into an energy-saving mode (for example, a so-called sleep mode or a so-called power-down mode).
- an energy-saving mode for example, a so-called sleep mode or a so-called power-down mode.
- Which device at which time has which information to output to the bus can also be set permanently (for example by a corresponding hardware implementation of the devices concerned or using jumpers) in the devices.
- the settings can be uniform (for all facilities the same) or individual (different).
- the settings are made in the considered example so that it depends on the content of the current or a particular previous frame or the content of the current or a particular previous message, in particular by the specified therein receivers of the frame or the message, which device at what time which information has to be output on the bus. Thus, a frame- or message-specific use of the reply field takes place.
- the data representing the individual devices within the time slot defined by the reply field on the bus can be used and evaluated by any other means, not just by the entity sending the frame or message in question. In the case of a system constructed as in FIG. 1 or in a similar manner, it is always possible for all devices to track whether and, if appropriate, which data is transmitted via the bus.
- the device which sends the relevant frame or message receives a clear feedback as to whether the frame or the message has arrived without error at the device for which it is intended.
- the frame or message may not be resent, although the receiver for whom the frame or message is intended has received it without error ,
- the device which sends the relevant frame or message receives a clear acknowledgment as to whether the frame or the message has arrived without errors in all devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended.
- a transmission error has occurred, not determine which of the facilities has received the frame or the message is not correct, but this does not matter in general, because the frame or the message must indeed be retransmitted anyway.
- At least certain devices for which the respective frame or the respective message is not determined within the reply field acknowledge the error-free reception of the frame or the message or report back an incorrect reception.
- these responses are preferably made at a different time within the time slot defined by the reply field than the corresponding responses by the devices for which the frame or message is intended. If one or more of the devices for which the respective frame or the respective message is not intended to report an erroneous reception, this has indeed no influence on the transmission of the current frame or the message in question, but leaves it in particular for more frequent occurrence
- Conclusions on the transmission reliability in the system and can be taken as an opportunity to perform maintenance or repair work or to make changes in the system structure or in the system components.
- individual devices may also provide any other information on the bus during the time slot defined by the reply field (at certain times within it).
- Such information is, for example, information about the operating mode (normal operating mode, energy-saving operating mode, etc.) in which the device in question is currently located or any other information that might be of interest for one or more other devices.
- the devices when the data to be transferred over the bus are transmitted at a very high clock frequency, it can be provided that the devices are provided with a longer period of time within which they can be used Thus, for example, the devices may be provided with a period of time in which two or more bits can be transferred over the bus to output a bit to the bus. This can avoid errors resulting from the fact that a device due to problems with the synchronization with the common transmission clock fails to give the information to be output on the bus within a reserved clock period on the bus.
- frames or messages may also have a different structure than shown in FIG. In particular, they can have more, less and / or other content representing fields.

Description
The present invention relates to a method according to the preambles of claims 1 and 2 and an apparatus according to the preambles of claims 23 and 24.
Such methods and devices are known and require no further explanation.
A possible construction of a system in which several devices are connected via a bus is shown schematically in FIG. In this case, the devices to be connected are denoted by the reference symbols N1, N2,... Nn, and the bus connecting these devices is denoted by the reference symbol BUS.
In the system shown in FIG. 1, in principle, each of the devices N1, N2,... Nn can transmit data to any other device via the bus BUS.
One known problem with data transfers between devices interconnected by a bus is that the data transfer is to be very fast and efficient, but on the other hand it must be ensured that the data to be transmitted arrives without errors.
So far, it has not been possible to solve this problem to complete satisfaction: either the data transfer is very fast and is not safe under all circumstances, or the data transfer is very secure and does not take place so fast.
From US 5,293,571 methods according to the preambles of claims 1 and 2 and devices according to the preambles of claims 23 and 24 are known. Even with these methods and devices, the above-mentioned problem can not be solved to full satisfaction.
The present invention is therefore based on the object, the method according to the preamble of claims 1 and 2 and the devices according to the preambles of claims 23 and 24 such that they allow data transmission, on the one hand very fast and efficient, and in which On the other hand, it can be ensured that the data to be transmitted arrives without errors.
This object is achieved by the claimed in the claims 1 and 2 method and claimed in the claims 23 and 24 facilities.
- on the one hand, because due to the individual adjustability of the devices connected to the bus, reliable information can be obtained in all circumstances as to whether the devices for which the data to be transmitted are intended have received the data without error or not,
- on the other hand, because this information can be obtained immediately after the transmission of the data, that is, for example, still in the frame or in the message in which or to which the data to be transmitted are transmitted,
- on the other hand, because this information can be obtained later, if necessary, for example in a frame or in a message in which or other data is transmitted,
- further, because there is no need to request and / or transmit the information in one or more of your own frames or messages, or to provide exceptional situations that indicate certain states or events, such as the display of CAN bus transmission errors;
- Furthermore, because the information representing data can be sent due to the individual adjustability of the devices connected to the bus without additional information such as the indication of the recipient, the sender and / or the meaning of the data, and
- Finally, because the data representing the information due to the individual adjustability of the devices connected to the bus of these completely independently, ie without an impulse or an authorization by a bus allocation controlling device (without arbitration) can be issued.
Due to the claimed methods and the claimed devices, the transmission of data can be done in a surprisingly simple way at the same time extremely fast, efficient and secure.
In the same way, and just as easily, quickly, efficiently and reliably, any other information can be obtained from the devices connected to the bus.
Advantageous developments of the invention are the dependent claims, the following description and the figures removable.
- FIG. 1
- the basic structure of a system with connected via a bus facilities, and
- FIG. 2
- an embodiment of the format of a message or a frame, using which are transmitted in the method described below and in the device described below data.
The method described below is for transferring data between devices connected via a bus; The device described below is a device suitable for carrying out the method. A possible construction of the system in which the method and the device can be used is shown in FIG. 1 already described above. However, it should be noted at this point that there is no restriction on the construction shown in FIG. The system can also be structured differently.
By "bus" may be understood a non-connection-oriented communication connection, via which optically, electrically or otherwise data can be exchanged between devices connected to the bus.
In the example under consideration, each of the devices N1, N2, ... Nn connected to the bus BUS can become bus masters; It is a so-called multi-master bus system. However, there is no restriction on this. The use of the method described below also proves to be advantageous if only a single device or only a few of the existing devices can be bus master.
In the present case, the devices N1, N2, ... Nn connected to the bus BUS determine who is bus master. This is the same as with the CAN bus, taking into account the data transmitted via the bus; As long as a particular device finds the data it outputs on the bus, it can feel like a bus master. The use of the method described below, however, also proves to be advantageous in systems in which the bus master is determined differently, for example by a bus control device.
The bus BUS of the system under consideration is supplied by default with a potential representing level 0, and is "only" brought to a different potential when a bit having the level 1 is to be transmitted via the bus. The pre-assignment of the bus with a potential representing a certain level takes place in the example considered using so-called pull-down resistors or pull-up resistors, which may be provided in the devices connected to the bus or elsewhere. The pre-assignment of the bus proves a potential representing a certain level Although advantageous, but is not a prerequisite for the applicability of the presently considered method.
The bus BUS is designed in the example considered for a bitwise sequential transmission of data. However, there is no limit to this. The use of the method described below can also prove to be advantageous if the transmission is parallel or partially parallel (for example, byte by byte sequential).
- the data to be transmitted from a first device to one or more second devices, together with information required or useful for the transmission and / or use of the data, is transmitted in units which at least partially comprise at least one region defining a time slot within of which the data-transmitting devices can output certain information representing data on the bus, and that in the devices that may have to output data within said time slot, is set under what conditions within the time slot to output data, and / or what information representing data within the time slot, and / or at which times within the time slot the data is to be output, and / or
- the data to be transmitted from a first device to one or more second devices, together with information required or useful for the transmission and / or use of the data, is transmitted in units which at least partially comprise at least one region defining a time slot within of which the non-data transmitting devices can output certain information representing data on the bus and that at least in certain devices is set which other devices within the time slot to output data and / or output data representing information within the time slot of the other devices are, and / or at what times within the time slot, the other institutions have to output the respective data.
- that it is constructed in such a way that the transmission of the data to be transmitted, together with information required or useful for the transmission and / or use of the data, can take place in units at least partially comprising at least one region defining a time slot within which the Device can output certain information representing data on the bus, and that is set in the device, under which conditions it has to output data within the time slot, and / or which information representing data has to spend within the time slot, and / or at what times within the timeslot the data are to be output, and / or
- that it is constructed in such a way that the transmission of the data to be transmitted, together with information required or useful for the transmission and / or use of the data, can take place in units which at least partially comprise at least one region defining a time slot within which one or several other devices can output certain information representing data on the bus, and that in the device it is set which other devices within the time slot have data to output, and / or which information representing data within the time slot to be output from the other devices, and / or at which times within the time slot the other devices have to output the respective data.
The said units in which the data to be transmitted are transmitted together with information needed or useful for the transmission and / or use of the data and / or other information are, for example, the frames or messages known from existing bus systems. However, the frames or messages used in the presently considered method have a different structure than conventional frames or messages.
An example of the structure of a frame or message used in the presently considered method is shown in FIG.
- The sync field SYN contains a particular bit or string of bits by the one or the other Facilities the beginning of a frame or a message is displayed,
- the identifier field ID contains one or more bits which specify the type, content and / or receiver of the relevant frame or message,
- the control field CTRL contains one or more bits indicating the length of the data field,
- the data field DATA contains the data or message that is actually to be transmitted, and
- The error detection field CRC contains one or more bits, on the basis of which transmission errors can be detected and / or corrected.
The reply field REPLY is not or at least partially filled with data by the device sending the frame or the message. This field thus defines a time slot in which the devices which are not bus masters can or must output data to the bus. Depending on the length of the time slot defined by the reply field, one or more bits may be transmitted in the bus over the bus.
- the message of one or more of the devices connected to the bus, that this is the frame or the message of which the reply field is part (or possibly also a previously transmitted frame or a previously transmitted message or data contained therein) error-free has received or have and / or
- the message of one or more of the devices connected to the bus that this is the frame or the message of which the reply field is part (or possibly also a previously transmitted frame or a previously transmitted message or data contained therein), has not received error free or have and / or
- Information of one or more of the devices connected to the bus on their states (for example, the mode in which they are located, the load, the temperature, etc.).
Which device at which time has which information to output to the bus is preferably set in the institutions themselves. Thereby, the respective devices can independently, i. without initiation or authorization by a bus-routing or other device, which outputs data to be output by them on the bus at the right time on the bus.
The corresponding settings in the devices connected to the bus are expediently carried out prior to the beginning of the transmission of the frame or the message containing the reply field, preferably already during the initialization of the same, for example after the system has been switched on. It proves to be advantageous if the settings can be changed during operation. This could be done, for example, by sent in corresponding frames or messages control commands. Making the setting by frames or messages sent over the bus can be used not only when changing the settings but also when re-setting the devices.
The corresponding settings are preferably made in non-volatile, non-volatile, facilities Save saved.
Which device at which time has which information to output to the bus can also be set permanently (for example by a corresponding hardware implementation of the devices concerned or using jumpers) in the devices.
The settings can be uniform (for all facilities the same) or individual (different).
The settings are made in the considered example so that it depends on the content of the current or a particular previous frame or the content of the current or a particular previous message, in particular by the specified therein receivers of the frame or the message, which device at what time which information has to be output on the bus. Thus, a frame- or message-specific use of the reply field takes place.
The length of the reply field (the length of the time slot defined thereby) is not limited and preferably variable; it is expediently in each case exactly as long as is necessary in order to be able to transmit the information required or desired at that time via the bus.
The data representing the individual devices within the time slot defined by the reply field on the bus can be used and evaluated by any other means, not just by the entity sending the frame or message in question. In the case of a system constructed as in FIG. 1 or in a similar manner, it is always possible for all devices to track whether and, if appropriate, which data is transmitted via the bus.
- because it is not necessary that the information given in the reply field on the bus be requested in a separate frame or message and / or sent to the devices requiring that information,
- because by the selectability of the devices to respond, only those devices will output information from which information is required,
- because by the selectability of the information that the selected devices are to give on the bus in the time slot defined by the reply field, only the information that is actually required is transmitted, and
- because by the selectability of the time points within the time slot defined by the reply field, to which the selected devices give the selected information on the bus, can be determined beyond doubt which information is concerned and which information comes from which institution or group of institutions.
Some of the advantages that can be achieved by such a data transmission method and by such devices are explained below with reference to a few selected examples.
- in that the device for which the relevant frame or message is intended is set to be within the time slot defined by the reply field or at a specific time within the time slot defined by the reply field in the example under consideration outputs a positive acknowledge bit formed by a dominant bit to the bus if it has received the frame or message error-free by then, and does not output a positive acknowledge bit (no dominant bit) if the opposite is true, and
- in that the devices for which the relevant frame or message is not determined are set to provide error-free reception at least at the time when the device for which the frame or message in question is intended of the frame or the message can be acknowledged by the output of a positive acknowledge bit, no data output to the bus, and no information about whether they have received the frame or message until then without errors or not.
As a result, the device which sends the relevant frame or message receives a clear feedback as to whether the frame or the message has arrived without error at the device for which it is intended. Thus, unlike the CAN bus, for example, the frame or message may not be resent, although the receiver for whom the frame or message is intended has received it without error ,
- in that the devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended are set to output a positive acknowledge bit to the bus at different times within the timeslot defined by the reply field when they receive the frame or have received the message without error until then, and do not issue a positive acknowledge bit if the opposite is the case, and
- the devices for which the relevant frame or message is not determined are set to provide error-free reception at least at those times when the devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended the frame or the message by the output of a positive acknowledge bit to acknowledge, no data output to the bus, no information on whether they have received the frame or the message until then without errors or not.
- if the devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended are set to be one within the time slot defined by the reply field or at a particular time within the time slot defined by the reply field output a negative acknowledge bit formed by a dominant bit on the bus if they have not received the frame or message by then, and do not output a negative acknowledge bit (if not the opposite), and
- the devices for which the relevant frame or message is not determined are set to be non-error-free at least at the point in time at which the devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended Receive the frame or message by the output of a negative acknowledge bit to report, do not output data to the bus, and no information about whether they have received the frame or message until then without errors or not.
As a result of this, the device which sends the relevant frame or message receives a clear acknowledgment as to whether the frame or the message has arrived without errors in all devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended. Although it can be here, if a transmission error has occurred, not determine which of the facilities has received the frame or the message is not correct, but this does not matter in general, because the frame or the message must indeed be retransmitted anyway.
In cases where it is required that certain or all of the devices for which the frame or message in question is intended begin synchronously (simultaneously or at certain intervals) with the further processing of the data contained therein, it may be provided that that not only the device sending the frame or the message, but also the devices for which the relevant frame or message is intended to monitor the data transmitted in the reply field via the bus, and that with the further processing of the or data contained in the message in question is only commenced when the data transmitted in the reply field via the bus indicates that the devices to be operated synchronously received the frame or the message without error.
It may also prove advantageous if in addition at least certain devices for which the respective frame or the respective message is not determined within the reply field acknowledge the error-free reception of the frame or the message or report back an incorrect reception. However, these responses are preferably made at a different time within the time slot defined by the reply field than the corresponding responses by the devices for which the frame or message is intended. If one or more of the devices for which the respective frame or the respective message is not intended to report an erroneous reception, this has indeed no influence on the transmission of the current frame or the message in question, but leaves it in particular for more frequent occurrence Conclusions on the transmission reliability in the system and can be taken as an opportunity to perform maintenance or repair work or to make changes in the system structure or in the system components.
It may also prove advantageous if individual, multiple or all of the devices connected to the bus are set to output a dominant bit on the bus at different times within the time slot defined by the reply field, if the frame or until then received the message without errors, and - output a dominant bit at different time points within the time slot defined by the reply field, if the opposite is the case. This opens up the possibility of checking whether the institutions in question are still working properly or, for whatever reason, failing. It can be assumed that the individual institutions are still working properly if they report either a faultless reception or a faulty reception; If one of the devices does not signal either a faultless reception or a reception error, or both a faultless reception and a reception error, this is an indication that the facility concerned is no longer working properly.
It will be appreciated that individual devices, some or all of the devices connected to the bus, including the device sending a frame, may also provide any other information on the bus during the time slot defined by the reply field (at certain times within it). Such information is, for example, information about the operating mode (normal operating mode, energy-saving operating mode, etc.) in which the device in question is currently located or any other information that might be of interest for one or more other devices.
In particular, when the data to be transferred over the bus are transmitted at a very high clock frequency, it can be provided that the devices are provided with a longer period of time within which they can be used Thus, for example, the devices may be provided with a period of time in which two or more bits can be transferred over the bus to output a bit to the bus. This can avoid errors resulting from the fact that a device due to problems with the synchronization with the common transmission clock fails to give the information to be output on the bus within a reserved clock period on the bus.
It will be seen from the foregoing discussion that the described method of transferring data between devices connected via a bus makes it possible to transfer data to be transmitted quickly, with maximum efficiency, and yet with absolute certainty.
It will be clear that the frames or messages may also have a different structure than shown in FIG. In particular, they can have more, less and / or other content representing fields.

characterized in that the data to be output onto the bus (BUS) during the time slot comprises a positive acknowledge bit which indicates that the device outputting the acknowledge bit onto the bus has previously received in a fault-free condition data transmitted via the bus. - Device according to Claim 35, characterized in that the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that exclusively devices for which the data transmitted via the bus are intended acknowledge the fault-free reception of the data by outputting a positive acknowledge bit onto the bus.
- Device according to Claim 35 or 36, characterized in that if a plurality of the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that they have to acknowledge the fault-free reception of the data by outputting a positive acknowledge bit, this plurality of devices is set in such a way that the positive acknowledge bits which are to be output if appropriate are output by said plurality of devices at different points in time.
- Device according to Claim 36 or 37, characterized in that the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that the devices for which the data which is transmitted via the bus is not intended do not output any data onto the bus at least at the points in time at which the devices for which the data which is transmitted via the bus is intended must be able to acknowledge the fault-free reception of the data.
- Device according to one of Claims 23 to 38,
characterized in that the data to be output onto the bus (BUS) during the time slot comprises a negative acknowledge bit which indicates that the device outputting the negative acknowledge bit onto the bus has previously not received in a fault-free condition data transmitted via the bus. - Device according to Claim 39, wherein the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that exclusively devices for which the data which is transmitted via the bus is intended signal the non-fault-free reception of the data by outputting a negative acknowledge bit onto the bus.
- Device according to Claim 39 or 40, characterized in that if a plurality of the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that they have to signal the non-fault-free reception of the data by outputting a negative acknowledge bit, at least some of this plurality of devices are set in such a way that they output at the same time the negative acknowledge bits which are to be output if appropriate.
- Device according to one of Claims 39 to 41,
characterized in that the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that the devices for which the data transmitted via the bus is not intended do not output any data onto the bus at least at the points in time at which the devices for which the data transmitted via the bus is intended must be able to signal the non-fault-free reception of the data. - Device according to one of Claims 23 to 42,
characterized in that the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that individual devices, a plurality of devices, or all the devices which are connected to the bus output a positive acknowledge bit onto the bus at different points in time within the time slot if said devices have received in a fault-free condition data previously transmitted via the bus, or they output a negative acknowledge bit if the opposite is the case, in each case at other, different points in time within the time slot. - Device according to one of Claims 23 to 43,
characterized in that the devices (Nl-Nn) which are connected to the bus (BUS) are set in such a way that the content of the current frame or of a specific preceding frame or the content of the current message or of a specific preceding message determines which devices has to output which information onto the bus at which point in time.
